Don't know how much time i will have over the next two days so may only get to play with it over the weekend! -
Just got off the phone with Dell... The website kept saying that it was shipped on 11/18 but it kept giving me NA for a shipping number with fedex... I called Dell several times and I either got disconnected or the order support dept. Kept saying it was closed and to call back during regular business hours. It was a little after 1 eastern time, which was just under an hour ago... So finally i got through to one person who told me the order was cancelled and he transferred me over to accounts department to get a credit back to my preferred account. When i spoke to her she told me it wasn't cancelled and that it was still being processed. She then transferred me over the order modification dept. The man there told me it was shipped... Ok, then what is the tracking number? He tells me it is waiting to be picked up by fedex. So I repeat what he said to me and I asked for clarification, so this order is still sitting in the warehouse waiting to be picked up fedex? That is correct sir... So why does is it say that it was Shipped on November 18th on the website? He tells me it was an error... So he says it will be on my doorstep by December 3rd. I say can you guarantee that? Yes sir I can guarantee that. It will be on my door step on the 3rd? Yes sir It will be... Talk about a run around...

It was the same as you as far as no movement on the website and when I called on 11/8 they told me it was shipped but no one could provide a tracking number. -
They know that I'm in an unfavorable position because of the method of payment I chose, if those rumors that xps line is delayed 45 days, I'll be receiving my order in January or February, 3 to 4 months after I placed the order, this is absolutely unacceptable.
The worst thing is that I needed it with urgency, I'm working on an Acer One, I've no complains about this Acer machine, it has worked flawlessly, I've even installed very demanding apps without much problems, but its screen is just to small and it's causing me problems with my eyesight.
I've read posts of people complaining on various issues with this xps line, my advise to all those who can, cancel your orders. -
-
@Dave: Was able to collect mine today - it's okay I'd say, I expected a bit better... the display is insanely bright, hurts so much that I turned brightness down to the lowest level... let me know how you find yours mate.

I'm still using the 1530 in my sig that will be 3 years old next month... the only problem I had with it is the keyboard had to be replaced.
-
I never had any problems with stuff in my sig (knock on wood)
-
Well, I'm bewildered... After this ordeal today with Dell telling me my laptop was still in the warehouse waiting to be picked up by Fedex, I decided to take my mom out for an early dinner to take my mind off the aggravation. When I got back home there was a fedex notice of delivery on my door... They came today to deliver my laptop...I called Fedex and gave them the notice number, not the tracking number cause I don't have one... They assured me that It would be redelivered on Friday... Well, hmmm, still aggravated about the confusion with Dell, but it would seem i'll be getting my laptop Friday.
-
wohooo... 25 days after placing the order, finally it got shipped today... EDD changed from 12/10 to 12/1 (on the dell site). Fedex says the EDD is 11/27...
-
Keep in mind that the new XPS line is a Brand new model , latest technology and one of the best laptops for the price vs performance.
My XPS 15 is a solid machine and seems well built. THis is my second XPS model (M1530 being the first)
At this point Supply and Demand is in affect . Demand is high and supply is ramping up.
My advise would be "It's worth the wait"

I think the poster just made that statement out of complete frustrated due to his bad experience.

To all of you who disagree with my post in which I advice to cancel the orders of the xps 15:
First, I've been waiting for more than one month and if things go right I'll receive my order two months after I place it, you just said you are happy because you received your order in only a few days or because you work with dell or benefit reselling it, I don't know.
Dell should show the real delivery date when you order, so you can make a decision based on that, and not a estimated delivery date that they can postpone indefinitely. If they have component shortages, they should plan the dates accordingly.
Second, I said that I've read post of people complaining of issues with this laptop, and that's true, I just google, and someone considering this laptop can do the same and see it by themselves. I'm just worried that after all this wait I'll receive a mediocre laptop, something that I don't wish happen to other buyers.
Third, this is the first time I order on dell.com and the last, I didn't know that it was common that dell delayed the orders this much. Before I made the order I had read that the order could be a bit delayed, but I never thought by two months or more. -
Just curious what configuration did you order? My new XPS 17 was at my door exactly 2 weks after ordering, order date Nov.4, shipped Nov.12, received Nov.18th with an original EDD of Dec.6th. It sounds like some components are definitely holding up some orders but it doesn't sound like it's most orders being delayed. I also have a friend who ordered a Studio 14 on Nov.6th with an EDD of Dec.12th, that just had her order shipped as well.
In my own personal experience Dell has always been on time or early on over a dozen machines I have ordered over the last 8 years. That's not a bad track record. -
Mines on the way, woo! Its currently in transit from Asia to the US and will then be distributed Sunday. I should have it early next week.
For reference I'm in Ontario and ordered it Nov 2 and my EDD is tomorrow. It had an engineering hold on it due to the infamous "palm rest issue"
Config is in my sig. First tests will be heat and battery life. -

It's sold here for about US$828 (1US dollar = 1870 COP pesos). The basic configuration that includes the intel i5-460M is sold here for about US$1000. -
The system in my sig shipped today! Kind of ironic, I was just calling them to complain/possibly cancel the order since I could get one through the black Friday sale delivered on Wednesday (supposedly) for $100 cheaper. Checked my order status before calling the rep- in produciont, he got on the phone and said it had shipped, and what do you know... check the order status and it is shipped! Oh well, just happy that I will be receiving it soon!

I am very frustrated with Dell. Laptop ordered November 8th 2010, arrival date Nov 25th, then received email this past Tuesday delayed and call Dell in 5 days to learn status....needless to say, I phoned straightaway. Huge run around from 10 different people after multiple transfers. Very frustrated...called again today and after 5 transfers, was told it was due to delivery issue of the NVidia Video Card. I ordered the video card with TV tuner capabilities. I asked if I changed to the card without the tuner and they said that would not make any difference. The rep told me 2000 people are waiting for this part and to call back next week. After my call I checked the status again and it now shows ship date: Information temporarily unavailable....needless to say, I am back on the phone again, on hold, waiting for answers...very frustrated...anyone had this much run around?

Mags1959: Yep, much more run around for me
and mine for a replacement system so the run around begun way before the order was placeed!!
-
Mine came today! Love it!
-
The sound is great! I don't see any issues with the screen except from the top but I don't stand to use my laptop so it is fine. I am still setting stuff up so I haven't gotten to try games yet.

Just got off the phone (25th call) as my status says Information Temporarily Unavailable. The rep said that my unit had been produced and was now in testing mode and would be shipped out in 2 - 3 business days.
Earlier today, I received an email from another rep saying that due to the parts shortage of the nVidia video cards which they were expecting to receive on December 15th, not to expect the computer until after Christmas....
Who do I believe???
After the phone call the status still says Information Temporarily Unavailable.
Very very frustrated.... -

My XPS 15 has an EDD of 12/07. The online EDD show the same message as yours. I contacted the Dell CSR who is following my order and he told me not to worry about this message.

After lengthy production delays due to part shortages, on Nov 28th, I was told that my unit was in "quality assurance testing"and that I unit would shipping out in 24 to 48 hours from the Texas production facility to my destination in Ontario Canada. This seemed like hopeful progress. Due to the inordinate amount of conflicting status/delivery information previously provided to this point, I decided though to make a daily call to Dell re: order status until I actually received a firm courier tracking number. From the 28th on, I kept getting the same message - your unit is in quality assurance and would be shipped in 24 to 48 hours. The same message was provided yet again today December 2nd.... at this point I asked to speak with manager as the 24 - 48 hour message provided Nov 28th was really getting tired...... well yet another turn of events.... this manager explained that my unit was actually in "transit" from an "undisclosed production facility/country" and would be arriving in 3 - 4 business days to the Austin Texas production facility and then would be shipped to Canada.
Needless to say my frustration now has really escalated!!!! This saga began on November 8th, with EDD of Nov 25th. My unit is the XPS 17" i7-740QM, 8GB Memory, 1.0 TB Hard Drive order value before taxes $2505.00
This is a business purchase. If I had known that the delivery of the order was going to be this delayed and enveloped in such drama, believe me, I would have taken my business elsewhere.
My small company has purchased nearly $35,000.00 CDN in equipment from Dell in the last 8 - 9 years. The first few purchases went very smoothly (I provided countless references to colleagues on the great service/quality), the last few orders not so smooth.... now this fiasco! Unbelievable!
Future Dell purchasers please be forewarned!!!!! -
Ordered a XPS15 in the UK with 1080p screen on 24/11/10 and it is currently not moving from Work in Progress status. But the EDD is and has been since placing the order 20/12. I did build a quote the day before I actually placed the order and at that point the EDD was showing 13/12, so placing the order a day later resulted in a 7 day defer on the EDD. Given the fact that the 1080p screen option has been withdrawn any orders placed right at this moment and my unit not yet gone to production, it kind of points to Dell perhaps having a production shortage of the R+BG HD screens ? Maybe they are waiting for stock delivery to allow current orders to be built but in knowing they have a production shortage have had to withdraw the screen upgrades in various countries on any new orders placed ?
-
@ Mags: Mine has to come all the way to Australia and I made a decision vs spending the money now on a laptop knowing my current may die or spending it on a week long trip to Melbourne and saving up for a new laptop in 2011..
If I find the first trace of a Dell up I'm probably going to ask for a refund and cancel the order... the amount of complaints I have seen on here and on whirlpool guarantees they've done something wrong.
Right now I'm a little concerned that nothing comes up when I search for my order status online using IRN and email address, and I got an email today saying my saved cart was about to expire.. ! -
I ordered my laptop on 11/17 (I'm in the US). It arrived on the 29th, not that bad, being just 12 days later. Unfortunately, the very next day on while commuting on the train, someone bumped into me and I crunched my headphone cans in between the display and the keyboard. Needless to say, I was completely distraught! My screen cracked on day 2 due to an accident. Fortunately, I purchased the complete care warranty. Called them on that day (this past Tuesday), and my warranty wasn't even in the system they were using. However, yesterday, they overnight expressed a replacement, and going through the disassembly procedure on the support website, I was able to replace it to new order within about half an hour. All in all, my support experience was great!
As far as the laptop is concerned, I'm in complete love with it! I've owned every XPS laptop they've made, including the huge 15 inch extreme processor edition and this is definitely the best. From taking the thing apart, the build quality is great and solid, and the layout is actually quite rational and sane, so taking it apart was relatively easy. -

Hey guys, anyone ordered the XPS 15 with the 1080p screen and get it sooner than what was initially stated? I want to order one but need it before the 10th of January and the date currently says the 21st.
Thanks in advance guys! -
-
Yea, I talked to a rep (through chat) and I got the initial brush off, but didn't ask him anything about the stock (he was an actual US guy, no outsourced). He said that there wasn't any way to rush it but I've been reading stories about the EDD being moved up. I'm almost ready to order it and cross my fingers lol.
Thanks for the reply! -
Well my order for an XPS 15 (UK) that I placed on 25/11/2010 was in Work in Progress with EDD of 20/12/2010 changed status to Cancelled by Dell Today! It was one with the 1080p screen , TV tuner and 640gb hard drive. I rang Dell customer services and all they said is that it was cancelled due to shortage of components which I reckon you can read as being the FHD screens. So I now hate Dell ! and as the deal now is not the same as it was when I placed the order then Im going to stick with my 4 year old XPS M1710 for the time being and just upgrade the hard disk and memory on it. Just be warned that obviously they under estimated the popularity of people upgrading to the FHD screens and they clearly have issues with supply.
