Delurking from the 281 page roller coaster ride: The price is only $50 above the Best Buy price listed back on page 249. Now Dell may be discounting it further when it comes out. I haven't received any EPP emails on it yet whereas I did get emails for the inspirons.

LOL at the Amazon specs. You'd need a cart to carry it around.

Well Dell does have the $200 gc back for students like me. So it'll be cheaper.

Hopefully the gc promo applies here. If not then I would be so disappointed and mad with dell

Uhm, I'm a little worried for price.
Maybe 3612QM+640m+8GB can go over 1500€...

Thx!! I'm still looking for a rear (as in rear, not back!) picture of the machine when closed! It would be awesome to see a Hi-Res version of the back of the computer.

I was wondering if anyone had enough experience with the 640M to tell me if with overclocking it can match the HP envy's 7750 in performance. That's the last thing preventing me from committing to the xps. It's really really too bad they didn't put in a 650M.....

Great pics. Where were these from? They look like those will be the ones used on the Dell website. The only thing putting me off was the weight but the design is just so nice that I can live with it.

Is that an LED light on the front? Is that a charge indicator or something? Sorry if that has been asked.

Btw, I know the XPS 14 will have 1600x900 display but does anyone think there may be a 1080p option?

Even though there have been so many leaks, for some reason I still feel like there is going to be some surprises come launch day.

Hey, just asking, if Dell doesnt offer R+BG screen, do you think it is feasible to swap the screen ourselves like ppl. did for old XPS 15? I know L521x using edge to edge Gorillas glass, will this make that more difficult? Just want to know what you guys think....

Although I think the Dell is a sexy machine...the late release date, high speculated price, and 640m made me go with the Envy 15.

    For $1422 I got:

Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    • 3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3610QM Processor (2.3 GHz, 6MB L3 Cache)
    • 1GB Radeon(TM) HD 7750M GDDR5 Graphics [HDMI, VGA]
    • 8GB 1600DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
    • 256GB Solid State Drive
    • Microsoft(R) Office Starter: reduced-functionality Word/Excel(R) only, No PowerPoint(R)/Outlook(R)
    • FREE 2-year Norton Internet Security subscription (a $99 value). Pre-installed.
    • 8 Cell Lithium Ion Battery - Up to 10.25 hours of battery life +++
    • 15.6-inch diagonal Radiance Full HD Infinity LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    • SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
    • 720p HD video streaming webcam supports Skype
    • Intel 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN and Bluetooth(R) with Wireless Display Support
    • Full-size Radiance backlit keyboard
    • Adobe(R) Photoshop(R) Elements 10 & Adobe Premiere(R) Elements 10
    • 2 year limited warranty included
    • HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

It's a really hard deal to beat.

EDIT: This includes tax, and shipping by the way.

    It looks all right but:

    - I don't like places of different ports (too close to the front and on the right side (speakers and microfone) - it's the worst place for me))

    - where is space for air form the vent? I can't see them on neither side and it wouldn't be good to have them on the botton. There is one place left - back, and this really didn't work on XPS 1645/47..

    - also I don't see speakers grill. Hopefully it's not on the bottom..

The barrel power jack is a weird choice considering it breaks up the left surface a lot. It would have been nice for them to have a smaller adapter, but I understand that they want people to be able to use older or generic AC adapters

i dont mind the ports i just wanted a usb on the right side as im accustomed to 4 usb's

vents are on the front and back of the system just under the silver rim where the bottom curves before becoming flat are the vents both back and front. there is most likely a vent by the display hinge

speakers are to the bottom where the front vents are that what we speculate and was confirmed by some one who beta tested the system .......... so yea its on the bottom -_-

one thing i dont like with this system is the space on the keyboard they should have put a number pad or speaker grills

and the lack of 4th usb other than that i love the design and will ingore those two design flaws imo

No doubt this seems to be it's direct competitor, not the Mac and the Envy seems to be very competitive too.

I think for the first time Dell has managed to take the lead over Apple design-wise.

Did you guys see the Retina article posted today?
Apple MacBook Pro with Retina Display First Look

I'm a little underwhelmed and I also laughed seeing them copy the XPS speakers on the sides  I guess they are allowed since everybody copies them.

I called Amazon and spoke with a rep. He stated that the delay is because of a hard drive shortage by Seagate overseas. There was a flood, which cut production by 50 percent. He also stated that is why the price is climbing. There is not definite date for the release on there end.

yea see that's y computer production plants and pc components plants should not be in areas like china that are prone to this kinds of conditions they know they get monsoons and tsunamis build your plants higher off the ground and better equipped to handle it or have other plants in places like the Caribbean there are two seasons to deal with rainy and dry season + you have a large willing workforce that's untapped

Dell tend to offer heavy discounts even within the first month as with the xps 13 and this is in the UK, so I'd imagine that the us would get even better deals.

Quick question, are there any 14inch 1080p panels for laptops?

No bias for your current location, right :)
I'd say if they just located in a desert they'd only have one season to worry about: Sandy.

On a more serious note though, I think most of the analysts said the current HDD prices would remain inflated until into the 2014-15 range, even though most of the factories will be back to capacity within the year (if they aren't already, I don't remember when they were expected to be at full operation.) The crazy prices incentivized me to put Samsung 830s into my laptop and gaming desktop and Crucial M4s into my old laptop, our server, and the HTPC. 64GB M4's are painfully cheap for OS drives and a 120GB Samsung 830 is large/fast enough for my laptop/gaming needs. Plus, now I've centralized all my data onto my server which has made my life much easier from a data redundancy standpoint. The old HDDs went into the server pool and the storage space should last me until either SSD $/GB comes down more or HDD prices settle back down pre-flood.

I know, I was joking. Sandstorms would be pretty rough on the bearings... literally and figuratively. Wouldn't the Caribbean have issues with hurricanes/humidity? I have no first hand experience (only been to Cancun), but it seems like there's at least one pretty big hurricane that rolls through there every year.

Best Buy and other leaked dell sources. On the leaked ad by best buy they included all of the correct specs and they all made sense too unlike amazon saying it had a 7200rpm SSD lol. So I'm
Going to trust best buy's price too. It sounds reasonable as well. Theyre not ging to charge $1100+ for a 14" laptop with those specs. We're trying to BEAT apples prices not match them.

Well.. than I have to say I don't like it..

    - speakers on the bottom - it's very unlikely that sound quality will be good. And considering how it was in the previous model (l502x) it can be a big step back..

    - vents on the front? So the warm (hot?) air will be going right at user? That is really strange and I have some bad feelings about it..

I don't like to judge something before I see it but based on these pictures and some information writen before I start to doubt if this model can be consider a real succesor of xps series (like xps 1645/47 and l502x/702x) - mostly in terms of multimedia. But hopefully I'm wrong :)

(I'm not going to buy it anyway - I'm a happy owner of l702x for only few weeks and so far I'm really happy with it - and I definatelly prefer its ports configuration and general ergonomic).

Maybe Skareem is right but I have an extremely hard time believing that they'd put the vents on the front where hot air blows at the user and speakers on the bottom to be muffled by a desk or lap? I mean...c'mon do we really think dell is that dumb?

no the vents at the front are for the speakers and to pull air in from the fron then expel it at the back im assuming air will pass through the front blow over the battery, mother board and other hot components like the HDD then through the fan and heat sync out the back
