Good man, many thanks.

Does anyone have confirmation that customization will be available in the US? The new Inspirons can't be customized and I was under the impression that the XPS would be the same.
-
Exactly what I am thinking about. It seems to me Dell's moving away from the customisable-machines business model?
-
Nothing has been confirmed, but there still is more customization available in the US than any other country offering Dell products, thats what I was trying to get at.
-
But we're just a little North of the US!!!!
EDIT: Yea... there better be a little customization -
Prices are wayyyy too high....
Gosh i m disapointed !!!
i think i will pick one of the older 2nd gen XPS with i7+SSD for half of the prices of the new models (in regards with currency conversions, the prices are insane) ! -
do not do straight currency conversion, it does not work this way
-
In case of 16GB RAM looks like Corsair kit is the best value. You can get it for less than £100 in the UK and is CL10 so better than Samsung CL11 Dell use as an option on XPS27
-
The inspiron 14z is still billed as an ultrabook but runs the 1600 MHz. Is there really that much of a difference in power draw between 1333 and 1600 MHz RAM?
-
Don't worry. Canada has the best chance of matching the US with customization offers more than and other country simply because you're neighboring us. You could also always just order your laptop on the US dell website and have it sent to a friends house if you have one in the country and they could ship it to ya. surely that would work ?
-
Yea... my uncle lives there and we visit him often. Taxes and duty would be killer though!!!
-
what state is he in?
-
Unless you live in Australia or New Zealand you really shouldn't be worrying about the astronomically high prices.
-
Hey dude !
I know how it works ....
You have to subtract 400 US $ to get the price for the US (though you might get better deals on best buy, at the end you ALWAYS get better options and discount in the USA that's true!), and approx. 300 to get the price for the EU in uro with always less option than in the US...
Been in Aussie last year, and as a matter of fact every piece of computer/electronic is much more expensive than anywhere else in the wold. (except that, I loved it there!). -
He is in Washington.
The only thing I am concerned about would be the mSATA upgrade; CPU, RAM, GPU, etc all look awesome to me.
There are a few places online you can get them so I suppose I could always upgrade afterwards for $100 or so... But then I'm left with a 32GB mSATA I'll never use!! -
If you ordered your laptop to his house, your tax would only charge you an extra $65. I think that'd be worth it depending on what you end up being able to customize.
-
Wow feel really let down by the pricing, what is dell thinking!? And I know well Dell will SCREW over us in the UK with not even a reasonable conversion, been in this thread for months now waiting, what BS. And to add to that, Dell have no Uni discounts here.
Majorly disappointed. -
Just comparing high-end Inspiron SE prices beetwen Dell USA, DELL Italy, DELL Germany.
USA: 1238,99 - 139 (special discount, dunno why/what) = 1099,99 $
ITALY: 999,46 euro (no special discount).
GERMANY: 899 euro (but i don't see any 32GB mSATA! )
Apart the 99,99999 fest, what i can see is that if we don't consider the special discount in USA, the conversion in this case is very fair, no additional cost in our fragile Euroland -
Where did you get that number from?
I was looking at the Canadian Border site and it comes up with 7% duty plus PST/GST. For BC that's 12% which comes to %19 total but that's not even including WA taxes.
The base model looks to be around $1200 so %19 comes up to $228 extra. -
Not Skull Candy. I think I hinted at that at some point, and if I did, I was wrong. Only post I'm answering at the moment. Still very busy, but I saw that one on email notification, so I grabbed it.
Sorry if that caused any confusion. -
Not necessarily true...i think TDP is mostly theorical
Anyway, there is any news about JBL speakers? Are they still present? -
hmmn that means 2w x2 JBL
-
Im just talking about sales tax. Washington sales tax is 6.5%. Add that $65 to the rest of the fees youre talking about and see if it'd be worth spending the extra for more customization. I'd advise you to just buy it in Canada and then purchase Crucial RAM for cheap off Amazon and upgrade stuff yourself.
-
Well two things cause this, neither of which are really dell's fault. One) Dell is a US based company, so obviously prices here might be easier due to not being subject to importing and stuff. (Kind of speculating, I guess their factories are probably in Asia anyways?)
2) (I think) due to the way that y'all/most european economies work, you have to deal with significantly higher taxes plainly just because of how europe works. I believe that leads to y'all paying less on other stuff that Americans have to pay more on, so maybe it all balances out
before you get angry at other prices, make sure americans aren't vastly overpaying on something else compared to europeans.
I am no econ major though. Everything I just said could be completely wrong. But as somebody else apparently just pointed out, prices on the 15R SE seem reasonable. -
Yea, that's my plan at the moment!
BILL!! You're killing us! -
L521x also just released in Japan. As I expected the price is expensive
New XPS 15
I think I want to pick up the new “normal” Macbook Pro. The price range is almost same
We dont get Ivy Brigde HP Envy 15 in Japan yet, but judging from old Sandy Brigde version, IB refresh will be way cheaper than L521x. -
Is this it?
XPS 15
And when can we expect a Canadian release? On the Dell.ca website? -
Hey guys it was fun lurking in the thread but I am getting the vizio 15 6 thin n light. It looks too sweet. Dell it was fun.....
-
Australia, Japan so it's going like the time zones.
-
From a previous investigation that I do when I was interested on L502x best price Europe country to buy an L502x was
1) Germany
2) Austria
3) Italy
4) UK
...
Worst place absolutely is France

gt 640m gddr5 performance will be interesting.
-
How does the GT 640M's performance compare to that of the integrated Intel HD 4000 Ivy Bridge graphics?
-
should be twice as fast on synthetic benchmarks and 3x better at gaming at least.
-
It performs worse, they decided to load it for the lulz.
-
Yes but every Country has a different keyboard layout unfortunately, and this time it seems that the holes for the keys are punched right on the main palmrest/up cover, so to change keyboard layout from US to Italy you've to replace also the top cover...
-
I've looked at the pricing for the XPS 13 Ultrabook on the Australian website and put it next to the one on the US website.
It seems that AUS is putting the XPS device $300 more than US. -
AUS: 1298 $
pretty similar to the USA one.
Mala tempora currunt
-
Prices are scary!!!

For a 2,500 AUS$ computer i really do think DELL could have give away the CDROM media for FREE....and not charge it for additional 2,2$ EXTRA $$$ !
Seriously Dell ? -
For prices I can say...after Apple now even Dell. Good. This suggests how the market is going.
-
Don't, the 1080p screen isn't available for the L502X anymore. Just get something cheaper from another manufacturer, or something from the Inspiron line.
-
You should check out the CN15-A2 as well. That's currently my top choice, unless Dell completely surprises me tomorrow.
-
I hope they won't place the basic i5 model in Europe at 1200€ or so...
Damn, 1500€ for a laptop is a LOT of money! They ended up removing the Studio line that was the perfect compromise, and now the Inspiron are "bulky" and "plasticky" in comparison, but they will cost 1000€ and more... I'm not sure I want to open Dell.it site tomorrow morning
EDIT: Why the electronics in general are going to be more economical as the time passes, and in two years a simil-spec'ed laptop will cost 400€ more?!?
I recall I configured a Studio two years ago, w FullHD, i7 quad and 4gb ram, it ended up about 900€
A L502x ended up 1100€ with the same component level
Following that trend, the L521x w/ FullHD, i7-36xxQM 8GB ram will end up to 1300-1400€... damn, 1.5 times the old Studio!!! -
Yeah, I was hoping that the XPS 14 would be able to lure me away from the UX32VD but with it weighing half a kg and change more, being barely faster, having a screen with worse color reproduction (this may be unfounded, but I don't know of any current laptops that can hit nearly 100% of sRGB), and costing nearly as much? I may spring for the Asus after all...
-
Asus in my experience have a very bad blue bias to their lcd, I would advise against.
-
Does anyone know how much of a discount one could expect if purchased through a university/college that has a special arrangement with Dell?
-
Unfortunately everything you just said is completely wrong. Take anything: gas, cars, electronics or just about anything and you'll notice it's cheaper to way cheaper in the US.
-
Until now I don't see any possibility to customize msata SSD only 32GB version is present in combination with HDD and it's not possible to remove it.
Instead only 512 SSD can replace HDD.
Does Dell thinks seriously that those will be the more required configurations?

The Muffin Man Notebook Consultant
Yeah, this had better be an initial offering with more customizability to come later on. It can't be a $115 option with 750GB+32GB SSD or an $850 option for the 512GB SSD. That's just unacceptable. There has to be an in between -- I don't care what's not user-replaceable or custom-made for Dell due to the new size/configuration of the XPS chassis. -
The conversion is the same but AU units are priced higher because of the location of Australia and the availability. The US ones will be priced 3-400 dollars cheaper
