Has anyone installed the updated synaptics driver on 1645 ?
Some people on other forum say that pinch zoom is gone after installing the updated driver![]()

Pinch zoom working fine in the package I posted.

Ok, gaah. There also appears to be a relatively new (04/12/2010) Dell System Software under the "System Utilities" Tab and it's marked as urgent. In my years of using a Dell, I've never heard of this nor updated it before. I believe someone might have asked this before, but, if you know, can you tell me what exactly this thing is and does? And also do I have to update it since it says urgent (I usually update urgent-marked stuff, but my lack of knowledge about this one makes me wonder about it in particular)?

I would install the System Software update if you haven't yet, it contains several Windows 7 hotfixes that AREN'T posted on Microsoft/Windows Update. Here's some of what's included in the latest System Software:
USB devices that are connected to a computer may not work after the computer is idle for more than one hour Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
You receive various Stop error messages in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2 when you try to resume a computer that has a large SATA hard disk
A computer may enter sleep or hibernation before the CD or DVD burning process is complete in Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2
An update is available for the UDF file system driver (Udfs.sys) for Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2
Stop error when you put a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to sleep or into hibernation, or when you restart the computer: "0x9F"
Error message during stress tests on a computer that is running Windows 7 if Driver Verifier is enabled: "Stop 0x00000050"
The computer stops responding when an USB device resumes from the USB Selective Suspend state in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
Most of these are fairly recent, so even if you're using the factory installed Windows 7, I'd install this to make sure you get 'em installed. -
How would one go about determining which chipset drivers are installed, my device manager says for Intel(R) PM55 Express Chipset LPC Interface controller driver version 6.1.7600.16385 dated 21/06/2006. Whereas page 1 of this thread lists driver 9.1.1.1025.
I guess I'm looking in the wrong place? -
The chipset driver is odd in that it doesn't update the components if a version is already installed, unless required to, on my system it only updated the USB driver and that was it.

Basically what you do is C:\{Wherever your file is}\setup.exe -overall . you could type it in address bar, cmd.
-
The -overall switch is unnecessary, because there's no drivers for those components other than description info/etc. For all those components it updates, it really just changes the file it uses to reference to get the name of the device/etc. That's about it. But it does also cause Windows to re-detect the hardware and that might cause problems if it does anything. It's not worth doing.
-
-
If you haven't installed anything yet, just run it normally. Don't bother with the -overall option because it's not necessary, it will update what requires updating on it's own. The only real need to use the -overall option is if something was corrupt or not working right and you wanted to force the reinstall of the chipset drivers again.

after installing ati drivers (from ati) and the hdmi driver (from realtek) i am unable to use the hdmi port. anyone else notice that problem?
update: hdmi does work if i reboot the laptop with hdmi cable plugged in.
now if can just figure out why the IDT auto control panel shows hdmi unplugged for hdmi audio. -
Okay, I don't use HDMI personally, but here's some options you can try. First, uninstall the Realtek HDMI driver. Since you're using ATI's Mobility driver, which doesn't include the HDMI driver, I recommend trying the HDMI driver from ATI's desktop release. Just download the regular CATALYST desktop release and it will install the HDMI driver that is compatible with the Mobility cards. Also, update the IDT driver to the one in this topic.
AND/OR
Instead of using the drivers from ATI and Realtek, get the latest Dell Radeon driver from this topic because it includes its' own Dekk customized HDMI driver. Then make sure to grab the latest IDT driver.
Hope this helps. -
I have started getting "Cannot start Bluetooth stack service" error after updating the bios to A09.
Also, the blutooth link has disappeared from SendTo menu.
I am having 6.2.0.9000 version of driver for Dell Wireless 370 card.
Any solutions ? -
^^ I too face exactly the same bluetooth issues. Solutions awaited.
-
There is some change in A09 BIOS regarding the wireless switch (and maybe more specifically to either Bluetooth or the different adapters).. maybe your problem is related? For me, the bluetooth chip wouldn't turn on when I hit the wireless switch, and the WiFi LED indicator is different now in that it only lights up solid if you're connected to a network, otherwise is just blinks... I had to fuss around with the BIOS wireless button settings and also in Windows by using the bluetooth control panel to enable Bluetooth by itself.
If I were you guys, I'd make sure the BIOS wireless button is still set to control all three wireless devices, reinstall the latest Bluetooth stack from this thread (version 6.3.x something), and check the Windows bluetooth control panel and make sure "turn off bluetooth adapter" checkbox is cleared. -
Can someone share what are the changes in QuickSet64 ??? why is dell releasing updates for that program... every version looks exactly the same as the previous one. Besides that the program still steals the focus, and this is really annoying... specially when typing text.
-
-
As it is not... I will most likely just remove it completely -
But, if you don't use the CD/DVD drive much, meh, not a big loss.

I also had a lot of problems with bluetooth on my 1645. Try installing the drivers listed for 1647 (6.2.0.9603, A02-1). They are newer version and work great for me.

Anyone using the new Synaptics driver from Dell? It is dated 6-16....?
-
-
-
I originally got those multitouch features from the driver listed in this thread. -
Thanks, gpig.
-
BIOS A10 on Dell Driver page but the file isn't there.
-
Whoah, what the heck. Are there any update notes? Excited!
-
haven't looked for the notes but here's the BIOS A10 update!!!!
ftp://ftp.dell.com/bios/R272436.exe
gunna install and update the download links in the first post in a bit. there's also been new releases of ATI Radeon drivers, SetPoint for Logitech input devices, new Dell touchpad driver, DirectX June 2010, etc. Still looking for others. -
A10 has no changes to the setup display, all options the same/etc. Graphics BIOS has been updated yet again since A09. Maybe the throttling problem has FINALLY been fixed? I expect a full analyse of the overall performance and throttling problems with this new BIOS.
-
I updated to A10 without hesitation because this laptop will be replaced soon. Gonna check if it throttles while I play a quick demo game. Be right back!
-
bios a10 description from Dell:

1.2 It will skip to flash un-used ME block during WIN-FLASH.
2. Enhanced SMBIOS structure for processor core count.
*Issues fix:
1. system will BSOD show 9F after running S4 stress about 10-300 cycles. -
first post is up to date as usual. PM me if you have suggestions for other links.
6/24/2010: Added 1645 BIOS A10
...Synaptic Touchpad driver 15.0.18.0
...DirectX June 1020
...Logitech SetPoint 6.10
...ATI Mobility Radeon 3670/4670/5730 CATALYST 10.6 -
Umm... is it just me or am I not throttling anymore on battery?
When I unplug from adapter I see no performance drop. Maybe 1 or 2 fps at most.
(I only updated to A10 so far)
******BAH I WAS FOOLED!!
Did nothing for memy bad.
Didn't mean to build you up buttercups. -
1647 BIOS also updated, noticed it oon the FTP anyway . if the link isn't up on Dell's site yet download you can find it on ftp.dell.com/bios/R272437.exe .
-
Just installed...testing games as we speak
-
Doing the same as well. I got better results when I tested FurMark though. Still had a bit of stuttering, but was slightly better. Also, on a somewhat unrelated note, does anyone know where I could download throttle stop?
-
Latest throttlestop version I can find: http://forum.notebookreview.com/har...unlock-core-2-extreme-multiplier-windows.html
-
Well they didn't fix jack...BC2 still runs like crap after a few mins. I got my hopes up by playing Crysis Warhead first, and even though that game didn't see framerate drops below 20...the fps was still all over the place when it shouldn't have been so I figured something was up. BC2 probably makes the throttling more obvious because it uses more cpu power (one of the few games optimized for multiple cores). Well I just wasted an hour...
-
Same here board
I thought it might have been better at first, but it just takes a bit longer for the the system to start throttling. ><
-
I am going to call tomorrow and see if they know when I can get an i5 coupled with a 5730.
-
Is the thermal limit at 84C still lifted as it was in A09 (meaning no thermal limit still)? I just hope they didn't put it back or something. Can anyone please answer me that question before I go ahead with installing A10?
-
That would be good to know.
