I just ordered my 1530, specs as follows:

    Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 (2.5GHz, 6MB L2)
    Vista Home Premium
    Full HD (1920x1200) Display
    4GB RAM
    250GB 5400rpm HD
    256MB 8600GT
    Intel Nextgen-N 4965 + Bluetooth
    Slot load blu ray

For $2004 after tax, free 2 day shipping. I'm happy with it.

    ESD: June 26th...we'll see.

Edit: I figured that since I got this system for $400 less than the retail price on the dell site I should post the link. You have to get a blu ray to get this price =\

I'm using 1200 by 1600 now on my old sony, I don't think i want to go smaller.

Can someone with the 1200 by 1900 tell me what they think about the screen. All i hear are the 1400 by 900 people saying that 1200 by 1900 is small. Is 1200 by 1600 small also?

I have seen 1920x1200 on a 17" and 1680x1050 on a 15.4". 1680x1050 was completely fine on the 15.4", and the 1920x1200 was great on the 17". Understanding that there is a different, I doubt that making the screen 1.6" smaller is enough to make the text unreadable. Even if it is, Windows has pretty decent support for DPI scaling and font size changing.

set the resolution to 1920x1200 right click the desktop -> personalize in the left column of vista on the popup goto Adjust font size (dpi) and set it to large that should fix the small text in higher resolutions.

Your computer can not communicate with DNS Server.
I was thinking that the problem is related to my ISP Server but I have used from 3 ISP's and this problem still exists. I can connect to internet but in limited connectivity mode and the received packets in local area connection status is less than 1000???????
I changed my phone line but the problem still exists.

@minnanotabo: In all honesty, 160GB is probably fine. If you have a lot of games or music or pictures or videos, then it may be worth it to go for the upgrade. However, you'll probably be ok with 160. And I believe that the hard drive is classified as user-serviceable and will not void your warranty by changing it.

Edit: For those of you who are hesitant about buying the XPS because of the screen issue, I talked to a dell rep yesterday who said that they have phased out the samsung panels and are using only LG. Whether or not this is true, I'm not entirely positive, but if you do happen to get a samsung panel the rep also said that they will exchange it for you. Just call/chat and make sure you specifically ask them for one with an LG panel. They will do it.

According to the dell rep I talked to yesterday (the one I bought my XPS from) they have stopped using Samsung panels. According to the one I talked to this morning (who, in all honesty, seemed incompetent - he couldn't answer any of my questions specifically like the first rep did, just answers like "I believe that..." and "I am not sure because..." or "I don't have this information...") said they outsource from multiple companies (without mentioning any specific one). They were clearly different level reps that I spoke to. I'm not sure if the same applies to the LED displays, but I just thought I'd let you know of my experience.

They also stopped selling the WSXGA (1680x1050) screens, which were the ones that were having problems. All the grainy screen issues were on that resolution, the 1440 and 1920 size resolutions never reported these problems, and if people did, it was very very isolated problems, not like the 1680s.

if nothing relate to the 160gb i think i just get an external hd, since fry's is doing a very good sales for 250gb buffulo for $129.

hey i was just wondering is it too late to ask Dell to change the display if i already had the laptop for a few month? because the more i look at it the more notable the graininess is. there is a huge difference between this and my Asus laptop which is also 1680x1050.

Note: I posted this in another thread, but thought it may get more views on this thread~
So, I placed my order for the m1530 on the 06/13/08 and am wondering if you think I still have time to call Dell and request the change from x32 to x64. Do you think this would be a good idea? We all hear that 64 bit is the future, and with the knowledge on the forums I'm sure there is enough compiled information to get everything running smoothly. I will be running Vista Ultimate, and obviously selected the 4GB RAM option. Are there any disadvantages to running the x64 Vista? Let me know what you guys think. Also does anyone have the link for the 64 bit drivers section on these forums?

With Ultimate I know they will send you a copy of x64. Call them and see what they will do.

There is a thread on here someplace about Dell having to give you a x64 DVD when you ask. It seems they are doing it for Ultimate only.

impossible. simple explanation think of a car with the same top speed higher you can get the rpms to shift the more power your pushing through the car to get to that top speed faster.

so in short no the 5400 drive will always be slower however another factor is cache but i think 7200rpm drives have 16meg cache while i think a 5400 rpm drive can only have 8meg cache.

Either way I dont think the speed difference is going to be life or death, but your computer is only as fast as your slowest part.

Hey, I'm having a slight problem with my m1530.
the "L" on my new laptop is "stiff" compared to the rest of my keyboard keys. It still works, just that it need a good amount of pressure for it to register.

    I think it wasn't a problem before.

I cant really see under the key, but can I just pop the key and check what's wrong with it, or should I just call dell?

This didn't really matter to me as I wanted space more than speed, but I did read somewhere that certain tasks can and will be as fast between the 320gb 5400rpm and the 200gb 7200rpm. The reasoning behind that was the ammount of density per whatever is higher on the 320gb... more data per (lets say square MM) at a slower spead means it can read almost as fast as a 7200rpm drive with less dense data. For some reason I can't come up with the right verbiage, but thats what the theory was. I can in no means validate this, but thats what I read so I thought i'd at least give the other side of the story, which is probably what the original poster was thinking.

does it really matter if i don't remove bloatware?
sorry i am not a computer guy, i always mess up my pc, so i guess if bloatware is not important to be remove i rather keep them lol.
anyway, i read the sticky post about the bloatware but it seem a little confusing about this:
AHCI Concerns: On new Dell systems, they are set up to run in AHCI mode which will give you a 15% system performance boost. In many instances, the AHCI driver MUST be installed during the initial installation process for the installation to work. Those not installing it are finding that their system may BSOD or hang during the installation and saying "Completing Installation Process".

Hi, I don't know if anyone can help me, but I'm having some issues with my M1530.

I bought it about 3 months ago or so, and installed XP in place of Vista about 1 1/2 months ago due to a lackluster performance in the games department. Unfortunately, XP hasn't really improved things. The thing is, the FPS i'm getting in games is quite good, but every so often (less in some games) seemingly regardless of the action on screen, the game will stutter (i.e. pause for a fraction of a second before continuing).

All my drivers are up to date, my hard drive is not fragmented, it happens indiscriminately between new and old games, and does not change even if I reduce the settings to minimum. There are only windows system services running in the background, I have virus scanned, and done just about everything I can think of.

    My specs are:

    T7250 processor @ 2.00 GHz
    8600M GT 256MB graphics card
    2GB RAM
    250GB Hard Drive

If anyone could suggest something, that would be fantastic.

If you're playing on battery power the performance out of the graphics is automatically decreased with certain drivers.

My XPS 1530 does 3dmark06 BASIC at 4720 3dmarks with Aero on.

This is at the default 1280X800 resolution unchangeable because i have the basic edition. IS THIS good bad or normal?

remember i have the basic edition...

I have looked on these forums before but i dont think ive seen basic editions taken into account without being confused with the payed version or different resolutions on different screens.

    Cheers,

    Choco

Honestly, the amount of "bloatware" on a standard M1530 is pretty minimal. If you're not a tinkerer by nature, don't worry about it now. There's plenty of time to monkey with changing stuff around later. Just spend some time making sure that everything seems to work as expected and getting to know your system.

Thats pretty good. At least, thats good compared to mine running Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition. i was getting 4100 with the stock clockspeeds on my GeForce 8600 using the 169.09 drivers (for vista x64). When I used RivaTuner to bump it up to I think 650/850 (clock/memory) I got 4750. I think i'm going to load the 32-bit version of Vista and see what the performance numbers are. I don't have anything running on my notebook at all other than windows and McAfee VirusScan 8.5i Enterprise. I keep it very lean.

Just got my M1530 today, still getting used to it. I've never owned a laptop before, and it's so weird having to look down at a monitor. :p

    Anyway, I have all this:
-Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T8300 (2.4GHz/800Mhz FSB, 3MB Cache)
    -256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
    -3 GB DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz (2 DIMMs)
    -1280x800 resolution

My games run smoothly. Yet, CoverFlow in iTunes runs like a slideshow. It's just simple 3D, and it worked great on my old computer that was much slower than my XPS. I even have the battery-saver mode set to "High Performance."

EDIT: Seems to be a driver issue. I'll check it out.

Oh! Talk about a bonus. I just figured out that this is actually a 1440x900 resolution screen, when it was listed as 1280x800 in the Outlet.

Then again, I should probably check the rest of the system to make sure they didn't send me the wrong laptop... but, if this sucker has Blu-Ray, Dell ain't gettin' nuttin back. :p

Due to the day that he purchased it, I'm betting there was nearly a 30% discount or something going on. Currently the only deal you're going to get is the $599 off when you start with the one on the far right with bright orange border (15” Mobile Entertainment Center), listed as their "Best" option.

OK so when I configured all the stuff, it came out to be $1,643.71. I think I'm going to wait for some major discount coupon.

Oh ok, well thats fairly good news, I am using these magic drivers that increased my 3DMark score 600 points, from the dell website, but they are from the inspiron 1520 i think... dont qoute me on it, but it was truly surprising to get a great score off a dell driver.

Oh Also has anyone played the Crysis demo on this machine? The game optimized my settings to medium, which at some points caused some FPS drops in action sequences at 1280X resolution. Native res at 1400X is unplayable.

Does this sound reasonable for this machine?

    Cheers,

    Choco

So I've been lurking for a while reading up on this and other threads, and I finally ordered my M1530 tonight. :) I should thank all of you for all the helpful info posted! It helped me out a lot.

I'm jazzed about this new system to say the least - my old laptop that died recently was a 7-year-old HP Omnibook 6100.

    Here's the specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9300 (2.5GHz/800Mhz FSB, 6MB Cache)
    Flamingo Pink
4GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz (2 Dimms)
Glossy, widescreen 15.4 inch LCD (1280x800) & 2.0 MP Camera
    256MB NVIDIA® GeForce® 8600M GT
    320GB 5400rpm SATA Hard Drive
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium Edition SP1
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW (DVD/CD read/write)
Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition
    Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card
WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
    Adobe® Acrobat® Reader 8.1
    No Microsoft Office
    McAfee SecurityCenter with anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, 24-months
3Yr In-Home Service, Parts, Labor, 24x7 Phone Support
Accidental Damage and LoJack Theft Protection to 3Yr Warr.
    Adobe Photoshop + Premiere Elements
    Finger Print Reader XPS M1530
    No ISP requested
Dell Wireless 355 Bluetooth Internal (2.0+Enhanced Data Rate)

I'm trying to figure out if the Adobe Photoshop included is Elements or the full Photoshop. It was included in the deal I got so I'm not too worried if it's plain Elements.

Gah, and one question: Does anyone use The North Face Surge backpack with a M1530 that has a 9-cell battery? How does it fit? I saw another review with a different 9-cell that fit but wanted to double check here before ordering one.

chocolambot - I have the full Crysis game already for my desktop, so when my machine gets in I'll do a little runthrough and see how it is. I'll have to play it only at 1280x800 resolution (I ordered that res because of eye strain, heh) but at least it might paint a clearer picture about the gameplay.
