Yup, but pretty much no one implements it on the hardware side. Meaning you can't actually use it...

They actually are. Clevo is using Optimus for a lot of their 600 series laptops, which they historically haven't done, so I'd say your chances are pretty good.

Odds are, the XPS 17 will be getting a 650M at most. The M17x ships by default with a 660M, and usually the XPS' highest level card is one below this, so it makes sense. I just hope it keeps the matte screen and good speakers and doesn't go the Macbook route...

I wouldn't mind a mac like design, if the mac had a windows version, I probably would have gotten that by now. I am not an apple fan, but I really like their design.

The GTX 660m chips are binned better than the GT 650m and GT 640m chips. Though they share the same GK107 core, the GTX 660m should achieve higher clocks GT 650m, which justifies the GTX branding as an "enthusiast" chip. The difference between the GTX 660m and GT 650m probably won't be all that significant, though.

    Those are rumors

HP has released DV6/DV7 with Ivy Bridge & new GPU's. So, Dell should not take too long from now.

    Here is HP link.

Today's press release was useless. I thought they were going to announce updates to the XPS line but instead it was just the Alienware lineup. Seriously how many people buy Alienware compared to the XPS lineup. All the mid to high end i7 and i5 chips are available now for the XPS lineup so there should be no excuse.

Hopefully Dell releases the XPS refresh lineup in the next 2 weeks.

i think the xps design was being overhauled. which taking more time to wait. did u see any changes on alienware design. i guess no. since it just added with 4 usb 3.0 and no change in lid and finish. so that's why xps get special treatment for this. since most xps is multimedia and not as high end as alienware. dell try to make xps attractive so can compete with alienware sales. that's my opinion. hehe

anyway i just got email from dell chief blogger, Lionel Menchaca says:

    Hey Prof.Dre:

Know you’ve been waiting for a while. Can’t give you specifics on timing, but there are a couple of new XPS laptops that are coming in a matter of weeks. In my personal opinion, these options are worth waiting a bit longer for.

    Sincerely,

    Lionel

I just hope the XPS 17 doesn't go the XPS 15 route where the laptop is getting thinner and compromises it by removing the JBL subwoofer and ports in the back and who knows about removable battery or not. It just looks like the XPS 15 is trying to look like a MBP.

I actually like the current XPS 17 L702X design except the front speaker placement. If all they do in the L721X is move the front speakers to a more desirable location, then I would love it even more. All I really want Dell to do just put an Ivy Bridge processor, Geforce GT 650M graphics and the option for the Intel Wireless-N 6235 wireless card.

Just received a tweet back from @BillatDell and it looks like XPS laptop refreshes aren't coming until sometime in June =(.

@BillatDell Is the Dell press release on Monday morning going to cover information on the refresh of the 15 and 17 in XPS laptops?

@erichchan3 No. That will come in June sometime. Dates are fluid at this point, so I can't even give you a hint other than "June"

I think in term of speaker quality they used same brand but xps is more powerful than samsung if I could say. Hhe
And also the performance dell are much better than samsung since samsung are specialize in mobile phone instead of laptop

The Samsung Series 7 17.3" has the i7-3615QM and the GT 650m w/ GDDR5. The XPS 17 refresh will probably have very similar specs. Build quality of both laptops will probably be similar as well.
The Inspiron refresh is already up on Dell's AU site and probably will be released very soon. I doubt that an XPS manual will be leaked anytime soon since it's slated for a later release, though a leak would be nice.

We all hate the wait game. I hear you there!

Imagine those of use that were waiting since December 2010 for the Sandy Bridge systems that were announced then and at CES 2011. They were to be available at the beginning of February, but at the last minute (I mean literally a couple days before they were supposed to be able to be purchased) there was a 2-month delay due to the chipset issue...

He had the i7 non-3D. The only difference with 3D vs non though is that the GPU is on 24/7 with the 3D-only system. Doesn't change the temperatures under load. Which aren't an issue with the current gen (mine are within reason too).

FWIW, Dell-Bill in the 521x thread said mid-summer and commented that he considered us in early summer right now (hot in Texas :D). Most things point toward late June/Early July right now. Still a bit of time out there, but still well in time for returning to school, which Dell (and Intel as they are the real hold-up) will definitely be wanting to be full in production for.
