Notebook computers - IdeaPad Y580 - United Kingdom (UK) | Lenovo | (GB)

in the UK it does have the full HD screen too all for £999.99 haha. just thinking the $1600 is a massive price tag for the XPS. It is on a sale atm which makes it RRP £1244. Its just a waiting game now to see what XPS has to say for us all :)

Bill did hint we should remind him to talk about us wanting the laptop in black after it was released...

Fair enough! Just surprised that they only launched these in the US today? Normally US gets things before everyone else?

I'm getting the 15R SE top range edition, dont want to wait for the XPS anymore.

Man, there isn't anything new there, there are the same info here. But the CPU is different, 3520M instead of 3612QM: sounds wrong to me, because it's a dual core..I also hope that the black one won't have that looking, it's so damn ugly

I have a bad feeling we in the UK will get screwed over in price, Dell is going to go Over the Top with the price of these I think. If it's the prices that people have been guessing, looks like the last 2 months of waiting has been a waste for me and others.

So Dell University did not put up the newly released Inspirons, but Dell advertises the Free Xbox deal on the new Inspiron pages. Are the Inspirons going to be available on Dell University today? If the new xps 15, when it releases, isn't on there it might be a deal breaker for me.

Maybe it's just me but that lid is ugly.
I would much prefer the type of lid on the XPS13 or even the new inspirons to this.

Well, 1250$ seems a fair base price, but only if the 1080p display is included.

If there isn't 3612QM i can say goodbye to this deal.
Maybe Dell has recognised overheating with quad core, but it's strange because 3520 and 3612 have the same TDP.

I think there's no way they will sell their highest-end consumer laptop without a quad core option, otherwise it will be an epic fail.

BestBuy does this all the time - especially with Apple laptops.
I have found many laptops on their site prior to release, they will probably be down in a few hours (or less ) but it does give some pricing ideas to those of us who are in the dark.

Well, it says "6-cell lithium-ion battery", but every leaked info seemed to converge on the 9-cell.
The full read and write support for next-generation Blu-ray Disc (BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE) would be great, but 1600$ for only 32GB SSD seems too much to me

Bestbuy will usually get some of the specs wrong - normally they will get the highlights correct (such as Ram, HD, Processor etc) but the smaller details are sometimes missing.

XPS 15 Higher configuration starts from 1580$, but don't like 32GB SSD is always included.
I like to buy 128GB SSD later.

    So it's confirmed there will be a 3612QM :D

It's interesting to read 6GB version, they say: "6GB DDR3 memory
For multitasking power, expandable to 8GB."
This mean RAM is not soldered. :D

This is what I expected, for the top line XPS15 your paying close to $1600.... which is reasonable for a nice design and chasis... and like I said the Inspirion 15R SE with same specs is $1299... so you pay extra for the XPS design.

I just purchased a 15R SE :) Quite happy to get it for $1099, special until tomorrow... lucky I did because I would have to pay almost $500 more for the XPS (I dont mind the look of the new SE Inspirion).

Also I'll be looking at getting this mSATA drive:
    OCZ Nocti mSATA SSD 120GB [OCZ-NOC-MSATA-120G] - $229.00 : PC Case Gear

Hopefully the 15R SE can take it, should be the same as the XPS, the internals are the same.

I'm still kind of worried for the msata and screen. Considering that all three 15" laptops have the same, is it safe to assume that it is the "lower-end" screen and not the most expensive option? In this case you would need to add about 200$ for the better screen. Add to this about 250/300$ if you want a 256gb msata drive instead of the 32gb, and a 3 year warranty package for about 300$, that totals up to 2400$ and that makes it really expensive!!

Here I was hoping that I would get a i7/640M/750gb+128gb/3year warranty for approx. 1500€... :(

Guys, always remember, BB gets a few versions of each model pre-built -- you can't customize these in-house. They will not have the best specs the way they would be offered on Dell.com. I wouldn't live and die by the specs listed on BB's site: those are neither all the available options nor the best possible prices.

I agree Muffin Man, but there's also no reasons for BB to be more expensive than Dell for the same configuration! From this you can pretty much figure out what it's going to cost you for your computer since you already have a comparable basis from these BB pages!

I'm pretty sure there isn't screen choice, with Gorilla Glass change screen is more difficult moreover with all this XPS 13/14/15 is not sense ulterior screen choice.

Mmm, well all I am interested in is to make sure I get Kepler GPU and a middle of road ( not base ) CPU for future proofness. I also hope they have solved the cooling and fan problems.

I just did a quick calculation for UK prices. The US prices do not include our VAT, so I did a straight conversion then added 20%:

    $1249 = £999 inc VAT.
    $1600 = £1221 inc VAT.

I would be very disappointed if the max config came in more than £1299 because as I mentioned before this is MPB territory which I don't think Dell want to enter.

Ok, but new Dell policy is much less customization, if you see new IspironR SE, all start model have 8GB 1600MHZ, Display FHD, HDD 1TB 5400rpm,AMD 7730m.
You can change processor (two choice) and blu-ray option, the rest is only software customization.

According to XPS13 replace mSATA SSD is very easy, but i like to not buy 32GB mSATA SSD from DELL (because overprice), if i have to replace with 128GB model later.
I want to save money to buy 128GB later and then what to do with 32GB version?

i believe all mSATA SSD and maybe all SSD that DELL uses are Samsung PM830.

Definitely. This is clearly a new stance by Dell which I think has a lot to do with the new design of the XPS. They simply can't offer myriad combinations, i.e. TV Tuner or six different display options like they had on the L502x.

Plus, I think these are just the initial launch options. After eight months out, the L502x had a lot more options to choose from.

My point was that BB purposely gets "retail, pre-packaged" versions. Just look at the Apple displays in their stores; you could go online and spec out a much nicer MBP than anything you'll get in a BB, so BB orders up the entry-level and mid-range versions to undercut their online competitors, not the high-end versions you and I would prefer and price out.

Someone recommended that I pickup this xps instead of an HP envy 15 (ivy bridge). Now that we have more info I was wondering what puts the xps ahead, since with coupons HP is about 300 cheaper with similar specs. Also, the 7750 on the HP seems like a superior graphics card, and the HP includes an IPS display, which is supposed to be better than the TN one available on the xps.
