Is this by using the Inspiron coupns that were working with the M1530? They no longer work.

Just as a heads up, if you want a screaming deal, the Inspiron dell coupons are working on the XPS M1530 right now. There's a $200 off $899+ and $300 off $1199+. from Andrew
    Admin / Reviewer

    I used inspiron $300 off $1199+

There were strong rumors that M1330 would lose LED display once M1530 is released to shift the focus to M1530. Hmm! How things have changed. Dell Canada offers LED display for M1330 if you call and order!

According to Dell, M1530 will have LED displays as early as Christmas but not later than January 2008!

You heard this direct from someone at Dell or is this more of a guess? If it's accurate I'll wait till either the LED is available or until there's a higher resolution CCFL display on a proven quality screen. I think it's ridiculous to introduce a new 15" XPS laptop with WXGA being the only choice.

I am not guessing. I got the information when I called to enquire about it.

These are the display options for Dell XPS M1530:

    CCFL Backlit LCD Display:
    15.4-inch WXGA TrueLife (1280x800)
    15.4-inch WXGA+ TrueLife (1440x900)
    15.4-inch WSXGA+ TrueLife (1680x1050)

    LED Backlit LCD Display:
    15.4-inch WXGA+ TrueLife (1440x900)

why would they not offer the LED backlit display on the 1680x1050? that pretty much makes the backlighting worthless. I would rather have resolution anyday over a backlit kb.

I don't think so because the system should be large enough to fit the extra size of the battery.

ok this is just my view, but i think tht xps 1530 has the ddr2 256 mb version which we see in 1720,1520 and asus f8. Why ?

because i just now configured the 1530 and the diff. between 128 mb 8400-gs and the 256 mb 8600-gt was 100$ which is the same price diff. tht u get between the 128mb 8400-gs and the ddr2 256mb 8600-gt on the 1520/1720.

Now I knw tht the 256 gddr3 version is the most expensive of the lot, even more expensive thn the 512 mb ddr2 version as can be seen while customising the asus c90. so why wud dell charge same money to upgrade frm 128mb 8400gs to gddr3 8600gt as upgrading frm 8400-gs to the 256 mb ddr2 8600 gt ??

    Hey guys...

I ordered an XPS 1530 on the 27th. I am told that my delivery date is 12/20 as they are in "limited production" for now. I never heard 7 days.

I am having second thoughts though because I only had the one screen to choose from and I can't decide if it's a waste of money to get such a good machine with such a sub-par display.

    Thoughts?

I know its really hard to wait when a cool new product comes out ... but try and wait until higher resolution is available is my suggestion. the screen may look really nice, it may play movies well, but when you are using Outlook or Excel or Word on a 1280x800 display you will know the difference. That's the only thing that isn't perfect, so why settle if you can wait a couple weeks more.. chances are the first batch of products will have higher manufacturing issues as well similar to the 1330...

once they up the res and i wish they would ditch the webcam and finger reader on it as well. for me its going to be between that and the 1525. i would love a laptop right now but i might end up seeing how long i can hold out.

might wait for the 45nm chips. then again once those come out it will be 2 more months for some other sort of chip and so on.

It is not just our office, even sleey0 is getting it faster.

I just configured one online and saw the estimated date for January 2008. Hmm! Something is going on.

My Dell representative told me that they are having issues with higher resolution screens. Graininess is one of the reasons.

Dell's lead times are extremely generous and you usually will recieve your system much quicker than expected. Keep in mind that this is a new system and no one really knows if there will be delays yet.

My current EDD is 12/6 and if I get a delay you all will be the first to know :)

I notice that the USA site offers the XPS 1330, 1730 and 2010 on the small business site, but not the 1530. In Canada, only the 1330 is offered on the Small Business site.

I would prefer to order from the Small Business site to get the 30-day 100% refund policy with no restocking fee.

What do you think is the likelihood that the XPS 1330 will be offered on the Small Business site?

Is there really a difference between CCFL and LED displays? I have an older Dell 700M and the screen has been clear and great looking.

I believe the 1530 is DDR2, that's what my order says.

I was looking through the specs in the user manual, the 8600M GT is DDR3!!!

Video type 2: discrete video card
    Data bus PCI Express X16
Video controller nVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS
Video memory 256 MB DDR3 technology
    LCD interface LVDS
TV support HDMI mode and S-video

Edit: omg, that says it's a GS. what the?

I'm not sure I trust that manual.
Remember how they originally said the 8600M in the 1520 was GDDR3?
    And it wasn't.
