Guess you'll have to join the crowd here. :) ;)

Can't say anything specific to the supposed systems speculated about here, but in general, the time retailers put a particular PC depends a lot on how many they think they can sell, ie, how much interest and buzz there is about a product. Draw conclusions from there.
I have no idea on India. Your best bet I can think of is to call sales on launch day and see if they have a student discount. However, that's probably about the worst advice I could give anyone. Sorry about that.
Followed back. Thanks for the follow.
I kind of like this Rezound. Nice screen. 1.5 dual core. Came with free Beats earbuds. $100 cheaper than the Razr Max. It's pretty bulky, though. I don't mind that so much, but it's definitely more hefty than my Fascinate. I put that down to it being an earlier LTE model, and the radio they used was probably bigger/thicker than the newer ones.
What bugs me the most is the stupid VZ media back up app. I need to take the time to fiddle with it and get it off there, but since I plan on rooting some CM ICS on it anyway, I haven't wasted any time on it.

Also, oh man, Bill, NEVER use any of verizon's apps. :) Get a more pure version of android OS on that phone asap !

Thanks! Hopefully they will carry them unless Dell will offer pre-built models ready to be shipped within 24 hours ;)

I'm guessing most of the XPS 15 and 14s will ship fast. Dell seems to have learned fast product delivery is important to customers and could drive customers to competitors. Dell seems to be reducing customizing to enable faster delivery. What we've been led to believe so far is there will be few pre selected options. I'm guessing delivery will be faster than most of their previous products.

Yeah. I hope Best Buy gets them since I have a few gift cards to get rid of and be able to pick it up the same day.

The only thing I can see saving me money is removing the blu-ray drive and no msata.

I'm going to use my old SSD and remove the dvd-rw drive and put in the hard drive there.

The highest model Best Buy carried had a 32gb msata and blu-ray drive. Maybe I can part and sell them.

From the XPS 13, I hope the back panel will be a single piece and easy to remove. The XPS 15Z was a nightmare but doable.

Easy you just open it up from the bottom and the slot load should pop right out, then you just cover the hole with some electrical tape and pop an hdd int here and you have two hdd bays and a msata slot

Well it's not exactly like that. You still need to get a HD ODD bay to put the HD in.

The pictures looked like they had the perimeter phillips screws like the XPS 13, with the metal plate in the center, so I'd bet it'll be the same scenario. My old Inspiron killed me everytime I had to work on it and now my Latitude only takes one screw to access the whole underside. I suppose I can live with ~10 screws to take the bottom off.

Does anyone here have any idea about iRST vs. using the SSD and HDD separately?

IE: using it separately would be installing the OS and all programs to the SSD and all files, documents and pictures onto the HDD. What would be the difference between that and using iRST?

Umm well the 640M LE is just an underclocked 640M... so I don't know why that would be true. The representative told me it was definitely DDR5.

Edit: At least I think it is. Anandtech makes me maybe sad. I'll talk to a Vizio rep again.

    @Bill

WHY NO CARBON FIBER BOTTOM :( . If the photos on that ultrabook site are real that is. I'm sure its a cost thing but i just wanted to complain. Maybe for future laptops you can add that to the large list of consumer wants.

640m is a good step up more pipes and greater clockspeed not to mention ddr5 (i assume it will use ddr5 and not the old ddr3)

So basically iRST is half as fast as an SSD by itself.

What about the improvement on documents not stored on the SSD that would be achieved using iRST?
IE: How much faster is accessing documents using iRST than separately?

OMG I love that song!!! :D You are amazing!! I assume that means they are on their way over the seas :p

Okay--as long as I can boost up the SSD size a little I'll be happy :) (And the price isn't too high :S )

Yeah, Nvidia and Vizio say that it's DDR3/DDR5 so I'm willing to believe the Rep was telling the truth. If it's DDR5 then the Vizio is a very attractive buy. Bill, do you think the XPS might provide something attractive versus the Vizio computer w/ a 1080P IPS screen, i5-3210m, GT640M LE for 1050$? Or that with an i7 3612QM and a 32gb ssd cache for 1200?

HTC Sense 4 has gotten a little better and less resource intensive but some of its icons are ugly! Motorola ICS on the other hand has gotten a lot prettier than blur. It's almost stock now!

Only recognized him because Dalingrin likes to use the same username like me. I'm xnap30 on rootzwiki too :)

Yeah I'm not much of a tablet person either, I still need a keyboard. Probably going to get a bluetooth one to pair.
I love CM9 on my touchpad though. Got to thank Dalingrin and the wonderful CM team. The only major bug now is the camera. Mic got fixed this month. I can't wait for the camera and the linux 3.+ kernal!
When that happens, everything I had from WebOS would be complete and a lot better too. More apps and more themes! :) Even got the WebCM9 app switcher mod on CM9, so close to having the complete deal.

Bill, are you rooted yet? If you aren't, do so. Then install Titanium backup. That app can help you uninstall the stupid verizon bloat and some other bloat. Just don't uninstall anything important. Let me know if you need more help. I can help you or point you in the right place.

I got all my bloat off my phone and it runs so much smoother. That verizon bloatware sucks. Also your rezound is a pretty great phone. It's global too even though verizon hasn't marketed as global capable.

Came to the same conclusion. It's on a boat!

Let's see.. Today is Friday. It's on a boat in the Pacific, gets here on Monday (hopefully), sits a day in the docks before getting trucked (Tuesday). Release/confirmation on Tuesday. Arrival at distribution centers on Wednesday. Shipped out Thursday and arrive same day or on Friday?
Assuming everything goes right and Dell works fast...

Wrong. The 640M LE is a 28nm Fermi part. The 640M is 28nm Kepler.

Three quick ship options? And there will also be customization options?

Really? So anandtech and all the other sites are wrong? The 630M is the one thats a 28nm Fermi or 40 nm Fermi. The 640M's are all 28nm Kepler, and the 640M LE is available as 28nm Kepler or 40nm Fermi

Er, I'm sorry, and I don't mean to sound condescending, but that's not true?

    Proof #1: GeForce GT 640M LE | Features | GeForce Supports Pci-e 3.0

Proof #2: AnandTech - NVIDIA's GeForce 600M Series: Mobile Kepler and Fermi Die Shrinks There IS rebranded fermi, but definitely kepler as well...

Proof #3: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M LE - Notebookcheck.net Tech Again, kepler. The 640M LE is an underclocked 640M, (Or rebranded 555M)

Plus, Vizio telling me it's Kepler. And countless other tech sites.

Apologies to all. Apparently NVIDIA went and introduced a Kepler variant. I was going off an old-ish Anand/Bit-tech (can't remember which) article which listed the LE as Fermi only.

To be fair, Nvidia will not say which models ship with Kelper or Fermi.

The only way to get 100% confirmation is run GPU-Z. Calling them will not be 100% correct...

Well, calling Nvidia is certainly not the right way to do it, but the way I figure, all you need to do is talk with a rep, and if they confirm Kepler, don't worry about buying it. If you buy it and it's Fermi, return it on the grounds of your chat log with the Rep. I have two or three emails both showing this, so if I got the Vizio and it wasn't Kepler, I could return it I imagine.

    And no problem, ^.^

Edit: The same is probably true with Dell's stuff. If you had to get the 630M, which is supposed to be a 28nm part, and it came in 40nm, you could probably return it no problem.

I'm still holding off on everything until I see the XPS. I'm hoping for sub 1100$ starting point, which would probably sway me over the vizio, otherwise I would have to compare the weaker (and less expensive, but probably better built) vostro with the Vizio.

I'm kind of regretting my XPS 15 I bought two and a half months ago, especially because I didn't get it with the 1080p screen. I thought the touchscreen would be a good idea because of Windows 8 but it's having a weird issue where when I'm not touching anything, it'll register a bunch of touches on the screen. Really annoying and I had to disable it. Dell was supposed to call me this week but hasn't yet, so I'll have to give them a call. And now the 1080p screen is gone =(

You could purchase a 1080p screen on amazon from east coast LCDs. Thats where I bought my replacement panel from for $80. The only downside is it is not B+RGLED. You also get a warranty with the screen as well.

As a general rule, it isn't a good idea to base your satisfaction on whether or not technology fails to march forward. Otherwise, you'll be stuck generally paying more and perhaps buying things earlier than you need in order to give enough buffer room between the date of purchase and the release of new models. For most people, that's not a cost-effective model of purchasing :)

Secondly, as has been reiterated several times in this thread, no XPS 17 is rumored or has been announced in any capacity. It appears as though the Inspiron 17R SE is filling that slot (for now, anyhow; perhaps indefinitely).

17" laptop are going out of style i think
mac book pro 17 gone XPS 17 gone ... Lenovo never made a Y780

17" laptops are only bought by a small number of people just like s small number of ppl like number-pad in a 15" laptop AKA not enough sales to warrant the development and production cost of a 17 XPS ..... sorry to say 17" and 15" laptops both have 1080p options so y have it ?? the masses want portability now but i would have liked to see how the 17XPS would have looked and i bet it would have had a sub-woofer the inspiron 17 SE seems like a good machine though

So, are we pretty sure the new panel will be 72% aRGB/100% sRGB or something else on gamut? Wondering if the panel will be at all appropriate for basic photo work (assuming you can calibrate it).

I have no doubt the 13 will be refreshed with IVB somewhere down the line, if not in the next few weeks. I think it was there to show the XPS line-up in full and a size comparison to the newer models.

But c'mon... does that 13 really get you as excited as seeing those other two bad boys all ready to take on the world? :p

I don't know how many nits the XPS 15 is going to have, but that screen is blazing like a supernova in both photos with the visible screen, at least much brighter than the 14. That's at least 350 -- I don't care what Best Buy had on their spec sheet -- I think 300 or so.

yes there will be a refresh of the XPS 13 ub .... and my guess is they will begin offering a 1600 x 900 display option or get a better display for it because other ultra-books offer better resolution at the same price point dell needs to step up the XPS 13 a bit

Fingers crossed. Although on second glance, that one photo with the overexposed brightness may very well be the camera flash reflecting off the screen, even at that angle. Look at the bright flash circle on the photo immediately below it. I'm betting 350 or 400. Either way, it'll better than the L502x's.
