They are usually pretty quick to respond. I got an email back within 2-3 hrs. You need to remember they are in Taiwan (current time there 10:30PM......current time here 09:30AM --well at least for me) ...i am in Washington, DC......maybe they are sleeping :D

I'd just email him the technical spec sheets from the respective manufacturers with a polite note to "RTFM".

wow... nice way to treat potential costumers.

I've just sent him a query regarding this screen: NEW HANNSTAR HSD173PUW1-A00 17.3" FHD SCREEN LED LEFT on eBay (end time 23-Feb-11 18:19:40 GMT) - to ensure I do receive the Hannstar and not a "compatible" screen.

I'll see how he answers.

I have updated the first post, compartmentalizing the reseller section in three sections: good resellers, unconfirmed resellers and bad resellers.

That should help people out.

I have reported them, on ethics, Ebay is a market place selling goods! and if you are looking for them goods you expect to get what you need,

i know its totally over the top but thats like saying " BMW 2.5 litre enginee for sale part number 234566 "

oh but you may get a compatable part!!!! its false advertising,

he knows that panel is a good one, so by advertising it, he will get sales and he thinks he is covered by saying they ship a compatable screen, i bet he has never had one in stock!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr slimey !!!!!

Well like you all I'm quite annoyed by the ways these sellers seem to do their business.

So, is it possible for us to mark those bad sellers at ebay and give them a negative score?
Any warning to others is nice, and marking them as bad could hopefully change the sellers tactics in a positive way.

FYI, the resolution that an external monitor can support has nothing to do whit the resolution the LVDS cable can support. (in fact, the displayport supports up to 2560*1600, the "up to" part refers to the highest resolution display currently available)

I only used the external monitor example to prevent having them coming back to me saying :you are wrong, you need to change your motherboard" which was the tune they started on.

When it comes to computers or laptops, the resolution your screen can support does not mean you will be able to show that resolution. To do that, you need the proper graphics integrated chip or dedicated video card. Of course, you also need to ensure the cabling is the same too, but the screens we found in this thread (AUO, LG and Hannstar) work.

Anyhow, it just shows that these guys have not got a clue on computers and just rehash the data they got from their supplier (which I bet is LG) and do not like when anyone contradicts them (as can be seen in the numerous responses members got). So bottom line, avoid them.

Ive been emailing Studio Tech as well all morning ,
Been talking to a lady called Jue and she could not be more helpful

This is what she told me

"Regarding your inquiry, we have B173HW01 V.4 (exact version 4) in stock and it is grade A brand new in original package.

Price for B173HW01 V.4 is $87/pcs.

Shipping charge $78 is cost through FedEx international economy
(to UK)

Seems perfect, just gonna work out how to do a Western Union transfer from UK and will probably order from them as they seem like the only ones who know what there talking about

This is quite interesting, and could make adding an 120hz panel to the L701x difficult. I need to research the LVDS standard some more...

On a side note, like the way Dell sometimes ships an extra HDD caddy, and sometimes they don't, maybe they also use two types of cables. That would explain why a 1080p doesn't always work in the L701x

the problem with laptops especailly with this type of modding, is compatable alternatives to manufacturers parts are always going to be illussive information to find, and no one wants to put there hands up and say you can find abetter part here! especailly DELL! but to an extent thats understandable re warranties etc,

but thats why i love this forum and others like av forums, they are gold mines of information, so it really gets my fekking back up when some idiot who thinks hes the master of LCDS coz he has an ebay account, spouting stuff about forums giving out mis information, and if you are a memeber of one, he then wont sell to you !!!! Btw i'm upgrading a Dell 1749 with multi touch 900p screen. As far as I know no one has upgraded multi touch screen, but a few have upgraded standard 900p screen. Hope when I get it the connectors are the same!

No one has upgraded to the multi touch screen. I know that the option was offered on the US Dell site, but It didn't appeal to me but was interesting non the less.
Let us know how that goes. The more information that is disseminated here on this forum can do no harm in the future

Multi touch is cool for working in some website admin areas, if this was available with high quality screen be nice feature to have. At the moment screen quality is poor as you know, and to be honest accuracy is not that great. Have to make buttons large otherwise click wrong thing or miss.

Thanks I have just sent them an email. Guess will be waiting probably until next week now for a reply.

Blown away! - Just installed my new panel with no issues. Mitchell2.24v thanks for the pictures on page one and your notes this task was a breeze. Took me a little over 30minutes to complete because i was trying to be really careful.

next I installed AUO color .icc profile along with profile chooser -everything went well but didn't notice a difference.

In color management application I do see the AUO profile and it is set as default. the profile chooser app is also displaying the AUO file and my only option is to click refresh - which is what I've done (without noticing any difference)

do I need to mess with anything in the advance tab of color management?

Thanks in advance - great thread!

Thanks! That's what the notes are for, so I'm glad they were of help.

It should just work and I'm not quite sure what went wrong. I'll do a new profile this week and upload that one also. Maybe that one will work.

Sorry for my late reply, I'm a bit busy lately. I'll find out the cost, and let you know!

I wanted to share this with everyone else ordering from Studio Technology. My panel arrived in perfect condition and I installed it with no problems. The screen looks AMAZING! - no problems or hiccups at the moment but I am a bit concern of what I found underneath the egg-shape packing foam this morning as i was getting ready to take out the trash-It's a yellow Dell Slip which may or may not be related to my panel.
[IMG][/IMG]

don't know what to think of this? maybe a referb? Studio Technology did say it was grade"A" screen meaning brand new. any thoughts on this?

Maybe they reused the box and packing foam?

So i guess they are saying they are grade a brand new unless there lying , i mean does the screen look ok to you, if it does throw away the paper and stop worrying :)

Don't worry. They order the panels in large quantities and have to improvise when shipping a single panel. Mine came in the box for a 15" Car LCD panel.

And this panel is not used by Dell (not this revision anyway), so the paper is probably from another type of panel.

Hi,

This is my first post to the forum but I have been watching it for the last few days.

I have already ordered a batch of the AUO B173HW01 V4 screens which will be delivered next week to the UK.

This isn't the correct place to tout business, but if you are really after the AUO screen, drop me an email on [email protected] and I can give you some more details.

I would prefer fellow XPS 17 owners get first digs on them.

Thanks
Lee

PS. I'm sorry if I'm breaking any rules by posting this. I just wanted to help you guys out!!!
