Lol... I'd seriously question the technician if he didn't notice anything in my 9400! :D

The second heat-pipe from my GTX 7950 is a dead give away! Plus the broken-off plastic part to make this XPS-card fit in my inspiron!

Maybe Dell should repeat this experience! This way, we could get the AW Card in our XPS without them knowing :p

If Dell is going to give us 650M + GDDR5 in the L521X, I want to be drinking something when it's revealed so that I can do a good spittake.

I'm all for that discrete combo, but how on Earth are they going to keep it cool with a chassis under an inch? It's tough enough on the L502x, even the L7.

All this news is actually very reassuring, even if it is only a 640M. I get 30% off from the Dell website because of the university I'm attending next year.

Even though it is just speculation it definitely seems to be towards the top of it's competition..

look, there is a rumor that apple mbp 2012 is going to house a GT650m and cpu options are i7 3720qm, i7 3820qm & i7 3920xm in a even more thin chasis than the current one! power consumption of GT640m(ddr3) is similar to GT 525m and I guess TDP of gt650m will be around GT540m(?), though ddr5 will make it slightly hotter!
I think there will no 650m in L521x as Dell is always promoting only AW for gaming therefor they will leave no stone unturned to ensure that there will be no AW gfx card in L521x  ! I am hopeless with dell!
Also I am hopeless with display! Dell is continuously downgrading their display quality!

look at xps 13 screen.....low contrast, high black level and narrow viewing angle spoiled all the fun of having great performance & build quality!

look at AW m14x R1/R2 screen......it is almost a mirror, again narrow viewing angle & low color gamut!

The golden era of studio xps 16s and studio 15s are over! studio xps 16's screen is still one of the greatest! Now a days Dell is only going for "nits",completely ignoring the viewing angle and color gamut issue! None of Dell's premium laptops have IPS panel where all other rivals are going for it!
Bill, do you have any explanation?

just noted cnet asia has said samsung series 9 ivy bridge will be available from June 3rd so would expect dell to have an announcement around then seeing other ivy bridge dual cores will be available in the market place.

C'mon now. I understand some of your griefs, yet :

    - MBPs get hot. Really hot. Even better, iirc the 6750/6770M AMD GPUs they used on last year's batch were downclocked from factory, yet they were still reaching high temps. That's what you pay for packing horsepower in such a small form factor. I expect the newer ones will experience the same problems, if not worse

    - The studio XPS had high temps and occasionnally throttling issues depending on your setup. Build quality was also inconsistent from what I gathered at the time. Yes the RGB LED display was awesome but it was darn expensive too.

If we were going to deliberately leak a slide, it sure wouldn't be that one. It's terrible. Looks like someone's aunt who is using PPT for the first time made it and chose the worst photo imaginable.

I doubt it's espionage. If one company gets info on another, they aren't going to share it publicly for all the other competitors to see. They lose most of the benefit of having the knowledge at that point. Besides, I'm sure Apple, HP, et al are of the highest moral character, and would never resort to any kind of chicanery. ;)

I really hope the next version of the XPS 15 and 17 models make it easier to clean the fan. I have a Inspiron E1505 and I hate how I have to take everything apart just to get to the fan assembly to clean it.

If Dell could just cut out a small partition on the underside of the laptop near the side of the fan vents held by 2 screws to have easier access to the fan I would very much appreciate it. Being able to get easy access to clean out the fans in any laptop should be a high priority for any manufacturer for laptop longevity and reducing laptop temperatures.

I know previous XPS models had easy access to the fans which is why I know its possible.

I was referencing the Asus that was posted. Nothing has been said about whether the XPS will have ethernet ports or not. However, if Dell had to choose between eSATA and ethernet, I'd choose eSATA.

I heard earlier on here that the 640M would be roughly 50% better than the 540M, how would a 650M GDDR5 perform compared to a GT 555?

Forgive the dumb question, i'm out of hardware world since i bought my xps 1530 4 years ago.

    Which is the difference or comparison between a 640 gddr5 , a 650 gdr3 and a 650 gdr5 ?

640 GDDR5 will perform closer to (of course less unless overclocked) a 650 GDDR3 level and than a 650 GDDR5 is the best performing one out of the bunch, than comes the GTX versions.

I'm sure someone else will speak more in depth but that's the jist of it :p

Synthetic benchmarks and real gaming showed that GT 640M DDR3 is at same level as GT 555M DDR3 and GT 650M GDDR5 is only slightly slower than GTX 560M GDDR5.

I hope L521X thermal solution can handle the new hardwares. It will be sux if your laptop overheat and throttle every time when playing games.
