Vizio makes good quality stuff, which I can say as I own their 2 TVs. They're budget minded, but quality is important as well.
They're #1 in the USA for a reason. I do hope this lowers prices though, as it really is quite an amazing deal for any laptop, never mind this high a spec.

If its available, I wouldn't be surprised if Dell uses the die shrunk 630m to reduce power usage. Otherwise, the decision to use the 630m makes little to no sense.

Also, I haven't seen any information indicating the XPS14 would be not be a U processor. What has you thinking they will offer 35 and 17 W parts? I'm not saying you are wrong, but I'm curious what would make you think that. I really cant' think of any product lines that have mixed low and full power parts off the top of my head.

This isn't a poltergeist. And none of us are morons. We don't need confirmation of its existence. We can see it with are own eyes. We just need a few more specs. I'm grateful Bill visits this thread at all, but it's not his fault nor his superiors that the time has not yet come to divulge the XPS particulars. He has stated repeatedly that it will be about two weeks from now.

    I have no clue :)

but seriously, everyone assumed from the start that 35W would be the only available choice. The ulv series was designed to contain power usage and heat in ultraboks, not in "slightly thinner" notebooks like the 14. A few pages back (a few dozens ) someone hinted at the possibility of low voltage, and if I recall correctly Bill gave one of his half suggestion that something like that could or could not come along at some point in the future :D .
I stick to the opinion that even the top offer from the intel family of ULVs is underpowered for the 14, but I left the table open because there is a slight possibility dell decided to seriously cut on processing power to extend battery life... a lot.
Also, I didn't even knew a die shrunk gt630 existed, nvidia's mobile offer really confuses me. All that rebranding never did any good to anyone... but if it exist, it's certainly the only way that choice could make sense

Yea if you go back a few pages, I put a link to anandtech where they had all of the 600m series cards. The product line is... not easy to follow.

I can't see how the 14 could get such great battery life without using a 17w processor though. (If the leaks are to be believed)

Well, standard-voltage made sense given the thickness and weight of the 14, but every leak we have seen with the 14 has indicated a U-series CPU. I am genuinely bummed; I thought the 14 was going to be my next laptop. With the 630M, it means it's like twice the bulk of a ZBP with identical processing power (on both CPU and GPU) and a lower-end display. I like Dell better as a company and have had great experience with them, and I am willing to take a hit on hardware to stick with them. However, I think this might just be too much of a hit.

that's my point! they could create a base version with ulv processor and then proceed with the marketing hype:

Incredible battery life! 14 hours* of entertainment!

*only with U series processor, 5% of display brightness and everyday mars usage

This! Suggest you all hit the "Learn More" link and check it out. What they don't tell you there is sometimes we float systems out there for purchase before they launch. The system speculated about on this thread, were it to actually exist, is not included in the program. The rule of thumb is if the system is offered in another region, you can get it from Advantage in the US ahead of the US release date.

*note to self: follow up on this comment in a week and a half or so.

How do you rate the display ? Black level and, mainly, viewving angles ( i mean, uniformity on display color) ? I'm not asking technical details about hardware, only a subjective statement about display compared to other laptop you got in the past.

If they used standard voltage processors noting would stop them from using the U quad core 35w.
it will probably be something like envy 14 but with graphics, which is a plus

That's good to hear because I think this supposed system, if it exists, would look great with that top in a soft touch black or a carbon fiber like the bottom.

Yeh had a better look at it now and the only time they DONT charge you is when the unit is faulty or the configuration is wrong, etc something that Dell have done wrong.

So basically there is a 15% fee and shipping + handling (who knows how much that is as its included in the price) if you just wish to return it because you changed your mind (even when it has not been opened.)

Looks like I'm going to get the 15R Special Edition, the specs are ok and only the GPU is really not great... however I do not play any type of games on my laptop so that is not really an issue.

I cannot wait for Dell's XPS and possibly lose $200 on the 15R SE... dont like gambling and this is what I have to do if I wait for the XPS before the 30th of June.

The only thing I want it to do well is play HD youtube/videos that can be accelerated over the GPU, and the HD 7730M can do that easily.

So all the best to all those waiting for the new XPS, I'm going to take the lift down to the lower class Inspirion :)

    Cya's.

Question: Are there any LED indicators for Power, Battery, HD activity, WiFi, etc. as there were on previous systems?

And who's that chick on your Imageshack? :)

The LEDs are always a great form of instant read on the system mechanics. I'll miss them as well.

Sorry if you mentioned this already, but are you under an NDA? Can you not talk about device specifics, i.e. screen panel type -- I know you mentioned how good it was, but I'm talking about manufacturer, color gamut, etc. Also, speaker type, i.e. JBL/Skullcandy, etc. Basically I'm wondering if you can go into "system devices" and track down the OEMs and such. If not, no worries, and thanks for posting what you can.

Thanks. I love the EPP and Dell Advantage. Though once in a while, its cheaper to not buy through EPP I've noticed. I'm curious why Latitudes aren't listed on EPP, or is it based on who your employer is?

It would mean it's earlier than what we're expeting, since bill told us it was in the [june 22 - july 1st] range, and that usually, dell annouce and release on the same day!

Edit : Or they pushed back release day since you sign that NDA :p

I'm a little worried about thermal dissipation, if bottom is insulated resin means that laptop cooler will be useless, besides it have grid only on bottom then it's necessary to take much care where it is put, for example nothing of soft.

The heat dissipated from a notebook body doesn't really makes much difference on cooling, there is a reason why gaming notebooks are all isolated and not a giant piece of metal. the only advantage is when idling it would maybe be possible to turn of the fans, i guess that is not going to happen on the xps.
Has long has the cooler is pointed to the air entrance it should help.

Hmm. I have a longer term plan for setting up NBR members in a beta. We have a slew of product releases going on right now, so my bandwidth is very strained right now. I really don't have time to post here, but I really love hanging with you guys and watching these speculation threads develop.

I had this down to start building the business case for Q4. I'll think about bumping it up to Q3 after we get through the launch season.

Disclaimer: This is Dell. Planning something for Q4 may mean it won't launch until FY14Q3 at the earliest, if I can even pull it off.
