Does anyone have problems with the Intel 5300 AGN network adapter dropping connections? I changed all pertinent settings on the adapter (and have the latest drivers and had the same problem with previous drivers) and with some routers it works just fine (D-Link, Sprint Overdrive, etc.) and with others there are massive problems (Belkin N+ especially, Linksys, etc.). The main router I use is a Belkin N+ (along with my Sprint Overdrive which I never had any problems with) and none of the other 4+ computers have problems with the Belkin router. I have been hunting around and have found the problems but not solutions. Does anyone think that Dell might switch out the adapter for an upgrade like to the Intel 6300 Ultimate-N? Thanks.

    Hi All,
Been a while since I posted, but I always follow this thread, much appreciated!
I recently encountered a problem and it may be related to the system software update. While attempting to use the system backup option, it failed. I got a message to run the check disc utility, when I did, it did find a problem and fixed it and from the description I think it was caused by the update. I'm no expert, thats why I read these forums, but may I suggest people try a system backup and/or run chk disc to be sure you don't have the same problem. Note that I use custom settings for my backup so you may just want to run check disc & see if it finds any problems. Again, in my case, this did fix the problem.

Here's what check disc said it fixed (i.e., something like "bad sector ##, replaced") followed by this description:

    Windows\System32\catroot\{F75)E~1\Microsoft-Windows-Foundation-Package~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~6.1.7600.16385.cat

The only other thing I did that may have caused this was install ffdshow, which I later uninstalled. Just thought I'd give a heads up to everyone.

Also, anyone know what this number: 6.1.7600.16385 may be associated with?

6.1.xxx is the Windows version number for Windows 7. A bad sector recovered by chkdsk has nothing to do with software, it is a physical error with that sector on your hard drive. amd64 just means x86-64, or 64-bit windows.

Edit: Also, that's not really a driver question.

Thanx for the update, Rep++ :)

I dont have any problems using this card with Netgear Wireless N 150 router. I suggest you contact dell tech support. If a driver reinstall doesnt help do a diagnostics on it from F12 to check if its functioning properly.

Dell Wireless 1397/1510/1520/1501 are cards I havnt seen a lot of people using. If someone has updated drivers link I will post them for you :)

Yeah, diagnostics have been done and clean install of drivers and on and on. I have changed almost every setting on the router and adapter but to no avail. I even took off the bottom of the laptop to see if all of the antennas were connected correctly and they appear to be. Dell is replacing it with a 1520 and refused to get me a 6300 but I may buy one on my own (for only around $30, thanks, Dell). It is awful and makes the network and the Internet unusable most of the time but at least, I have my Sprint Overdrive. Hopefully, this will get straightened out soon. Thanks.

I called them up and now they are bringing another 5300. If that doesn't work, I am going to pop a 6300 in and try that out.

bad sector is caused by a hardware problem, usually a part of the hard disk is damaged or failing. Once you beginning to run into problems like that, you're losing storage and physical areas on the hard drive, you should contact the manufacture and get it replaced if it's still under warranty.

    To Gaah & Seeker,
Thanks for your responses. Once again, I've learned something. Gaah, I ran a test on the hard drive and got a "fail" and a message to backup everything and replace it immediately because failure is imminent. I am under warranty and Dell is shipping me a new one which should arrive today. I started another thread looking for advise on the install, I really want to restore my computer to exactly how it is now (drivers, updates, software, personalization, etc.), I think, from what I've read over the last 24 hours, that Windows 7 system image will do this. I'm a little concerned because the new hard drive will have windows already installede as well as some other software, possibly some drivers & the newest bios. I want A09 bios. I'm hoping I can do a restore with these thing already installed & still get to my current settings. We'll see, nobody responded to my other thread asking foir advise. Thanks again to all the expert posters for all you do to help people like me educate myself and maximize my computing experience!

For some people, I suggest they use the original Dell 370 Bluetooth Drivers from here:
    Drivers and Downloads

This is for users who have repeated unexplained crashes of certain programs. A few months ago, I updated the Bluetooth drivers to newer ones that worked for other people but found that it would crash certain applications. In particular, I have Microsoft Office 2003 installed on my system (I know, I know-I am too cheap and don't use it enough to buy Office 2010 or whatever is out now) and when I installed the drivers for the Dell 375 currently in the initial post on this thread (exactly what happened with the previous drivers), they crashed Word, Excel, etc. When I re-installed the original drivers from above, the application crashing goes away. This issue (very similar) is also outlined here:

    Office 2003 crashes w/ Windows 7 x64

Yeah, it very well might be because I found there are a decent number of apps that this problem has impacted and if it effects Office 2003 then it easily could effect 2010. Please let us know if there is a difference.

i am unable to uninstall and install the driver you pointed out, rnbaker.

after uninstalling the Bluetooth module driver in Safe Mode (via Device Manager), running the Dell driver installer gives me an error "A later version of 'Bluetooth Software' is already installed on this machine. The setup cannot continue" and now I cannot install/uninstall any Bluetooth drivers.

as I only use Bluetooth to sync my phone, i'm in no real hurry to fix this driver issue. however i would really appreciate if anybody knows hot to get out of this dumb little cycle of the installer claiming that i already have a newer software version for a piece of software i've already removed!

Sorry, I have no idea what is exactly causing this but I didn't do it in safe mode and didn't uninstall in Device Manager. Have you tried to install in normal mode? All I did was uninstall when in normal mode (no reboot) and reinstall and then I think it prompted me for a reboot. I think that installing (and maybe sometimes uninstalling) in safe mode can cause complications or at least, that is the way it used to be in previous versions of windows. Here's what I would do-just uninstall through "Programs and Features" and install in normal mode. Also, the item in "Programs and Features" should be "Widcomm Bluetooth Software" or something like that. If that doesn't work, restore the system to the point just previous of the "Safe Mode" uninstall and then uninstall and reinstall like I explained. Good luck.

i did originally uninstall via Programs and Features (the WIDCOMM Bluetooth stack), except that it failed to uninstall properly. it claimed that it was uninstalled, but when i checked my Device Manager, all the "Devices" were still there. Even going to check the driver version showed that it was still 6.3.xxx. That's why I went into Safe Mode. I've never had problems with Safe Mode installs/uninstalls until this time around.

i'll give a restoration a go next. i'll wait until the weekend though, i need my machine for work until then.

i was finally able to uninstall the WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software. it occured to me that I could install a newer version of the driver/software! so that's what i did: went to Dell support and downloaded the newer 6.4 (i think) driver. after that, was able to properly uninstall the WIDCOMM. my previous install must have been corrupted somehow?

anyways, i was able to successfully install driver 6.2.0.xxx. i will let you know of my Outlook crashes later. i'll only really know after a couple days.

Gald it helped our great mod ;)

I sure dont have any issue with the card and if it happens again ask them to upgrade, why should u spend because of a faulty product they provided.

I agree these cards work, my old replacement had a 1520 card. Btw got an updated driver by a member so will link it.

Thanx for the update but I havnt had any issue with the bluetooth yet. I am using office 2010. Btw with this driver I had serious A2DP issue in the past pairing Dell Bluetooth Stereo Headset and the updated driver in SXPS 1647 page helped me resolve it.

Thanx for the updated driver, Linked :)

well luck had nothing to do with it. unfortunately i've had 4 Outlook crashes since Thursday evening. that number coincides with the average of 2 Outlook crashes per day. looks like the driver wasn't the solution, but thanks for the suggestion anyways!

He gave a right point, Maybe it can be installed via device manager or try this driver, it says for half minicard.

Edit: Sorry its the same driver :(

Edit again : the driver should work coz if you see the SXPS 16 driver support page, 1397 card says half mini card.

Glad you got it installed finally...went and threw my older WLAN in just to confirm it is supported 100%!

Looks like there are a couple of newer Dell Wireless adapters included for this release like the 1503, 1530 & 1701

Dell Wireless naming conventions have indicated the band capabilities of the WLAN:

    Dell Wireless 13 xx = 802.11b/g
    Dell Wireless 14 xx = 802.11a/b/g
    Dell Wireless 15 xx = 802.11a/b/g/n

I'm having trouble figuring out the capabilities of the newer Dell Wireless 1701 WLAN listed in the .inf short of it supporting 802.11b/g/n and not 5GHz 802.11a...anyone have any info!?

There are new Catalyst drivers out (10.12). Graphics Drivers & Software

*edit: I have installed them without issue so far.

*edit 2: no release notes thus far. (link is broken on amd's website)

I tested them out, and got the exact same 3DMark11 score as with 10.11, so there's no performance improvement, though there's nothing wrong with them either.

I think what bipul_fx is referring to is that on the main AMD graphics driver page, you can download a new beta/test version of the CCC, which is supposed to be new and improved. As always, the drivers themselves won't offer much improvement or change, but new features are always welcome.

Installed 10.12, even the CCC stays the same. Nothing significant noticeable yet atm.
