Are you talking about the driver you downloaded from smartsource.dell.com?? Try that.

Follow the guide for ati driver installation on the first page. Do a clean installation. It is very important to restart the computer after the installation.

Guys personlly i havnt had this issue even once on any ati driver releases.

The best i can suggest now is, uninstall ati driver from programs and features. Download latest driver sweeper from its official site and install it. Restart the computer in safe mode. Run driver sweeper and remove all ati components. Restart the computer and try installing the latest driver and restart the computer before running ccc. Hope it helps.

What is the best audio driver for 1645? I heard people have had problems with the IDT driver in the past and said windows on driver is better. Is this the case? Also should I install soundblaster X-Fi MB? Right now I have the IDT driver in this thread and I'm listening to the speakers and the sound becomes extremely muffled and distorted even at 50% volume. One of the audio jacks doesn't even work and the while headphones and external speakers make it sound a little better, its still awful. Not sure if its a driver issue, speakers, or soundcard.

My speakers work fine now with a combination of steps.

First: Remove the old driver, restart and install the one on this thread.

Second: Install Creative Sound Blaster. It works ;) and restart again.

Now there are 2 situations you can be, One is that the SRS Premium gets disabled automatically after the install of Creative in IDT Audio CP or it doesnt.

If it doesnt, Disable it first then go to regedit.

Go to the location HKLM/Software/IDT/APO/LFX/Speaker1/Plugins/SRS. Click SRS and on the right panel double-click load and make it from 1 to 0. Now SRS Premium will not be loaded at all even after a restart.

This is what works for me :)

Hey folks, I'm having the same issue not being able to get into the Catalyst Control Center after having installed 10.12 off AMD's website. I've been looking around the ATI forums, and it seems like lots of people have had similar issues for a while now (some posts date back to 2008), but everybody suggests a different solution...

Has anybody had any luck getting their CCC to start correctly?

I have it installed correctly. I used Windows Installer Cleanup Utility to uninstall all previous CCC components and then I installed 10.12.

    worked for me, installed yesterday...

    I do the standard way:

    1. Uninstalled previous ATI version with that version's Setup - Use Custom Option for Uninstall, unchecked (kept) HDMI Audio Driver.
    2. Reboot into Safe Mode No Networking.
    3. Run Driver Sweeper 2.8.0.
    4. Select 'ATI Display' in Driver Sweeper.
    5. Click Analyse.
    6. Click Clean
    7. Reboot
    8. Install 10.12 with Custom Install option.

"Improvement" is subjective, but I'd say SB sounds a drop fuller. Either way, a difference in sounds between SB being active or not is noticeable.

Just install it like that or uninstall and do some driver cleaner thingy n then install this???

    Thanx for the appreciation :)

Same here bro. My XPS is always updated and I love to help everyone at NBR :)

Listen guys. Chipset drivers now comes with Windows 7 and the driver that Intel provides just fixes or updates few components wherever it finds necessary. It should mostly be installed while a clean installation. Now this new version has nothing much for us, if you see the change log it just adds support for:
    # Intel® 6 Series Express Chipsets
    # 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processor family
which we certainly dont have ;)

Hope this clarifies the question?? :)

I didn't see the changelog at first for the chipset driver or I wouldn't have bothered, but apparently I got it working correctly. I visited the Intel DownloadCenter website and ran the scanner tool, and it reported the latest version of 9.2.0.1021.

If you just double click the .exe file it doesn't do anything. If you use the -overall switch it takes a minute or so, tells you what it's updating, and requires a system restart to finish.

If anyone's interested, here's what to do:
    1. Open the Command Prompt
    2. Navigate to the folder where the chipset file you downloaded is located (put the file on the desktop and enter "cd desktop" for newbs :) )
    3. Enter in infinst_autol.exe -overall

Is it better to install all drivers like this with the -overall or just the normal installation, whats the difference??? Does it uninstall the whole thing, all drivers and then install from scratch??

I tried it out, and what it did was replace all the built-in Microsoft drivers with Intel drivers for a whole bunch of "system devices", such as the CPU controllers, memory controllers, registers, PCI-E controllers, etc. Generally, I'd consider Intel drivers better compared to Microsoft ones, but I doubt there will be a noticeable performance improvement.

One thing that I did notice is that the -overall switch screwed up my AHCI / Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers, and prevented me from re-installing them. This is a problem for those with SSDs. It was easy to fix though, you just had to download the "AHCI F6 drivers" from the Intel website, which are the RST drivers without the installer, and then manually install them through the device manager using the "Have Disk" method, after which the RST driver package installed normally.

"Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers" Is that even necessary??? As that is screwing up my system's boot up to fully loaded state time... Right now it takes around 4-5 mins flat for all the drivers n other stuff to load... And is it absolutely necessary to install the option that comes during the setup which asks us to install a monitoring software that lies in the taskbar? (the one with a HDD and a tick mark over it).

Just clearing ma doubts about this system...

I generally disable the tray icon via msconfig, as it's not necessary. I'd recommend that everyone install RST, as they're updated AHCI drivers, but they're really only required if you have a SSD, as you can't use TRIM with the generic Microsoft drivers. 4-5 minutes is a crazy long boot time, even with a standard HDD, though if boot times are a concern for you, you should try a SSD, Win7 boots for me in around 30 sec (from bootmanager prompt to login prompt).

OK, I had an issue but I solved it. I was searching Intel's Download Center for "AHCI" and was only finding old drivers which were not compatible with the full installation of RST 10.1.0.1008 but then I searched for 10.1.0.1008 and found this and this worked...

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=19601&keyword="10.1.0.1008"&lang=eng

For others who are having this same issue, uninstall RST, then manually install the driver above (in Device Manager, go to "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers"..."Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller" and do a "Browse my computer for driver software" manual install and go to the folder where you extracted the above and Windows 7 should find it and update it), and then do the full installation of RST 10.1.0.1008 and you should be all set.

In Device Manager, look under the "System Devices" category, there's a bunch of devices in there that should now show that they are using the new Intel drivers.

Edit: I just installed this with -overall on my desktop with a C2D, and the only thing that it updated was the USB controller drivers. You have a 1640, also with a C2D, so maybe it's the same for you. It's likely that the drivers that it updates are specific to the Core-i series of CPUs.
