Any idea whether we should go ahead with the update as i am actually still in A09 BIOS as thats the one that has minimum THROTTLING off all the versions till A11. Any updates regarding who A12 handles throttling?
-
. It looks like A09 is going to be the one to keep for the lifespan of the 4670 (for the majority of 4670 users, at least).

How do we actually downgrade a BIOS (from A12 back to A09)?
-
this is the WinPhlash64 directory and contains the same flash package as included in 1645_A09.EXE BIOS update. The difference is it's not configured to automatically flash, and will open the full GUI of the program. By default it should also have the ability to over-write newer BIOSes, but if not double check the settings on the Advanced Settings tab (uncheck the option to only install if newer). Should look something like the attached screenshot:Attached Files:

Intel Rapid Storage Technology Version 10.0.0.1046 WHQL

It's worth pointing out that i've used station-drivers as a source for drivers for quite a number of systems i've worked on, and not had a problem (over the course of several years) - the drivers they release are given to OEMs by the hardware manufacturers and not intended for a wider release (sometimes they are incorporating new features that an OEM requests, but that aren't applicable to all users)
However as they are newer builds, sometimes there are hotfixes, etc. that do affect all users. I would say they are "safe" but not worth using unless there's a specific problem you're trying to address (or possibly a performance issue) - or in my case you just like poking things with a stick to see what happens
BTW, the download link is at the very bottom of that post, http://www.station-drivers.com/page/intel raid.htm
Judging from the screenshots and the text of the post, those drivers are also WHQL certified, so have been tested and signed by Microsoft, and thus should work just fine (WHQL = Windows Hardware Quality Labs) -
The only thing I don't recommend are the beta/alpha builds and builds that were modified by the community to be compatible with extra devices, because sometimes those builds are the kind that are specially built for specific conditions or hardware, and aren't always as stable or full featured as the WHQL-certified counterparts.
To reiterate, if a driver is properly WHQL certified and it detects and properly installs for your hardware, then it contains all the necessary hardware and vendor IDs and was fully tested to be compatible by the manufacture who submitted the driver to Microsoft, and Microsoft who tested and certified the driver. -
I'm not saying that they're unsafe or anything, just that I didn't think that there would be any improvements for our hardware, though I could very well be wrong. Thank you though for the detailed explanation. Why doesn't Intel release them on their website, when the improvements/bug fixes could benefit everyone??
-
Usually those releases are for a specific OEM that requests a feature/bugfix that is unique to their hardware design (for example, there may be an optional component that isn't contained in the reference chipset, but OEM X opted to put that component in their design, then later discovered a problem specific to that component, reported it upstream, upstream made a fix and passed it down to OEM)
However, there might be other bugfixes that the hardware manufacturer incidentally incorporated into that release, intended for a future, wider release of the driver.
Sometimes the OEM will release these drivers on it's own support page (this is why sometimes you'll find newer drivers, for say, nvidia cards posted up on guru3d.com forums, with a note that they came from the dell support site, or hp support site, etc) - other times the OEM will only distribute them to users that have specifically contacted tech support regarding the issue they fix. -
Ok I recently installed the IDT 6.10.0.6289 audio drivers, however I have a little issue. When I listen to music using my headphones and switch between the first headphone jack (the one farthest from the microphone jack) and the second headphone jack (the one closest to the microphone jack) I get different audio quality. The first headphone jack has a much fuller and better sound than the flat quality I'm getting from the second headphone jack. Please, can anyone test and see if they can hear a difference in audio quality between their headphone jacks? Or maybe its just me and I should revert back to the 6.10.0.6272 drivers and try those? I just want to see if its these drivers (6289) or my hardware that have the problem.
**I was previously on the 6272, but I can't remember if I experienced the same issue.
EDIT- Try more base heavy music -
Hi EDU, what is probably going on is that the "audio enhancements" are on for the first headphone jack, but not the second. If you go to the IDT Audio Control Panel (should be able to find it somewhere under the Windows Control Panel, I have another thread about this somewhere), and poke around in the settings there and look for the enhancements.
*edit: sorry I can't be more specific, I'm not at my 1645 at the moment... -
). When the "Headphones" selection was green, it sounded fuller and with more bass coming through. Thanks for pointing out my stupidity. I think I just wanted to believe I was having some hardware issue...

seeker_moc,
did you just run the EXE installer and let it install/update over your older driver, or did you completely uninstall your previous driver and then install 10.10 fresh? -
I just ran the .exe, and it worked.
-
ive always had problems with the C++ 2005 packages, so i often have to manually run the setup.exe file.
thanks anyways! -
-
indeed i tried that before, but with mixed results.
soon as i learned about the "-uninstall" and "-install" console commands, i stuck with it. never failed me thus far. -
I downloaded the latest Bluetooth-Driver / Software from the list on page 1 and it destroyed my system-partition. So far I don't know if its really related to the driver but it began after a error-message during the installation.
The installer mentioned that the previous changes are now undone. The progress bar stands still so I killed the process after 20-25min.
After the reboot I checked the C: partition and several folders were deleted. About 200 GB of data are gone now and the system doesn't boot any more.
Again, I'm not 100% sure if this is related to the Driver/Software or something else. -
It happened to me too, it's not a problem of the installer, it's problem with UNinstaller of the old drivers...
-
I tried recovering it but failed. I had to reformat the the entire thing. -
The WIDCOMM driver linked on page1 is stale/outdated...you should try updating to v6.3.0.6900.... -
-
Can you post a link for the newest driver/software? -
Dell Wireless 375 driver backwards compatible with Dell Wireless 370, ect. -
Dell Wireless 370 driver version 6.3.5.430 comes in Microsoft/Windows Update, I think that's the most current version.
Also, the synaptics touchpad driver for the new XPS 15 on the Dell website is a newer version than listed on page one, works with the SXPS 16, and doesn't have any problem with multi-touch like the current Dell driver sometimes does. -
hey guys, I don't have my XPS 1645 anymore and won't be keeping track of this anymore - someone might want to start a new thread if they want to keep this going.
-
Whats the next system for you gaah???
Maybe I will start a new thread with your and newer contents? -
-
-
Can't someone take ownership of this thread????
-
I updated the first post already with the direct link, if there's any files it doesn't have that I did, I will track it down upon request.
-
Gah, I'm having problems with A09 on my XPS 1645.
I updated to A12, but that seemed to decrease my system's performance, so I downgraded to A09, which was a great improvement except for the fact that any game I play becomes completely unplayable after a few minutes (on the verge of locking up). I checked my temperatures with GPU-Z and RealTemp, and nothing is overheating. Grr...any ideas? -
could be your CPU throttling? give ThrottleStop a try, see what your CPU multipliers are when you game.

LOOOL, sorry got it now. Not that I needed a whole 'nother post to say this.
