I do it the same way you do chewy, in fact after express removal of the old drivers, I boot to safe mode before I use Driver Sweeper and CCleaner's registry cleaner. It might be unnecessary as some people have said, but I just feel like I'm eliminating any chances of driver installation problems if I do it that way (as I have experienced variations in FPS based on how I installed a video driver). Or maybe I'm just not keen to change, who knows? :D Do whatever floats your boat I guess.

You think AMD would address the issue with CCC not opening... Ive uninstalled old drivers, safe mode Driver Sweeper CCcleaner and then installed and still can't get CCC to open

I had this problem too, the only version I've ever had a problem. I had to install/uninstall 4 times until now I can open CCC with no issues. It's weird and I changed nothing at my end (it never showed any errors during install and/or when I tried opening it).

One way AMD gets around making quality ATI driver releases for mobile cards is by saying that it's a reference driver to be used at your own risk, and that you should get your drivers from the laptop manufacturer.

I have a 4670- Just installed Catalyst 11.1 directly over 10.12. No issues (except for the fugly CCC, but it's working as intended). Otherwise no useful feature upgrades or performance upgrades. Not really sure why I installed it in the first place

I had a similar issue with CCC not opening. I removed everything (booted safe mode, used driversweeper, and all that jazz...). Then, I couldn't get any ATI driver to install at all. The display driver would fail to install.

What I eventually ended up doing was installing the driver manually, and everything has been fine since. I cleaned out whatever driver remnants were installed, downloaded the official package again, and then did the manual install.

The following link will help with a manual install: AMD Game Forums - How To Manually Install Catalyst Display Drivers

Back with my old Dell Inspiron 8500 (w/ Nvidia gfx), I used to used laptopvideo2go.com to get my drivers and it always worked out well.

Try these steps for whoever CCC isnt working.

    *

o Disable Eyefinity groups, Crossfire, if enabled
o Optional - Enter Device Manager: Uninstall Display Adapters and check box for 'Delete Device Driver'
o Add/Remove Programs: Remove currently installed Application Profile updates (if installed)
o Uninstall CCC and Display Driver, using Catalyst Install Manager Custom mode (Don't express uninstall if you have an AMD Chipset)
    o Reboot into safe mode
o Run Driver Sweeper for ATI Display Drivers, don't reboot.
o Run CCleaner for Registry - run Analyze and only select ATI entries for removal.
o Delete the following folders (applies to Vista/7)
    + SystemDrive:\ProgramData\ATI
    + SystemDrive:\Users\username\AppData\Local\ATI
    + SystemDrive:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\ATI
o Reboot to desktop, run Express install on desired Catalyst driver & reboot if prompted.
o Install the latest Catalyst Application Profile.
    o Re-enable Crossfire; re-create Eyefinity groups; Overdrive/CCC Profiles
    o Enjoy!

There were 1 or 2 random minor bug fixes that affected me, and performance in Starcraft 2 seems about 5% or so better (although other games I have seem to have no improvement).

It says on the site that these drivers are not official and as of Feb 8th, they are not on Intel's site. What does that mean? Internal release? Beta release? Or, an official release that has just not been put on the Intel website yet (i.e., it was leaked)? Should I install these or wait for an official release? Thanks.

Just installed Mobility Radeon 11.1 CCC driver. Except a reboot is required after installation to make the driver works. Everything works fine.

    XPS1645, i7-740QM, 4GB DDR3 1333, ATi 5730 1GB, 15.6" WLED, 500GB 7200rpm HDD.

The release notes say that only the Intel Control Center (an optional component) was updated. Most people won't need the update.

Couldn't it still be an internal or beta release and be WHQL signed? That is, it still could be work in progress? I guess that is my concern with some of these releases. Doesn't WHQL just mean it is certified that it is a legitimate driver for Windows? Thanks.

    Cool, thanks!

    Hey guys,

I just wanted to go over the exact process I used to install the newest ATI Driver/Catalyst Control Center in case it may help others. I was hopeful that downloading and directly installing the newest package off of the AMD website would work without having to do anything special... but after installing it like that, I once again had the issue where CCC would not start when I tried to open it.

Anyway, the process I used is as follows:

    1) Using the installer/uninstaller from the driver package available from the AMD website, I selected the (custom) uninstall option and removed all of the previously installed ATI components.

    2) I booted into safe mode and used driver sweeper to clean up any remaining bits of ATI things. (Driver sweeper is available here: Phyxion.net - Downloads)

    3) I then booted back into regular mode and followed the instructions on the following link to manually install the display driver only. (You can do this by starting the ATI package installer, canceling it when it's finished extracting the files, then go into the device manager and manually updating the display adapter driver (Explained in more detail in the following link: AMD Game Forums - How To Manually Install Catalyst Display Drivers)

    4) I rebooted and started the ATI package installer again. I selected a custom install, and I selected everything EXCEPT the display driver (since it was already installed). After that finished, everything was working and fully updated.

I would hope the same process would work for others who are having trouble installing ATI/CCC updates!

So, i usually do like messing with drivers, but a certain problem on my SXPS 1645 is really bugging me

Whenever I'm typing and I press Caps Lock, the pop-up notification comes and steals the focus.
I don't mind the pop-up but it stealing the focus is becoming a problem
My friend as the same laptop with the same issue, he's had the problem for a while now, but weirdly I didn't have the problem till about 2 months ago, it just started happening.

Is there an updated driver or a fix?

I know there is a solution for this, and I think it is a small registry tweak... because I was having the same problem. Let me see if I can find it.

    *edit: Found it!
    Here we go:
"I was also annoyed with the caps-lock indicator stealing focus. I'm a fast typist, but not a touch typist as I regularly use caps lock to make capitals - done it that way since I was young and it's a hard habit to break! This was especially annoying as focus would be taken from a browser, IDE or word-processor in which I was writing. I narrowed it down to Dell QuickSet and removed it from startup in a quick burst of anger.

Turns out QuickSet, whilst having some trivial features such as visible volume/brightness indicators, is quite essential for the eject button and other multimedia key functions (e.g. battery info). I had a look on here and seeing as you ddn't get much luck with your solution, thought I'd try fiddling around with the registry myself. I went straight to the Dell QuickSet registry keys and changed a couple, and found to my surprise, that one of them changes the appearance of the dialogs for brightness, volume, etc. Setting this to 1 meant there was NO caps lock indicator, and the volume/brightness indicators are more colourful, and whilst I prefer the previous transparent grey ones they're not too bad.

Just find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dell Computer Corporation\QuickSet\QuickSetControl and set it to 1

Let me know what you think. I've not tested this extensively yet, so not sure if there are any new problems to be wary of, but so far I'm happy."

    From here: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/f/3526/t/19311373.aspx

If I recall correctly, this is what I did and it works.

In the Registry Under QuickSet there is only 1 subfolder named "SelectedFeatures"

In the QuickSet Folder the keys are as following

    (Default)
    BrightnessDlgX
    BrightnessDlgY
    DisableBattPopUp_Primary_Caution
    DisableBattPopUp_Primary_Replace
    DisableBattPopUp_Sec_Caution
    DisableBattPopUp_Sec_Replace
    Make
    MonitorDlgX
    MonitorDlgY
    revid
    VolumeDlgX
    VolumeDlgY

    Sub-Folder: SelectedFeatures

    (Default)
    BacklitKeyboard
    BacklitKeyboard_Support
    DispConfig
    ExtBattLife
    WiFiLocRadioCtrl
Should i update the driver then check again?

and then in the next post on 1/26, Seeker let us know that it was available for Mobility cards...

However, you are right it is not on the first page but like Bipul said he has been busy. Thanks Bipul for all of your work.

    Note:
If you are getting the 'No compatible hardware found' Setup Error message using the Drivers and Downloads linked latest Broadcom unified driver and want to install the DW WLAN Card Utility app w/o using device manager then:

    ftp://ftp.us.dell.com/network/R289603.exe

Just replace the 'DellInst.enc' file from the older Broadcom driver above into the new DELL_MULTI-DEVICE_A37_R295615 extracted folder then rerun setup.exe.

This got the utility app running on my system...YMMV

Otherwise, I have also uploaded the latest v5.100.235.13 with replaced 'DellInst.enc' file upto Deposit Files

One thing to note is that the individual download of 63.6MB did not work for me even after going through the process of uninstalling drivers, sweeping them in safe mode, ect. Trying to install this after selecting express will not install video drivers only CCC.

The 1.1MB file that is extracted afterwards did work for me. Might save some frustration for others.

I also have a question in device manger under other devices it shows Intel Centrino Advanced N + WiMAX 6250 as not having a driver. But then under Network adapters it shows that same device as installed and working.

    Any ideas?

Concerning the WiMax 6250, I have the same thing, but in my case I know exactly why: I have the intel Wireless drivers installed, but not the WiMAX drivers installed. So the one that is showing as installed and working is the wireless and the one that reports no drivers is the WiMAX part.

I also installed the new video drivers using the small downloader (which inturns downloads the big file)... worked perfectly.
