According to the datasheet, that is an Wled TFT display used in sony notebooks, the resolution is 1080p, 75% gamut, 170-200cd/m

Not that bad. A bit pricey there though. 135 Euros, without shipping. >.>

How much did they sell it for?

I didn't hear back from wlfng2005 in regards to splitting the shipping cost so I will go ahead with my original plan and order my screen from Taiwan tomorrow morning hoping to have it by Wednesday next week.

I'm sorry to ask something that have been answered before (I didn't found it with the forum search function):

Are these compatible replacement screens are White LED or B+RG Leds type?

Someone knows if there is any 3D screen to swap?
Since we have such a good graphic card, I would like to use it... ;)

By my reading, any of the screens that can handle 1080p are 3D enabled - you can check technical specs, but fairly sure this is the case.

You'll need the 266.58 Nvidia drivers to install the 3D software; doesn't appear to be part of the Dell drivers.

Ah don't think so, the refresh rate need to be 120Hz to be able to be 3D, unless they state it most 1080p screens are stock standard 60Hz

We can install Nvidia drivers, that is not a problem! :D

Does that means that our XPS 17 cannot operate with screens at 120hz?
Maybe we just need to wait for new technologies to be developed...

No thats not what it means, it means ul need a 120Hz 3D capable screen in order to use 3D, whether it be an external monitor/tv or a screen replacement

u need to check these sites carefully, that is the CCFL screen which means its tube backlit not WLED like the ones in are xps L701. so your 1080p replacement has to be the same WLED backlit ,. hope that helps

doesnt that just hightlight the problem thou! conflicting information,

even when you do find a retailer so say selling the auo b173hw01 v4 LED screen, either they dont actaully have it in stock and/or they will send a compatable screen :(

ive decided to sit on the fence, till someone UK based has found a supplier within the UK , least i know it can go back if its faulty etc

    Hi Guys
I am new to the forum but have been following the thread for a while.

@Mitchell, a while ago you mentioned something about organising a group purchase for the AUO screen, something come from that?
I am about to order the AUO screen (or the HanStar screen) from the Taiwan reseller myself.

No, not really. I never got any feedback from people the might be interested, so I left it hanging... I could probably organise something, and as you're in Amsterdam that would be really convenient (no need to ship it along, I could just drop it off). We would need at least five people though, and ten or twenty would be better (price wise)

    hi,
i would like to confirm that now i received the AUO v4 panel and it works without any problem. so full hd resolution! TO advice everyone else, do not buy a compatible, because you can receive a compatible model that doesn't work (like me, the LG....285). Thanks

I don't see an option to send email, but we can probably work something out.

There are a few threads around here, browse the threads in this forum, or do a search. They're not as active as this thread, so you might need to dig a little.

    That's great, enjoy the panel!

Ive just tried to order this screen from the link on the first page
    HannStar 17.3 full-hd notebook LCD = 1 Results: LCDtec.nl

I emailed the guy first to make sure it would work & to be honest the reply's i got made him sound like a right deadbeat

    "Dear John,
    Thank you for your inquiry.
Unfortunately we do not have the 17.3”, Full-HD, LED-screen for the Dell XPS 1701X in stock. We would recommend you to contact Dell as they usually carry a large stock of their own parts.
Please, do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions"

    I then replied back
    "Hiya
The screen i gave you fits my laptop, i just want to know if it is in stock
    HannStar HSD173PUW1-A00
    Matte

    he then replied back
    "Dear John,
Unfortunately we do not have a compatible screen for the Dell XPS 1701X laptop
    Sorry again for the inconvenience"

to try and make it a bit simpler i then replied
    "Ok forget the 1701 dell
    i want to buy a Hannstar HSD173PUW1-A00
Can you tell me when this screen will be available"

    he then replied
    "Dear John,
We always check the exact part number or all the possible compatible ones we may have. Unfortunately we don’t even have any 17.3” in Full-HD in our inventory.
    Sorry for the inconvenience

    What the hell ??
I mean is this guy for real ?
Surely they want to sell screens, or am i missing something and he's right they dont offer anything in Full HD 17.3 ?

Edit: I just spoke with Fedex - my screen has cleared customs and I don't need any forms. Fedex lady said the shipper filled out the necessary forms...maybe they didn't do the same for you?

    I phoned all the following looking for B173hw01 V.4 last week and none of these vendors have it in stock;

    LCDs4less.com
    Laptopscreens.com
    LCDtec.nl
    Screentek.com
    Promate.com (AUO sole distributors)
    AUO (won't sell to individuals)
    Laptopscreenonline.co.uk
    Studio Technology ( www.yslcd.com)

Studio Technology is the ONLY supplier I found with stock of the exact screen everyone is looking for. I did not contact the eBay source (Bumblescreen or something like that???).

In the end I found a used screen on eBay that the seller pulled from a Dell Studio machine that is the exact item; B173HW01 v.4 H/W:0A. I haven't put it in yet but it appears to be perfect. Hope it lights up when I plug it in!!

First, thank you all for taking the time to actually post all your success and details.

I was wondering how long did it take to hear back initially from yslcd? I have been trying the last couple days and nothing. Dying to place an order for the new display :)
