I dont mind him, in my opinion he's fine here, he is inquiring about the XPS which is what were discussing in the forum. I do see what you are saying though, this forum does get off topic when bill doesnt post. Hopefully he'll be back soon! I want updates![]()
-
YOu have not to write something if you don't know what to write or there's nothing more to write. Write in topic is a part of _netiquette_. I come almost daily on this thread to read leaks or news or AT LEAST speculation about XPS and i'm forced to screen and scroll among a lot of off topic and not interesting (from apoint of view of a thread subscriber) stuff looking for something in topic and then interesting. A little bit annoying the screening and selection stuff to be honest.
-
If you'd like, one of us could post up the same links that have been posted up 100 times already?
-
If you're having trouble deciding what laptop you want to buy, please go to the 'What should I buy' section of the forum and make a post there, this is not the proper thread for the discussion, it is for discussion related to the L521x, not what laptop you should buy and why. It makes it difficult for people to find any information regarding the laptop when there's 8 pages of talking about what laptop someone should get.
Anyway, the XPS 15 should game decently, 1080p with lowered settings in almost all cases (except BF3). The bigger question is the clockspeed of the GT640m in the XPS, if it's fully clocked up or not, and how much headroom there is, given a cooling pad and a decent gpu you should be able to reach the 775mhz of the 650m's gddr5 version. -
well I do agree, but there still is very few leaks to be had. downlinx is a tester who is under NDA who already revealed as much as he could, and as he doesn't work for dell and technically has his privacy secured and still isn't revealing anything, I doubt we're gonna get anything else from them anytime soon
if there were any more links to be had, downlinx would probably give them. (Or leaks XD)
I am just as excited as you, but how can we pass the time by not posting?
I DO admit the thread gets off topic though. No arguing there... XD -
I wonder if Bill has tested overclocking one of the systems to see how the cooling handles it..
*cough*
If it does that would be a very nice thing to be able to do, even though I would be perfectly content gaming at medium or lower 1080p. -
If these could overclock that'd be awesome! Sadly they dell doesn't include that in BIOS anymore, or ever really did from what i know.
-
the XPS15 should be able to play SC3 and D3 perfectly at 1080P correct?
-
Ok so I broke my Dell inspiron 1525 screen a few days ago and the replacement (i.e. a better 1650x1050 display)is about $98. Knowing I won't be getting the XPS 15 till hopefully the end of summer should I get the screen now or keep saving for the XPS?
-
I'd get the screen. Your 1525 will have a lot more resale value with a working screen, no?
Its at least a couple weeks til you can get a XPS 15 in hand -
15 pages of spam only for today... GG guys
-
Thank you for your contribution!
-
If it's a standard cable setup, then you could probably buy a 1920x1200 LG LP154WU1 on eBay for less than $60.
-
For what reason? I figured I'd want as much screen real estate as possible.
-
In addition, being on a budget refers to the case where there is no available laptop within budget that has a better display and still suits the user's needs. It doesn't refer to the case where someone's budget is not high enough to buy a specific laptop in a configuration that includes an upgraded display, but is high enough to buy the laptop without the upgraded display.
-
You do sound a bit crazy but not for the reason you think.
Its not that you are paranoid about privacy, it's that you think a TN panel fixes the issue. TN viewing angles are bad but they aren't that bad.
You either need the aforementioned privacy film(even this probably isn't good enough) or just don't work on sensitive documents when there are 100+ people sitting in close proximity to you. -
Yeah i have no Idea on the subject, all I know is the 1650x1200 was max on the support section. Also do you know the highest processor i can get for it, currently has a t5450 c2d 1.67 ghz and it is removable. (forgive off-topic-ness)
-
How critical is it that the 1525 is working for you during that time? I wouldn't factor in resale value since people talk about selling their stuff but often don't ever get around to it, especially for something this old where you typically won't get much money for it (maybe $150-200 [then subtract the $98 you paid for the new display]).
If it isn't critical that it's working (i.e. you have an alternative), I'd probably just save the money for the XPS. -
I just realized how old that machine is. I agree, you are looking at a minimum of two weeks more without a laptop if you don't repair it. If you can wait that long, I'd just save.
-
lord please leak some more XPS info a manual sum thing this spam is killing me more pics even dell come on and release the damn thing what you waiting on Christmas geez

Just a drive by. Busy busy busy over here. We're launching 3 sub-brand product lines tomorrow. Watch the blog and Dell.com. This will clear the decks for any possible product launch that we may still have planned in the near future... if we have anything planned. I will probably be kicking around in a new thread in about a week...or so...who knows?
-
Thanks for stopping by. go get some rest!
Hmm tomorrow... Vostros, Inspirons, and the teasers for the new XPS? -
All I hope is there are price teasers.
-
I feel that we all deserve a sneak preview of this
-
Vostros and Inspirons and Latitudes were already refreshed, Precisions, XPS, and... ??? need to be updated still.

This link might have been posted before, many pictures on this site.
I ran it through google translate and it look like the computers are very well specced. Good battery life, thin and with good hardware. Hopefully the numbers 2.07 for the 14" machine and 2.66 for the 15" machine isin't the weight...If so, then it's kinda heavy. -
That is the weight, and at least for the 15" machine it's most likely accurate, 2 hard drives, an optical drive, and a decent sized battery, along with a magnesium aluminum chassis tend to create some weight, 5.86 pounds is average, not heavy, not light.
-
At this point I think the amount Bill tells us is directly proportional to the time we have to wait
. When we had a long time to wait, Bill tried to give us more info for us to bide the time. Now that we have just a few days to go, Bill's going to make us sweat it out!
-
For mobility purposes while still getting the rest of what you want in a lap?

Not sure this has been posted here, but notebook check posted their article on the leaked Dell xps 14 and 15 based off that chinese website. they added some speculated prices.
Dell XPS 14 and 15 specs leaked - Notebookcheck.net News
"The website has also mentioned that the XPS 14 model might be priced around $1299, while the XPS 15 model will be likely to be sold at a price around $1599 - $1699. " -
The inspirons aren't officially available in the US yet (only on Dell Advantage). Only one of the new Vostros are shipping in the US as well.
I would like for it to be XPS and Precision though... Oh.. and I'd also like the new Latitude Ultrabooks to be announced. -
Who still thinks about the new MBP should (again) be aware that it will get "quite" hot:
"Unfortunately, during our standard heat tests (playing a Hulu video at full screen), the space between the G and H keys reached 105 degrees Fahrenheit. That's well above what we consider uncomfortable. The center of the bottom was borderline, at 95 degrees, while the touchpad was a cool 82 degrees."
Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display Review | Mainstream Laptop Reviews
That is a lot of heat for playing a video only. Now the new MBP is dead for me not even mentioning the price point. -
There is no way Dell will launch at those prices. That is MPB territory, even the Envy 15 is not as much as that.
-
Once again Bill (let me remind you all that he works for Dell and is closely linked to the XPS project, and as such knows all the specs and price ranges, as opposed to a journalist that only speculates, especially as all the info he has comes from romanian and chinese websites) told us that 1100$ is very close to the base price of the XPS15. I REALLY don't understand why people believe the 1599$-1699$ rumor. I would expect the higher end system (basically the romanian and chinese 15's that were leaked) to be along those prices but DEFINATELY not the low-end systems!
-
Let's say the XPS comes with an option to choose either the 630M or 640M GPU (as some rumors suggest). Would a better GPU benefit me when using Lightroom 4.0? Won't be playing games, but will be editing a lot of RAW files. I tried google but couldn't find an answer.
-
I guess we will see in a few days....
But as I said before, the 15R SE top range model is around $1250 - $1299 depending on country.
So if the 15R SE is at that price, and the XPS has the same specs but is a much better machine (thinner, nicer design etc) then it cannot be cheaper....
Maybe the XPS 15 with only 720p screen and no bluray will start at $1100? -
Im guessing the i5 XPS with 4 GB of ram will be in that territory. The i7 loaded will be in the 1499-1599 territory (just my guestimate)
-
I agree.
10char. -
I don't know about prices in $ but here Samsung's 17" chronos is ~€1400. It's a high-end notebook, it has a 17" display and it will compete with the XPS 15 (although it's a bit heavier and bigger, for me it's still an alternative).
I don't think it would be wise for Dell to price the i7/8gb/640M any higher than this. I'd say it should be slightly cheaper since 15" notebooks are usually less expensive than their 17" counterparts. -
Not sure if I can agree with that, 15" notebooks/laptops are desirable, 17" is for the niche market...
-
Not so far as it looks. Sounds like Lightroom will bring GPU acceleration via OpenCL but no announcements so far.
-
According to the rumor mill, the Dell 15" will weigh in at 2.66, the Chronos 17" is 2.98 - and almost equally thin. So if you can stomach the slightly bigger footprint, and slightly bigger price tag - you get a 650 ddr5, and a great 17" screen without sacrificing portability.
-
Bill said that the starting price won't be much different from the starting price of L502X last year: I don't remember how much it was, but my brother bought one one month after release and he paid 1600€ (rough) for the highest configuration available atm. Besides, Bill said that 1100$ won't be far from the real starting price, so if we consider that in Europe they often convert 1$=1€ (rough), maybe the range 1200$-1700$ (and 1200€-1700€ for EU) will cover all the possible configurations for L521X
-
I think if Dell try and sell the XPS at that high price it could be a mistake..well if it converts basically $1 : £1 as it basically does as some of its competitors e.g the lenovo are selling their new Y580 with NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX660M 2GB graphics and 8 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz and Intel® Core i7-3610QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz) all for just under £1000...
-
Just heard about these and I'm intrigued. I hope the price for the XPS 15 isn't too much higher than the new Vizio CT15/CN15.
-
Three new announcements on Direct2Dell - Direct2Dell - Dell Community All Inspiron related. I guess thats the three announcements Bill mentioned
-
Interesting. The one for $ 949,- doesn't have a FHD screen, you'll have to get the one for $ 1149,-
But nice laptop btw, didn't see this one before. Might be a good option if the XPS 15 is not what expected. -
Tweakers.net claim they have the official specs: Specificaties en foto's Dell XPS 14 en 15 komen naar buiten | Core | Tweakers.net Nieuws
Which translates to:
- Full HD 1920x1080
- I5-3320M or i7-3520M
- 23.2mm thick
- 2.6 kg (=5.73lbs)
- Max 16GB ddr3
- HDD from 1TB (5400rpm) + 32SSD to single 512GB SSD
They don't list their source, so it's probably the same (official ?!) one as where they got the first leaked image.
No price or ETA in their post.
And the build quality:
"Both the XPS14 and 15 are made of aluminum. The palm rests are made of magnesium. The bottom is based on silicone, because this would give a cooler feeling."
There are also a few images, but they don't really tell anything new, except maybe for the lid?
-
Hmm this is news?
The Inspirion 15R SE has been available on the Dell Australia website for like 3 weeks? -
Lets say, I don't have a job yet and I'm planning to get one so I don't have the means yet to get the XPS, and my Inspiron is the only useable laptop besides my mom's work laptop that I can use.
