For those that didn't see, this was posted earlier when Bestbuy leaked XPS pricing and info:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/650572-new-dell-xps-l521x-ivy-bridge-249.html#
I consider it the most legit so far regarding pricing (in the US).
As for release date, based on rumours and some educated guessing I think that Tues June 26 will be launch day in the US. I don't think it's a coincidence that the Inspirons, Vostros, Latitudes, etc. have all launched on Tuesdays. Of course, this is still just an educated guess.

I'm not interested in OC, but I want to know if XPS overheat or throttling in worst case.

have we heard anything about what trackpad software the 14 and the 15 are going to be using? Will it be the same as the 13 (that's been buggy) or will it be Synaptics?

If this were to be a real product that we release, we would be calling it an Ultrabook.
BB is wrong about the NIT number if this were a real product.
Would you want to pay Dell prices for memory and storage? Granted, if you do, most of that cost is in our warranty, which is generally better than a 3rd party, but you can save some money if you are willing to deal with the 3rd party for any warranty issues.
This is part of the answer.
Do those other guys have an extreme gaming line that they don't want to cannibalize sales from? Oh wait, no they don't.
You are on the right track, but you have to figure in scale when looking at cost. We have about 100k+ employees, just to illustrate the size of the company. When we were selling less numbers, it was, relative to the current landscape, easy to be a BTO (build to order) manufacturer. The "race to the bottom," which you could argue we started in 2001-ish, is what has driven the commiditization of the PC, in part. There are sales-side factors that had just as much to do with that. For instance, ubiquity drives supply up, which by the laws of supply and demand drives prices down. At some point you have to compete on price whether you started the war or not.
In short, to compete on price, supply and time to deliver the goods from point of sale, strictly BTO at our scale adds cost, lowers our overall ability to meet demand, and timeliness of order fulfillment. Having BTO options would be ideal, but it would also hinder overall sales due to the impact it would have on the 3 factors mentioned in the previous sentence.
No teaser page coming. I fought the good fight, but I have failed.
This was asked yesterday, and I was way too busy to even check in on the thread. So I'll answer as if it were asked today instead: No product releases are planned for today or tomorrow. Stay tuned (<-gratuitous?).
To get Sputnik, all you need is an off the shelf XPS 13. No "no OS" option is available on the Consumer and Small Biz side. I think you can negotiate that if you are a large account on the Commercial side, but the minimum number to order requirement would be out of our collective budgets.
So looking forward to your review, if this were an actual product.
Very good idea. Somebody want to ping a mod or the OP with a list of FAQ's and answers?
Super duper busy.
I'll put you on my Christmas card list if you PM me that exec's name. Would love to have a chat with him about Dell's confidentiality policy and our annual compliance training.
Hilarious and not long for this world. We've found that if you can rotate your SSD at 7200 RPM, your throughput increases on order of magnitude. If the product speculated about here ever comes to market, the lead story will be SSD breakthrough performance magic it just works technology. *palmfaceheaddesk* -
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Interesting...
-
Thanks for trying
Let's all group together, call the commercial side and buy a 1000s laptop whitout windows... We'll split the price between us
Sounds like a confirmation to me, for next tuesday
Just imagine how the whole laptop would vibrate if slightly offset... Could always advertize it has a "gaming" feature... to feel the game
-
I think that notebookreivew should set up a Wiki page similar to slickdeals.net but ehh... if it "semi-works" dont fix it.
-
Maybe it could ramp up when you're in games doing certain actions (eg, shooting) just like the old N64 rumble packs? Ahhh, those were the days.
-
Maybe 650M is not enough for a extreme gaming line specially when there is a notebook with o.73 inches and the same gpu..
-
Exactly what I was thinking about... Just couldn't remember the name
Edit:
Soma hacker would just makeup a small software that increase the HDD's usage in key moments of the game! Copy over a bunch of dummy files when you shoot at someone in the game
-
front vents where the lights r r for speakers / air intake / battery meter aka the lights an button below it
back vents hot air from fan / some intake too i guess -
Would be perfect for me
Dell advantage two day shipping, get it for the weekend!
-
HP ENVY Ultrabook 6t-1000 and the XPS 14 will be the only 4.7 lb ultra books

Regarding this, what would you consider the max weight of an Ultrabook? On the XPS 13 page it says: "Typically weighing in at 3lbs or less."Dell-Bill_B said: ↑If this were to be a real product that we release, we would be calling it an Ultrabook.Click to expand...
That being said, funnily enough only thinness is a requirement of Intel's Ultrabook spec, not weight, so Dell would probably qualify for a piece of Intel's Ultrabook fund.

1. Normally I think specs > design, but the alienware notebooks are so %&§"$ ugly, that I would never ever buy one.
And I know I'm not the only one who thinks that.
2. Where is a 15" alienware version? (14" and 17" are no option for me)
3. At least the older alienwares (~3-4 years ago) had a crappy build quallity
Someone who studied with me had one and after 1 year the case started breaking up on at least 3 different points
After 1,5 years he had to tape the whole right side of the case and the bottom was deformed because of overheating.
But i would definitelly buy a Dell with alienware specs and XPS 15(L502x) design/build quallity(I think the L521X design couldn't handle the increased heat + I don't like the new keyboard)
And I know at least 3 of my friends would also want a gaming capable notebook, that doesn't look like a gaming notebook.
HP Envy, Lenovo Y580, Lenovo W530 and the Dell XPS 15 come all very close to my dream notebook specs, but also all have almost-dealbreakers -

However, I don't see it listed in the options here -
lol I'm just hoping for a gt640m upgrade option for the xps14. If the macbook retina, a .7inch machine, can fit in a 650m, then the xps 14 should be able to fit in a 640m, otherwise it comes down to price difference, heat management, and battery life btwn xps 15 and envy 15.

I'm not agree with who says that the design of the Alienware is ugly, but I want a 15.6" laptop and Alienware haven't one.
17" is too big and 14" is too small, Besides the display of the 14" is really bad.
Moreover I prefer the design of the new XPS over Alienware one.
In conclusion I cannot consider Alienware an alternative to XPS, but I could consider other producers, and from what i read in this thread is a common thought.
Dell doesn't think that Inspiron17R SE can cannibalize Alienware 14" (both with 650m) the answer is obviously not.
Why they think XPS15 (15.6") can cannibalize Alienware 14"?
It is right that they must hold balanced the sales of the 2 lines, but Dell must do attention to not leave an open hole for the other producers.
Nothing to say instead if the choice is for reasons of heat dissipation. -
With all the different sources... It's pretty much confirmed!indtail said: ↑Yep its on 26th. I asked the manager in a dell showroomClick to expand...

Hi Bill, if a product similar to that being discussed in this thread were to exist with a GT 650M GPU, yes I could absolutely see it eating into the sales of something like the M14x.
However I don't see a sub 15" gaming offering from Dell with a 1920x1200 display and under 1" thick. There are a lot of folks who also don't enjoy the in-your-face gaming-rig designs. Two questions for you, one related and one not related.
One, if a product similar to that being discussed here were to exist, do you think that in light of the Retina Macbook Pro, we might see a future upgrade option to a GT 650M?
Two, this is more of a favour. Could you ask/push the Alienware design team to put a 1920x1200 display into the M14x. Please!!!
