nealloy - you can use the Roll Back Driver function in Device Manager to revert to the previous SATA driver for Vista.

Alternatively you can use System Restore to revert to a previous "state" before you installed the drivers. Vista System Restore should show you all of the changes you've made. Just restore to the point before you installed the SATA drivers.

hi. i disabled the cache module and changed the ahci to ata to install xp. now i'm all done except the hdd. i tried installing the sata driver but it says it doesn't meet the minimum requirement. if i were to change the ata to ahci, it says that the OS might not run n may need to be reinstalled.

what should i do now ? thanks

thank u super-twisted, but the thing is that Roll Back option is disabled, anyway, i have just reinstalled my OS. and one more thing is i just have been to my driver website of dell (XPSS M1530) and downladed Intel turbo memory and installed it. that is what cuzing me not to enable write caching on the disk and also not to enable advanced performance. do u have any idea about this?

Intel Turbo Memory is the Robson module which is an optional extra. Are you sure you have this, as it's not an option on our UK XPS?

This is just a guess on my part as I've no experience with Robson, but I think the reason the driver is disabling write caching and advanced performance is because the Robson module takes over these duties instead.

Which version of the driver are you trying to install and exactly what is the error it gives (be as detailed as possible).

i m also from UK. I just put my service tag which is HD08C3J and found there are 2drivers under SATA which r optional. one is intel turbo and another is intel matrix. so i just did install intel turbo and which made this changed. i have no idea about robson module. but why it should be like that. by the way, is there any chat option with DELL for XPS system?

right now i have finished speaking with XPS technical support department. the lady there said me that as i haven't got RAID in my system (XPS M1530) i shouldn't install Intel Turbo or intel matrix storage. the phone connection was not good so i couldn't ask her few things. if u have the same system like me i would like to request u to help me as i m novice in computing.
I was trying to install fresh copy of XP in my system but was not able. cuz it didn't find my hard drive. then i install vista back again and search in the website and found that i need to change BIOS settings(AHCI to ATA)or the other way i could do is just to install hdd driver while i'll be installing xp( Ihaven't found that driver yet now even). so what i did i was trying to enable ATA, but it says to do so i need to disable flash cash module. that's the thing i need to know. what is that?? i just ask the lady and she said i haven't got flash cash module in my system.(have u got that in ur system?). is it a hard ware stuff? if i disable flash cash module will my RAM BOOSTER will be not working? the last things i need to know what is ATA, AHCI and RAID? and the main important question is what will be the best way for my system to install XP as well as VISTA. i mean enabling ATA or installing hdd driver while AHCI is enable. i m sorry for this long post for u. thank u buddy.

How about Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition? Do we need a special software? I reformat my M1530 with Vista, and I installed only Sigmatel HD driver. Anyone knows about this?

I haven't actually received my system yey, but there was no cache module ordered on mine.

The Flash Cache Module on your bios screen is, I believe, in reference to the Intel Turbo Memory/Robson module. Since you don't have this, you are fine to leave it disabled. It will make no difference to your system.

You need to set the HDD to ATA in order to install XP.

Once XP is installed you then need to load the drivers from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=14848&strOss=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang=eng
The woman you spoke to on XPS support is wrong, Intel Matrix Storage covers AHCI as well as RAID and is for your chipset.

Then reboot, set the HDD to AHCI in the bios, and when XP boots it should correctly detect the AHCI controller.

I get my 1530 on Tuesday, I'll be installing XP on it then, once I've done it in person I'll be able to give you more advice.

So just to confirm, has anyone successfully fully installed Windows XP on an XPS M1530 and are running for an extended period of time without problems?

This is what I would like to do. Vista looks neato and all, but XP does everything I need and I already have all the programs I run that I know run on XP.

been on XP since day 1 of getting my laptop.

FYI in order to go back to SATA mode you HAVE to install the SATA drivers!!

Everything is working fine, i am unable to test the PCMI/HDMI- Svideo out however i have zero drivers with exclimation marks and am in SATA mode.

My 3dmark went down 600 Marks, but this is due to drivers.

i was almost pissed off with this AHCI thing and XP for my system m1530, but finally last night i was able to install that both XP and VISTA in AHCI mood. what i did, i made my windows CD by slipstream by nLite. it's really very easy to do that. now i m having driver problem. i have got drivers from this forum where Ubnayn has posted. but the thing is there was no bluetooth driver. so what i did i installed vostro 1500 bluetooth driver and it seems it works fine. only the problem is sound driver. the sound driver Ubnayan posted doesn't work nice. it means when the voulme level is even 0 i can even listen the mouse click sound through the headphone which annoying me much. so now i m looking for sound driver, quickset and NSS driver. oh for NSS drivers i installed from M1330 just for the time being.

i have found ur post for XP drivers link. but i think Ubnayan has posted those driver b4 u. and i again downloaded the sound driver from ur post and found that it's the same driver as i downloaded from Ubnayan. anyways, did u try by ur headphone as i said. just check it out buddy. and one more thing, i already installed NSS from M1330. but i was curious about the NSS driver u posted. so i just downloaded it and was trying to install but it says some language problem. so i m wondering is it just bcz of being installed NSS in my system or different language for u posted.

    thanks for this thread.

i saw some people asked - but it never seemed to be answered - do we have to manually install these updates? or will the dell support center program do this automatically?

Dell Support Center should automatically install the updates but it didn't reliably work for me. Further if you observe, all the updates I have compiled are not from Dell and you'll have to anyways install them manually.

Dell Support Center seems to have lot of conflicts with Vista and some other softwares. That is why I have not included that program in the list. I have also eliminated alpha and beta versions from the compilation.

thanks again - and for the list as well, which is very helpful.

i haven't noticed dell support center downloading anything on my laptop, so wasn't sure whether it does it automatically (i would've thought that it should!).

i just bought my xps 1530. how do i check to see if my drivers are current or the same as the ones on ur link? Does dell usually install the current drivers that have been released before they ship the product to you?

So with all these drivers installed are there significant performance increases or at least noticeable? Just curious. I installed only the graphics card driver so I wouldn't know how it compares to the initial driver that came installed on the computer.

    No.

Check Intel's website for details. Turbo Memory Driver includes the Hard Drive Driver, so you can just install the Turbo Memory Driver.

You need to check the revision numbers on the disc (it might requiring extracting the files to check and is not a straight forward process for laymen). Dell updates their driver disc at a set time and not as and when the drivers are updated therefore the chances of getting an updated driver disc is slim. Further as all the drivers I have provided are not from Dell but the latest versions directly from Intel's and nVidia's website there is no way you would find them even in the updated driver disc of Dell.

These drivers are required for your hardware to function properly. My compilation consists of direct download links of the latest required original non-modified drivers. My compilation ensures stability and zero conflicts which in turn should improve performance.

If you observe, I provide the video driver from nVidia's website and not from Dell's website as nVidia's website has the latest driver. Similarly, all Intel hardware drivers are provided from the Intel's website and not Dell's website.

All the provided drivers and utilities are for Microsoft Windows Vista 32-bit operating system. I haven't yet found stable and non-conflicting drivers for Microsoft Windows XP 32-bit operating system and hence the same hasn't been provided. Similarly 64-bit versions have been skipped.

Are any of you finding this compilation helpful? Should I continue to update them as and when the new versions gets released?

The way windows is and the way drivers are written and installed, you are better off formatting the drive and reinstalling the OS to remove all traces of the previous drivers.

Thanks for everyone's input on upgrading the M1530 to XP. I've gone through and tried to collect everything I need in preparation for receiving my M1530. I have a couple of outstanding questions:

Does the biometrics install included in ubnyan's driver back include the touchstrip driver or is it just the management software? I have the touchstrip driver from KanadianIceMan's list. biometrics looks like the management software. Is this correct?

Does the ExpressCard work in XP? I didn't see any drivers for it. Is that part of the chipset perhaps? I didn't see Vista drivers specific for it either.

Does anyone know the make and model of the DVD drive?

    Thanks.

i have installed Intel Turbo Memory drive which is 'Intel(r)TurboMemory_All' from intel website. but in my all program files it came like Intel Matrix Storage with two sub options- one is help and another is intel matrix storage console.

thereafter i install Intel Matrix Storage which is 'iata78_enu'. and here in all programs i can see that i have got intel matrix storage with 4 options. two r the same like first one and rest of two r readme and uninstall.

so my question is were they correctly installed? in intel website i saw that after being installed turbo i should see it in all programs option like 'intel turbo memory'. plz help me some1 in details.

Thanks to sinstoic for starting the thread and supplying the Vista drivers. Thanks to kanadianiceman and ubnyan for the XP drivers. You guys rule! :notworthy:

I'm in the middle of an XP only install on one m1530 and on another m1530 I'm going to do a dual boot XP and Vista.

I haven't made it to the touchstrip driver or biometrics yet (I finally got the latest Nvidia 169.21_forceware_winxp_32bit_english_whq to work). Not sure about ExpressCard either, but I can answer your DVD drive question:

    TEAC DVD+/-RW DVW28SLC ATA Device (firmware A06)

what happens if you install an incorrect driver? is it as easy as uninstalling it, and then reinstalling the correct driver? or are there long-term effects (stuff-ups) from doing so? do drivers interact with other parts of the laptop, or just the device it's meant for?

What functionality do you lose by not installing the Dell software?

Well, you can't actually use the reader :p But you can probably find some other software that will allow you to use it.
