I ordered XPS 17 on 26/11/2010, estimated delivery date changed to 20/01/2011. Unbelievable...
-
Works great. Be sure to use the Win7 compatible file "ABRbeta.exe"
PS. Of course the WIN7 versions need to match. -
maybe i was lucky but my XPS 15 arrived today... i ordered it in november 27 so it didn't take long... i haven't checked if it's fine as i haven't gone to where it arrived but hopefully it is... the EDD was set on the 23d so it definitely arrived early...
i got a 1080p screen too so i don't see why that should be a problem... -

I received mine yesterday (order it October 20) and after all the delays and I believe I have a good laptop. I just don't think all the trouble was worth it, so as I called Dell to file a complain. The told me that on their screens everything was fine, but I tried to explain them that it was not normal all the trouble I went with my order. Also said to them that probably that would be my last order with Dell and wouldn't recommend them to other people.
After that the person I was talking to told me that nothing was going to happen with my complain and that I could do whatever I want!?
So.. a really bad experience with a really nice laptop. -
O M F G !!!!!!!! -
The XPS series was released on 10/21. How could you order it before its release?
-
Give or take a day it was almost 2 months after I order it. -
I ordered my XPS 15 on Dec. 4 with the FHD 1080p screen and got it today, Dec. 15. I did send an email or two asking about it but I just got automated responses. Maybe I was just lucky.

I should be working on mine right now....BUT, I'M NOT!
Order date: Nov 18
Dell emailed that it was shipped on Nov 27
Due to arrive Dec 16....
Dell Lost it, then lied about it in several emails to me.
A Dell CSR in India claimed it was coming from the USA on its way to Canada.
She said it had shipped on Nov 29.
On Dec9, Dell.india emailed that it was being shipped with Purolator (in the USA) and it would be in Canada in 2-3 business days.
Dell.india then sent a "fake tracking number" to me which Purolator doesn't even have in their system. Yes, I phoned three times and triple checked the tracking number.
Purolator only operates in Canada and a subsequent call to Dell.india provided no answers as to who the shipping company was in the USA.
Finally, many calls later a CSR actually admitted that they had no idea where the package was - and when it might arrive. It seemed to have just dropped off the radar.
Today, Dell graciously offered to ship a "replacement" - which would arrive 'who knows when' - maybe 2012 if I'm lucky.
I wonder what route Dell chose to ship my XPS15?
How could they lose it?
Is someone working for their US shipping company going to be slipping a "hot" XPS 15 under the tree?
For all I know, Dell doesn't even employ anyone in Canada that works for Dell.ca. The last Dell CSR to call me from India told me that Dell Canada doesn't have any CSR's in Canada.
Gotta' love Dell.india emails that always use expressions like, " I understand, I apologize, please feel free to revert, I regret, I sincerely apologize".....
often followed by the mandatory, " Customers are our top priority and we are committed to them"....or..." We value you as a customer and your satisfaction is important to us".
Really????? Then why does Dell treat so many of its customers like crap?
If Dell screws up an order, they should simply be honest about the mistake, knock 30% off the price, deliver the goods and take the hit.
After all, computers begin to depreciate the minute you order them - and Dell's abysmal shipping record (as noted here and in other posts) is becoming a horror show in itself.
There's gotta' be some anonymous Dell VP laughing in his egg nog at all the dumb boffos who've bought XPS's and have been stiffed by Dell - and offered no compensation.
He'll still get his huge "year-end bonus", and the the poor CSR's at Dell.india get to take the heat from a wave of PO'd former Dell customers.
What a sham! -
Just got my XPS 15!
FHD B+RGLED, i5-460m, 4gb, 500gb 7200rpm, GT420m, 6-cell, BluRay, BT 3, 6200n, backlit KB
In US, ordered through EPP on 11/29
EDD was 12/23
Was listed as In Production mid-day 12/13, but they didn't change the status because next thing I know it was on a truck for delivery 12/15.
So far very impressed with the laptop, can find no problems (yet). The FHD screen is awesome! -
Ordered an XPS 17 on 12/7/2010.
Order originally had an expected delivery date of 12/23/2010.
This morning I received a vague email saying my order will be delayed. It says I will receive a second email with more details on the delay and a new expected delivery date.
I go to check the status on the Dell site and it shows a delivery date of 12/21/2010. It appears my expected delivery date has changed and I am to receive my order earlier than stated. But I received the email this morning notifiying me of a delay so I'm not sure which to believe.
I call order support and the rep assures me that my order is arriving on 12/21/2010 and to ignore the email. This seems somewhat suspicious and I'm not sure which to believe.
I also used the free ground 5-7 day shipping option when I created the order. For my order to even arrive on 12/21/2010 it would have had to have shipped already, however it's status currently shows "In production"
Has anyone ever experienced this? -
If you're in the US, try calling 1-800-433-9014. I found that they updated the status on the automated phone service before they did their website.
-
It finally arrived yesterday, original EDD was 12/7. It seems like four weeks is usual around here.
-
Does anyone know how long custom clearance usually take?
Country and time length would be appreciatedThanks
-
At first I thought the screen might be the culprit since I opted for the full HD - which has since been pulled from the Canadian site - but others upthread have had their systems ship out on time. So, who knows.
Sigh. Guess I'll wait for the EDD to come (and go...) before I officially get impatient -
So I received the second email this morning telling me my revised EDD.
My new EDD is 12/28, previously it was 12/21, and originally 12/23.
Seems odd for an EDD to change to an earlier date than the original and then to a later date than the original.
Oh well, will just cross my fingers for the 28th and cancel if it doesn't happen.
-
hahahaha.......my EDD just went from 28.12.10 to 01.02.2011 (February)....
I would love to have this notebook but now I'm thinking of canceling my order... does anyone know a good alternative? <.<
btw: Germany..... -
Called again today, and got the "it's an incredibly popular system" script this time. The CSR said it's "in production" but "marked as delayed" in their system, which sounds like they haven't even started building it yet, and gave a new EDD of 01/11/11 (still says 12/24/2010 on my end, though).
There was no email or phonecall from them indicating that it had officially been pushed back like they'd claimed there would be. Disappointing. It's really the least they could do
If it's delayed again (assuming they actually inform me of it this time, of course) I'll probably just cancel. The XPS sure is a nice system, but since I'm stuck with a dying 6-year-old HP desktop in the meantime...it's becoming increasingly difficult to justify the nearly two month wait much longer.
On the plus side, the CSR was very pleasant and actually proficient in English -
Cant wait
-
I got tired of the waiting game and excuses. I just cancelled mine. The first person I spoke to said he couldn't cancel the order because the system was down. I asked for a supervisor. He said there was no supervisor, at which point I got very nasty with him and said if the order is not cancelled, my lawyer would be calling. He swithced me to some area called "Sales Resolution Specialists" - a woman with a thick Hispanic accent got on the phone. I was relieved, at least I was not talking to India. She was very pleasant, and immediately cancelled my order.
When I verified the order was cancelled and the credit was back in my Dell Preferred account, I immediately ordered the ASUS G73JW ROC Limited Edition. I7 740 1.73G, 2 x 500 GB HD, 16GB 1333 RAM, 17" Full HD 1920 x 1080 display, Blu Ray BURNER - nice cooling out of the back, very quiet and cool, and a real pleasure to look at. It came with a backpack and a laser gaming mouse.
I ordered it Monday morning and had it Tuesday morning with $3.99 one day shipping. All for close to $1,000 less then the XPS17 - PLUS, it comes with a free one year accidental damage warranty in addition to the standard warranty. This machine is really great. I'm a bit disappointed in the sound as it's not as good as others have said, but otherwise, this is a premium piece of gear. I am glad Dell screwed up.
I'm done with DELL for good now. -
Also the Asus is butt-ugly though. If it wasn't, I'd buy it as well.
-
Finally got the notification saying my order was 'indefinitely' delayed today...then 7 hours later, got another email saying it's been shipped. I give up trying to make sense of their ridiculous order status system, haha, but I'm pumped!
-
I Ordered the XPS 17 in October 2010 and was told it would be delivered in 14days. 14 days later nothing had arrived. Called Dell and they said it would be one more week. One week later nothing had arrived. Called Dell they said they had a problem with the Intergrated TV Tuner and that if I would accept an external device that Delivery would be Gauranteed before Christmas 2010...so I did. Christmas came around and suprise suprise no laptop. Called Dell they recommended me to Cancel the order completely for a full refund as they could not communicate a delivery date. The thing which really boils my blood is that they had $2400 of mine just sitting in their accounts for over two months...0 compensation 0 service Dell really is Hell!!
