My main problem is the grainy feel on the LCD (stock) that strain the eyes like hell, as I have to work all day in front of it. Is the New LG LCD much better in this respect? How will you compare the new one with the old one in terms of Graininess?
Thank You.
-
It's definitely a noticeable difference. So much better.
-
Thank you buddy, just made me feel better, I already ordered it. Will feed back once completed the swap. By the way my specs:
Dell XPS 14 | i7-740QM | 4GB RAM | nVidia 425m | 500GB HDD | No Back-lit Keyboard | (not yet)
1600x900 LG LED LCD | Windows 7 pro 64 bit.
This is the part number of the stock screen found out from my system configuration:
HR1VT LCD,14.0HDF,WLED,TLF,45%,INLOX is the brand, dell is getting the supply from. They say it is a special kind of LCD which is much superior (True Color or something), Sorry for my language " What a crap"
Thanks again -
Hi All..
Just finish my swap as well. LCD screen deliver in 3 days. (which is good)
I did break couple taps but bezel is holding well.
And I would like to add that screen looks WHOLE lot better then stock one.
No issue with screeen so far.
Thank you everyone. -
Just finished the swaping of LCD, to the LG one, and as everyone else said it is lot better in terms of Color, Contrast, No Graininess at all. Thank You all and specially to the person who fount it out.
-
swapped the screen to the LG panel, wroth every pennies.
-
Just did it last week. Thanks for the instructions. Worked like a charm. Definitely worth it.
-
Just to clarify, the instructions on page 1 are basically all we need correct? We don't need to go through the whole song and dance of removing like half components as stated in the service manual?

Hey everyone, so I bought the screen in anticipation of doing this mod with a refurb xps14, but Dell screwed up my order. Is anyone interested in a screen?
-
Does anyone have the detailed specs for this screen? I'm looking for brightness in nits, contrast ratio and color gamut.
-
Hi all.
Did the screen swap last week. Went well. Took around an hour as I was super slow and careful and also think I may have removed a bit too many screws. Also I have a lot of photos I took if people would still be interested in them.
I have an issue though:
Here is a video I took of it: YouTube - LCD liquid ripple effect on new lcd in l401x after swap‏ (effect is clearer in 720p)
When the screen is being tilted and moved there are two areas on the lcd in the middle that have this liquid effect that looks like there is pressure being put on the screen from behind.
It is most evident on a blue screen and wasnt noticable before the swap. Does anyone else have this problem. And also is it something that will degrade the screen in the long term and something I should be worried about? It doesnt effect the usage of the screen so the only reason I would do anything about it is if will cause premature wearing of the screen.
Thanks -
I picked mine up from US Electronics, got it Friday, put it in today and all I get is a white screen.
Put the old Dell LCD back in and everything is fine.
I'm hoping it's just a bum LCD, so I just got done requesting a return rma, so now probably have to wait about two weeks to get the new one...
On the plus side though, I did get the bezzle off without cracking it!
I'll let you know how it goes -
ordered the lg screen. i love the l401x overall -- best laptop keyboard i've used, and just an overall great form factor -- but ARGH the stock screen is an abomination. got fed up with the eye-flensing graininess, plus if i wanna do any dev work away from an external monitor, i need more real estate. dell ALMOST got this machine right. ALMOST. anyway, wish me luck, as i'm sure i'll crack the bezel somehow...
-
-
So, does anyone want a screen? I have no use for mine, so I'm willing to sacrifice.
-
While whatever it is *probably* wont cause the screen to crack, you will likely end up with a permanent white glow around the around the area in question.
-
-
that was absurdly easy. the new (lg) screen is SO SO SO MUCH BETTER than the jank screen the XPS14 originally shipped with. i am in awe. i followed the instructions in the first post to the letter -- the only advice i have to save a little of the sticky tape that seals the gold connector ribbon on the back and use that to buttress the connection on your new screen. be sure you are really careful connecting the ribbon to the new screen -- lay the ribbon flat against the bottom of the screen below the connector and slide it up into the connector until there is no gap between the connector rim and the exterior of the plug. then put some tape on it. beautiful!

It looks too good to believe, but the website doesnt offer much details.
but you do get 3 year warranty.

i'm a complete noob, really nervous about swapping the screen, or breaking anything. Anyone else using this panel from this vendor? -
-
-
did this today, went fine. I removed the bezel slowly and used a small screen driver to pry it open along the sides. This worked beautifully because I did not crack the bezel. Screen looks amazing!!. One note would be that you should be careful when removing the frame holding the screen because the ribbon cables are tapped to the screen so if it falls forward it could rip the webcam cable.

I purchased the screen from HooToo 6 weeks ago. While it was in transit to Canada, my XPS 14 had some problems for which I had to send it in to Dell to have fixed. To make a long story short, Dell couldn't fix it, and they're replacing the system with an L502x. So now I have a brand new LG 14" that I can't use on a 15" laptop (obviously) and HooToo won't return after 30 days. So I am selling my screen on eBay. Listing number is 170698622875. When you add shipping I am still the cheapest listing for that screen on eBay. I don't expect to get all of my money back (I paid about $90 for the screen, plus shipping to Canada, and then $20 more for customs fees. I am selling it for $60 on eBay, or bid starting at $40. Feel free to bid on it or Buy Now. If you have questions for me just ask. A link to the listing: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/LG-LP140WD1-...355?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item27bebd82bb
Thanks... I have a feeling I'm not allowed to link to eBay in the forum. I'm not sure though. I guess I'll find out. -
any idea if this mod would work in dell vostro 3350 or v130? i'm frustrated with this poor resolution screen
-

New 14 LG LP140WH1-TLB1 LCD Panel Screen 1366*768 Matte LED 40pins [ATM92-34114-024]- US$80.00 - Atom-Top.com -
-

-
-
is there still no 1080p?
-
-
works great!!! amazing improvement! fallow the steps in the first massage and u wont break ur bezel, there's no reason why...
took something like 20 min...
thank you so much!
btw, anyone knows wheres the Bluetooth module suppose to "sit" ?
thank you -
Does anybody want one of these screens? I bought one but never put it into the unit.
-
Well I am looking for one.;-)
I have a hard time finding a company that wants to ship it to the Netherlands.
Is it possible to send Private Tells here?
/cheers -
I just registered as i received the LG 1600x900 panel as a gift for Christmas. Now the installation went rather flawlessly with the exception of breaking one small pawl on the bezel but that's not the problem.
my dell XPS14 l4o1x with the i7 1.73 Ghz with the GeForce GT425M GPU and 6gb of ram
I installed the screen, as per the Dell XPS service manual, and put it all back together, turning it on and was greeted with the display functioning. The windows logo displayed fine, then it switched to black for a moment like it always does, the back light blinked off for a few moments then i heard the windows login sound. I had no Image on my screen, just a back light black image.
If i boot to safe mode all is well so i disabled the Nvidia Drivers *i had 290.xx it was a beta so i taught maybe t was the culprit. Sure enough windows booted using its default VGA drivers fine, but the best resolution i can do is 1280x800 of of those. I cleaned all the driver files from the computer using the DriverCleaner tool listed in the nvidia forums and reinstalled the original driver. Still no image when that driver is active.
I have tired every available driver between the one on the dell CD and the most recent beta 290.53 i think it is. None of them display anything after the windows logo, just black.
I have tried reinstalling windows 7 Pro 64 again, and installing the drivers but that also yields a black screen once the drivers load.
Windows states that my panel is now a Generic NON-PnP monitor ... but i cannot seem to find any sort of driver for this display. So while this screen is much better for viewing angles and has better colour and contrast it seems, i cant even get it to native resolution.
I cant find a single post with another person that has had this issue, any clues?
Did i miss some trick along the way? do i need to edit config files for the Nvidia Driver? Im confused and at wits end HELP!
*EDIT*
I downloaded Linux Mint 12, and it installs fine, the Nvidia Driver installs fine and it displays at the native 1600x900 running the linux distro, so i know the panel is working. So i must be encountering some sort of error with the windows release of the drivers... but whats preventing me from using them when so many others succeeded ?
**secondary edit**
only the driver for the 3.0 "neovou" or however its spelled kernel worked. the official Stable Nvidia Driver for linux also causes a black screen in Linux Mint 12. So without that the default one in the kernel is just as buggy as the windows default with tearing and pix elation and artifacts, but at least it will display out 1600x900
i hope someone else can shed some light on the matter as i really don't want to remove the screen after seeing how well it worked for a short time -
I just ordered my LG LP140WD1-TLA1 from this website:
LG LP140WD1-TLA1 1600*900 Glossy LED 40pins From $5.00 : Laptop Accessories Store
I'm in Australia and HooToo don't ship here, and US Electronics wanted to charge $40 for shipping, even though it says on the product listing page $18.60 for international...
The Laptop Accessories site looks very similar to US Electronics, and the panel was the same price, except they charge $29.60 for international shipping.
The only sites I could find for Aussie shipping that were cheaper than Laptop Accessories either looked shifty or were for wholesalers.
I can't wait to get my new screen, the stock 720p panel blows. It's the only bad thing about this otherwise excellent lappy! -
So I'm back to square one. It's gonna cost me $128 including postage from papatechI don't understand why the postage is so expensive when they are just gonna send it from China anyway.
-
I have the XPS 14 and this thread helped immensely. Thanks!
Thinking about buying the 14Z now. Anyone know if there is a replacement (higher-res) screen available for it? -
Secondly, I ordered the screen on 08/01, and as such I have had zero response... I realised after I put the order through that the Paypal receipt was from the same seller as the Laptop Accessories Store which I tried ordering from previously. So I am guessing its the same company, the website is also very similar. So if it is the same company, then they don't have the stock, however when I tried to order from Laptop Accessories they gave me a refund, and now I am just waiting and waiting... I've tried emailing US Electronics 3 times already and still no reply. I am worried that I might lose my money.
And I really want this screen! The stock screen sux -
Looking for the OEM 1366x768 screen for my son's L401x.
He recently dropped it and cracked the screen. He went out and bought himself a tablet.
He just wants to fix the screen in order to sell the laptop.
Anyone selling their working old screen?
If so, let me know. -

Another new member to LG screen swap club
Haha, finally got my hands on one, US Electronics was sold out, Power Battery also out of stock, but I managed to get one from Nearby Express.
LG LP140WD1-TLA1 1600*900 Glossy LED 40pins
I highly recommend this site for anyone in Australia, it shipped from China in 3 days, although I had to wait for a week because their warehouse was closed due to Chinese New Year. However, they replied to my emails very quickly and they were very polite. The above link shows only 1 left in stock, so maybe there's not many of these screens left.
As for the quality of the screen, I have to agree with everyone else and say the viewing angles are better, the images are sharper and more vivid, well worth the effort. It makes a huge difference with viewing images and gaming, I always thought the stock screen had a kind of 'hazy' look to it.
I have no idea why there aren't more 1600x 900 screens being manufactured for 14inch 16 by 9 laptops. I was getting worried I wouldn't be able to source one of these LG screens, and I had a look at other options and it seems they are all 1366x 768.
One tip - shut down the laptop, don't hibernate it, before swapping the screen. The laptop doesn't like loading the hibernate image with a different resolution screen, I made this mistake. But it was easily fixed after a few reboots. -

is the screen suggested in the original post still the best one or is there a better one to get?
-
Ok, thanks for the help. -.'

Any idea if this screen would work with a XPS 14z?
