hi there. does anyone know if it's possible to install windows xp on the Dell XPS One system? is it just a case of getting the drivers off various manufacturer websites?

Hey guys, I installed XP Pro on XPS1530. Installation was fine but some issues with drivers. The screen is not working properly. I mean when I use scroll, movement is very slow. audio is not working. I tried to download drivers from links provided by Udi n others, but was not able to download.

Not sure if these links are working.

    Any help.

premsaharan - I just received my 1530 yesterday. The Dell audio driver on the first page did not work. Thanks to Google I found that R180044 works perfectly. All of my devices are working fine except for the fingerprint scanner, which is useless to me and I'm not going to find a driver for it.

For installing the correct Audio driver for the XPX 1530 - just use the driver for Lattitude D830 ( windows XP system ) from Dell Driver support website.. I installed it last night and the Audio works fine now..

on Fingerprint reader - if anyone can find the driver.. please post..

What do you mean you _still_ can't find the driver?

Have you checked in _Dell drivers and downloads page? Its there. Search with your service tag or the model name.

Or the links are in my sig.

Ok I am a newbie so bare with me, please.

I am ready to order my XPS 1530 in the next few days. I want to get a dual boot Vista/ XP and I need some clarifications.

I read about slipstreaming and even did a try out with my xp home edition cd, tested it on virtual pc. Now I am ready for prime time but I am confused about the all driver business. I am ready to hunt them down but I need some kind of guidance of what drivers I will need. I read a lot on the forum but I got confused between the vista and xp drivers, new and old , etc..

So, I am not demanding, if someone can just point me to a link with a list of the hardware for which I will need to hunt the drivers I would be very grateful (just the hardware not the actual drivers).

Also, I thought the XPS 1530 came with a SATA drive, but now I read about AHCI, is it also for the HD?

I read through the XP CD making thread and I was wondering if I could just use the driverpacks.net driverpacks? I would just add all of them and hope for the best? Would all the drivers be installed or somehow only the drivers for the specific hardware on the laptop be recognized and installed?

Any help would be highly highly appreciated.

I'm having the exact problem with my audio drivers under Vista, and I can't get a forum response either (at least not in the last two days). the Dell/Sigmatel site drivers make everything go mute.

The only solution that has worked for me is to uninstall the Sigmatel app under "Programs and Features." If a Sigmatel program doesn't show up, open Device Manager >> Sound, Video and Game Controlers >> Sigmatel Advanced Audio CODEC and remove the drivers from there. Be sure to check the box to remove the driver files from your hard drive, then reboot. Vista will find the hardware and install default drivers on its own that will work well enough over the notebook speakers and headphones.

The problem that will persist is there will only be stereo output through the HDMI, and there won't be gain controls for the webcam mic. I'm still trying to work these out.

    Anyone got any driver advice?

I've been using the Vista/XP dual-boot configuration for a while now. Admittedly, my XP partition is a rather barebones configuration, with only programs essential to music production. Everything seems to be working rather well, including the audio. I haven't tried the HDMI connection though, so I can't speak to that.

I simply followed the instructions on the XP installation thread here, and used the drivers in the zip files on the first post:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=212981

    Good luck!

Thanks. So basically you used the zip files and everything worked? Did you have to update the BIOS?

My guess is I will be doing what you did, I am only going to use XP to run a few programs that will not run under vista, for the rest I will give Vista a try.

    I have 2 questions:

    To jack53:
Did you do your clean reinstall with the files from post #1 from the step by step XP install guide?

Do you have to update the BIOS?

I did it pretty much from memory as I've done this many times on other computers, twice on this notebook.

Do you have to update the BIOS?
Nope, did see a need to. Unless someone tells me otherwise.

If I recall correctly, the zip files covered pretty much everything (I don't remember having any big problems). I didn't have to update the BIOS either.

Hey everyone...So I'm an idiot and while I was trying to downgrade to XP, I formatted my external hard drive by accident, losing everything! I couldn't see multiple options for the partitions though, all I saw was a partition on my external hard drive. I was wondering why I'm not getting any options for partitions like I should be. Thanks!

Not sure if people are still checking this thread....

My M1530 got infected by a virus/trojan, so I opted to do a full format, and start from scratch. Before I had screwed things up, I had WinXP Pro installed without any issues.

With a little bit of struggle, I was able to get the M1530 back up and running WinXP Pro. I do have a couple of issues, and I wanted to see if I could get some help ironing them out.

Under the Device Manager, I have two instances with yellow question marks of Other Devices, namely Base System Device. I have tried to manually install the various drivers, but can't seem to get these to go away.

Under the Device Manager>Monitors tab, I have three instances of Default Monitor, and one Plug and Play Monitor. Is that normal?

So far, the system seems to be running okay. I am in the process of loading my apps, so any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

    EDIT

I was able to resolve the two Base System Device errors. The were both the card reader drivers.

I got an M1530 over the weekend and repartitioned and reinstalled XP Pro x64 instead of Vista Premium 32bit which it shipped with.

I have all the drivers installed and working but the one thing I can't enable is Hibernation support. I can do Standby but I have no option to enable hibernation. Anyone know if this is possible? Also, is the fingerprint reader rubbish on everyone else's 1530s? Mine reads my finger about once in 10 swipes. I turned it off in the end.

    yes yes and yes!!!

when i go to stand by, and try and resume i get lots of crashes.

there is a hibernation function but it consumes 2Gb of memory by turning it on and it does not work either!!

and lastly the finger print scanner it turd! it will work on the condition that you have the same salt content (sweat) on ur skin, you swipe with exactly the same pressure, and also that you hold your finder at the same angle everytime throughout the swipe!!!

Hi guys, I've recently started gaming on my m1530 after a long hiatus and I've noticed that my 3Dmark scores are really low compared to what's been posted on the forums. Here are my specs:

    T9300 @ 2.5 GHz
    3 GB RAM
    256MB 8600M GT
    Windows 7 Home Premium

I'm getting scores of around 2500 on 3Dmark06, on the default resolution that comes with the free version. I'm currently using driver version 186.81. Seems like I should expect scores of 3500+ at least?

    Any help appreciated!

Does anyone have a listing of the latest drivers for the M1530? It seems the XPS wiki page is gone, and that always had the latest drivers.
