ubnyan, your drivers pack helped me immensely. Thanks a ton!
As some others have reported, when I try to install http://downloadcenter.intel.com/detail_desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=2101&DwnldID=14848&strOss=All&OSFullName=All%20Operating%20Systems&lang=eng to enable SATA, which I had to disable in order to install Windows XP Pro, I get a message saying "This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for installing this software". Is there a solution to this?

How do i remove the hinge covers and center control cover? I tried what the manual said, but they didnt come loose.

Feeback on installing XP on the M1530:
The nvidia drivers from the first XP driver list are for the 1520 and don't work on the M1530 they say they can't find a supported adapter. Ubnyan's packaged video driver works fine. They are not from Dell, though. Notebook Utility says my langauge is not supported (English:US). The touchpad is acting up. When it first rebooted after installing the Alps driver, it was going crazy, like I was hitting hyperspace everytime I moved my finger.
The hybernate and sleep options were not available after installing chipset and rebooting, but then after installing video and rebooting they were. Not sure if it was just rebooting again or if the video drivers were necessary for this, just an FYI.
Edit: So all hardware drivers are installed and I'm showing no unknown items in the Device Mangler. Card reader works, webcam works, fingerprint reader and software work. Haven't tested firewire, and probably never will. Haven't tested the Express Card, might some day. Haven't tested Bluetooth, don't really use that on notebooks. Wireless works. Not experiencing any more strangeness with the touch pad. Audio works fine. I'd like to install the Notebook Utility and Quickset. I don't have a installs for these yet that work. -
sonicwind, what did you do about SATA drivers? Did you install those during the XP install?
I was under the impression that you could install them after. But how, then? -
I'm in the same boat as you roughly. The two things I'm having problems with are the NSS software and Quickset. Ubnya's zip files didn't include those drivers, so I tried the one's linked in kanadianiceman's post:
-R151309 v.8.1.10 A44 Dell QuickSet 3-19-07
and
-Dell Notebook System Software R171888 v.5.3.3 A28 11-20-2007
Both gave errors about incorrect operating system and unsupported system during a normal install. kanadianiceman wrote about using the setup.exe -s option under dos and I tried it for both (-s stands for silent). I didn't get any errors when using setup.exe -s, but I didn't get any confirmation either and I watched the hard drive light and my guess would be that the programs were not installed. Nothing showed up in the Start Menu or under Program Files.
I guess a great question would be does anybody know how to test if NSS or QuickSet are installed?
I installed the SATA drivers during the XP install using a USB floppy drive. It worked great.
I think I remember reading somewhere that it is possible to install afterward (and avoid the blue screen of death problem). Do some searches for AHCI, ATA, SATA, windows XP here, on google, and on the Dell Community forums and you'll find a thread that has the solution. -
I changed in the BIOS to use ATA mode, and didn't install the SATA drivers during the installation or after. As mentioned elsewhere. I plan to install the SATA drivers and switch back on the SATA mode, however the drivers for that linked here earlier were incorrect. So I haven't done that. It's not a high priority for me, since everything seems to be running fine. And someone else said there's no performance difference, but I have my doubts. Supposedly that Native Command Queueing (or whatever) can be a huge boost in some situations and that is one of the features supported by the driver.
-
The driver in the first post of this thread is the correct one. The same link/file on Intel's site is used for both Vista and XP.
Description: Intel Matrix Storage
Release: 11/9/2007, 7.8.0.1012
Size: 5.62 MB -
For those still having issues installing XP Drivers... I posted all the xp drivers for the Xps M1530 system I had at the time. I will do the same on another Xps M1530 soon, but this time I will create a step by step document that I hope will help others as well as posting any drivers used in the process.
The future system, like the other one, has no bluetooth, but it is a little better than the last one.
Processor:
Intel® Core 2 Duo Processor T7700 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 4MB Cache)
Memory:
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
LCD and Camera:
High Resolution glossy widescreen 15.4 inch LCD(1680x1050) with 2MP Camera
To those still having issues with sound or anything else... as I said before, the drivers I posted before worked 100% ok for me, however it is not guarantee you will experience the same results on your system. Others may have found and posted better drivers than the ones I found. Your particular system may be a little different inside so you will just have to search and test your drivers, just like I did.
Questions/comments are always welcome. -
With XP, my screen will not come on after sleeping or hybernation. I have to do a hard reset to return to normal. How is this working for others? - Edit: Installed the nVidia driver from the 1520 XP version and returning from sleep and hibernate works now.
Also, I'm installing the Vostro 1400 Notebook Utility for XP. I noticed on the M1530 version, it also listed the 1400, so I went to the 1400 drivers and XP is supported there, so trying that out. The XP Quickset from the Lattitude D530 works.
I would call my XP install on the XPS M1530 complete, now. I haven't attempted to install the MediaDirect yet, as it's not something that is important to me. But I might later just for fun. I seem to recall someone else doing it earlier in this thread. -
I am running vista32 on my 1530 and just want to confirm if the nvidia drivers will increase video performance without affecting bluray/dell media direct functionality. Read somewhere that for good gaming performance to use latest nvidia drivers but that blu-ray player will no longer be able to play movies or something..this is critical for me cuz i got the 8400m gs but my kids need the bluray for all the disney titles (sux they don't release under HDDVD), and i want to squeeze all i can out of the gfx card for my crysis sessions...
-
Oh yeah, and even after using the stock Dell video driver for XP (from the 1520, it still shows my video card as 512 mb. Didn't get anything remarkable in 3dMark06, though, so I still think it some kind of configuration fluke. I mean 7500 in 3dmark06 is about what everyone else gets, right?
-
I managed to get back into SATA mode after installing Windows XP, without using a slipstream cd or otherwise installing the SATA drivers during the actual Windows install. Here's how:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=164159&highlight=m1330+ahci+sata -
A friend of mine got a Dell XPS M1530 recently and we wanted to install Windows XP on it. However, we are experiencing difficulties with the Sigmatel Audio Drivers. We literally tried every driver there is out there (including the Vista and XP drivers on the first page on this thread and the ones in ubnyan's XP driver compendium), but the setup always says " ExitError:Error=This system does not support the driver you are attempting to install."
We are out of ideas and don't know what to do here
We are also unable to install the Keyboard Shortcut Utilties, when running setup.exe -s, nothing happens. And the Notebook Utility says, that the Operating System has the wrong system language... -

I ran across this XP on M1530 post in the Dell.com forums:
http://www.dellcommunity.com/suppor...?board.id=Tech_Talk_XPS_Laptop&thread.id=2781 -
does our system(XPS M1530) supports powe on security for Finger print reader?
-
hey a little question to all
since im on xp with my m 1530, all works fine... BUT... the Standby, as soon as my NB goes into standby, it cant get out of it anymore, i tried to reinstall the graphics driver, but didnt change anything... anybody can help me out?
would be awesome! thx all! -
No, I don't see anywhere to set that. Just passwords at the moment. It's a good idea, though.
I reported the same problem and fix a few posts prior. I originally used the drivers from Ubnyan's pack. After installing the XP video driver from the 1520 driver download, resume started working properly. You have to have the chipset and possibly the Notebook Utility installed, but I don't think the Notebook Utility is required and you already have the chipset installed or you would not have StandBy as an option. So just download the 1520 XP video driver and install that. -
ill try that, thx sonicwind
-
it worked! HURRAY
thx sonicwind for helping me out
-
btw, another little question:
anybody knows how to let the dell media remote control thingy (to controle videos/winamp etc) work properly on the core media player etc...? i can use forward backward and sound control there, but i cant use the play/pause/stop buttons, which angers me a little bit...
thx all
-
Thanks to kanadianiceman and ubnyan for the XP drivers. I have now installed XP successfully on my M1530 with all the drivers and after much reasearch in the last 3 days, but im getting very low 3d Mark results with the driver from Kanadianiceman and a lot of instability with the nvidia 169.28 drivers for my 8600m GT 256MB, not to mention the adapter shows having 512 MB of ram in the adapter tab.
However the Ethernet Controller drivers have been updated since, Here is the link:
http://www.marvell.com/drivers/upload/setup_v10.51.4.3.zip
If some one can help me with the video driver problem, I'll much appreciate it. -
What score are you getting?
-
Why are you using the nvidia 169.28 BETA drivers? Why not use the Nvidia 169.21 WHQL drivers? I haven't had any problems with v169.21. I'll try to run 3D mark results later today and I'll post the results.
Thanks for the Marvell Ethernet driver link. Any idea what accounts for the 20mb size difference between the Marvell driver you posted versus Dell's version of the driver? -
Marvell drivers are for Ethernet Controller and not video..
-
No idea, but i do know its the latest version and the performance is real nice.
An about the video driver i tried the 169.28 because someone on this thread said they saw a boost in perfromace using them, now im using kanadiannicemans's version and my 3dmark05 score is around the 3900 mark, where as ive seen the average score to be around 4200.
I usually do all performance testing on http://www.pcpitstop.com , has anybody tried running their full test after installing xp and drivers on the M1530? It also reports that I have an unusually low video performance. -
What was your result from the Notebook Utility install? You used R171887 v.5.3.3, A28 correct? Did you have to do the silent install?
Thanks!! -
When you say "kanadiannicemans's version", are you referring to the v169.13 hacked inf drivers from post #9 in this thread? I'm trying to get all the drivers and resulting scores straight.
-
Oh yeah and this is the only utility i havent been able to install, i tried the -s command in the command prompt as well, no luck. But i don't see what this utility can do that i dont already have, so im not so bothered.
-
Yea the first link of the xp video drivers to dell support on #9 by kanadianniceman, not the laptoptovideo link below it!
-
I'm got 3DMark06 score 4045 with stock settings.
-
Sweet! It worked. Used the drivers from UB's package and followed the instructions that someone here linked to the dell community forums and am now typing this on a freshly, perfectly installed working copy of windows xp on my new XPS M1530! Thank you to all who provided all the valuable information. Cant wait to get some complication free Gaming in. Will post back after i try out the HDMI! Bluetooth works fine, fingerprint scanner works just like in Vista and i havent come across anything that does not work. Peace yall.

Ok people i think I've solved my video driver problem, it turns out the version of 169.21 forceware driver i was installing didn't support mobile versions, so i downloaded and installed the modded inf file from laptopvideo2go.com.
FOR THOSE PEOPLE STILL HAVING TROUBLE WITH THE VIDEO DRIVER ON WINDOWS XP 32-BIT FOR THE M1530, HERE ARE THE LINKS:
DRIVER FILE, MAKE SURE YOU DOWNLOAD THE MODDED INF BELOW AS WELL:
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/nvidia/165series/16921.exe
MODDED INF
http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/infs/165series/16921/nv4_disp.inf
After extracting the files from the 16921.exe file, add the nv4_disp.inf to the the extracted files folder, overwriting the existing nv4_disp.inf, and then run setup.exe.
Voila you get a score of 4100 in 3DMark05, Thanks to burner98 for the suggestion! -
You should try copying the winamp plugin .dll file to your plugins folder. You can find it on my previous drivers post.

I need a good sound driver for xp. plz help me. the sound driver ubnayan posted is not good.
-
I tried out the HDMI port tonight with my XP setup. It worked fine output to my HDTV, including sound. I had to plug it into the TV first, tune the TV to that input, then go into NVidia Control panel and select the TV, which was listed by model already. It configured the TV output to 1920x1080 automatically. It wouldn't switch if I had a movie already playing, so I had to kill media player classic, then do the switch in NVidia Control panel, then all was well. For some reason there were occasionally some blue dot artifacting during the movie, but mostly it was good. I had to kill the movie to switch back, too. It gives a message about how it can't switch (from TV to notebook LCD) while there's a video playing.

Guys, i'm a newbie here... just got my m1530 last saturday
i wanna do the xp/vista dual boot but i dont know how... where can i get a step-by-guide???
i dl''d the xp drivers already... i dont understand how to disable the sata in bios etc... i feel dumb...
-
I suggest you just keep everything the way Dell sent it to you for maximum computer enjoyment. Otherwise you are getting into possibly weeks or more of not being able to use it considering your current experience.
-
Thanks for the original list and links.
My Red 1530 is on the way.
I'm going to leave Vista on it. -
i need to run xp as most of my work stuff is on xp. pls help...
-

nope your winamp plugin does not fit .. at least not 100% perfekt, the only thing i need for my happiness is, that the play/pause button works... ^^
and the dumb site of the core media player > plugins is down everytime, so also no chance to check there for a better fitting plugin, and also havent been able to find a plugin through the internet ... -
could you upload them to http://www.mediafire.com/? it is totally free so you could provide a direct link to your file...
-
Are you guys seeing any differences/getting any benefits from the SATA drivers? I'll try to do a battery life and performance tests. I'm really curious as to whether this is just a waste of time.
-
I have XP installed without SATA drivers and I don't notice any performance issues. Maybe the drivers would add extra features....?
-
What's a good tool for testing performance?
-
Hello guys, i was keep asking abt audio driver for XP. the audio driver already posted is crap. if u don't believe just use ur ear phone and put the volume in zero. u can still hear the mouse click sound. plz some1 reply my post.
