cheers, I was actually playing it alright on 1400X all medium just then (some bad FPS in close combat though) however, my temps got up to 75,76 degrees C on the GPU. Is that normal?

Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've been reading that temperature is okay while you're gaming with this card.

This thread in particular seemed like a good one to look at for more info:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=262288

    Hope that helps!

My 1530 came today, and honestly I couldn't be more happy with it. With all of the horror stories I was reading on these forums I was pretty nervous that I would also get a lemon of some sort...but luckily everything was intact and working properly when I opened the box.

The only trouble I've had is getting used to Vista after spending so many years with XP...so far I definitely like XP better, but I'm sure I'll get used to Vista.

I just got word that my 1530 is being held up by the video card. They're waiting for stock. It was supposed to ship on the 30th. Ordered on the 3rd of June.

    CONGRATS!!!

I've had mine for 4 months now and still extremely happy with it.
Remember, for every horror story, (which is usually posted here) there are thousands of Happy stories, (of which most don't post).

I felt the same way about Vista in the begining, but grew to like Vista.
I run XP on my desktop and Vista on my XPS... the way it was meant to be.

I hate how people talk down on the 8600m card in the m1530 like its the demise of the laptop. I told my friend what specs I had ordered for a $1900 machine which included T9300, 4GB RAM, 320GB HD, and when I mentioned the video card he was like "AHAHAAHA MAN YOU GOT RIPPED OFF, I GOT MY ASUS FOR LIKE $1200 WITH ALL THE SAME SPECS BUT A BETTER GRAPHICS CARD!!!"

IMO the DDR3 graphics card is pretty powerful and will be able to run all the new games for the next 2 years atleast...

After 3 weeks I decided to try out the 1530's HDMI connecting it to my LCD and I cannot get anything to work. I thought all I would have to do is connect the HDMI cable and change the sound settings? Oh yea, I have tried Fn+F8 but nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

NotNoRmAL you should try disconnecting your HDMI cable, trying a different HDMI input on your tv, and restarting your laptop with the HDMI cable plugged in until you can figure out what allows your computer to recognize that the tv is connected. The screen will most likely flicker a little and you will hear a noise if the computer has recognized the tv. I always plug in the HDMI cable to my computer first and then the TV.

I don't know man, my system was $1380 with a 2 year warranty and 2 year accidental. Asus laptops on Newegg.com with the exact same specs as my XPS M1530 are between $1349 and $1500. So right on par with Dell's pricing. Also Asus does not offer all the screen options, wireless options, etc. that Dell offers. With Asus, however it comes is how it comes, theres not options at all. The XPS M1530 is in no way a ripoff as long as you get it during a sale or with a coupon, which is not hard at all. They have sales almost every weekend and on random days all time. A MacBook Pro with the same specs as my XPS costs $800 more and it has a lower resolution screen, no Vista included, no accidental, and a measly warranty.

Thank you "arknsashilbilly" for you suggestion, not sure what happened but it's working now. I got up this morning and thought I would give it a try again and the 1530 HDMI connection to my LCD TV worked perfect. Go figure, I must not have been holding my mouth right last night. :D

I got my XPS a few days ago and Im loving it. I have a few questions for my fellow XPS owners -

Was I suppost to get the mini DVD controller or does that only ship if you buy add a Blu-ray player?

I want to match all the windows, Messgener and Firefox to go along with the Vista "black" task bar. Does anyone have links to a Firefox theme and how I can change the windows within vista to match the "black" color.

The remote control? It should be in your leather CD holder and manual case. The black one with the XPS logo on the front.

Did you get yours brand new, or did you get a Refurb? If its new (or refurb), did they do something odd and put it in the ExpressCard slot for you on the right side of the laptop (in front of the slot-DVD drive?

Are you in the US? If you are and you didn't get the binder, give Dell a call. I think in some other countries the binder might not be included, but I don't specifically know which ones.

Its a brand new XPS..I got it during the Dell Deal days. I got no leather case and where the DVD controller should be is a plastic frame in the shape of the controller. Is Dell going on the cheap side or did they just forget my dvd remote? If I didn't get the leather case, then they might be fazing it out or something :p

The remote control is still in the advertisements on their website (the slideshow that scrolls through when looking at the M1530 and which model to start with).

So yeah, you should've gotten it. I'd call them up and tell them you didn't get the remote and binder.

Was your remote control and leather binder listed on your bill? Did the binder and remote ship in its own box or did everything ship in the same box along side the laptop?

Not listed on the bill. Came inside of the box with the laptop. Inside of the Brown cardboard Dell box was two white XPS boxes. The top one housed the leather case (which housed the remote, earbuds, cleaning cloth, and manuals). Also in the top box was the PSU and a A/C 3 plug power adapter. The bottom box was the laptop inside of a thin material case.

He's referring to the power supply unit, which is more commonly referred to as the A/C adapter, power brick, blah blah on laptops.

My apologies for asking this since I know this was covered recently but I cannot find the thread/post where I saw it, soooo ;)

What is the preferred driver for the 8600M GT? I found a site with GeForce drivers, but it would not install. Then while searching for a driver that works, I saw that apparently we can only use certain modified ones.

    Thanks for the help

Edit - nevermind, I found the thread I was thinking of

I just got off the phone will Dell.

Told them how I didn't receive the Express card DVD remote and leather binder.

The guy just repeated that those where extra and I had to place a order with the sales department.

I kept repeating that the remote and binder are listed to come with all XPS laptops. I said fine I don't the remote or binder, and the rep said that I "NEED" to have the express card and binder.

I said I'm not paying extra for stuff that should have come with my computer.

He directed me to sales and I hung up.

    Hooray for uniformed customer service.

You should try to talk to a supervisor. Frequently the low level guys have no idea what they are talking about and then after they talk to a supervisor they do a 180.

Hello all! Just received my 1530 after seeing many good reviews on this forum. I had some dead pixels in the upper left hand corner, called dell and told them that I saw 8-10 dead pixels in two bunches and they sent a tech who came the next day and replaced my screen with one with zero dead pixels. So far I am very happy with dell and the comp. BTW my remote was in the affliction looking xps box in the packaging. Oh, and whamerman is right.

What resolutions creen do you have? That''s a good chunk of dead pixels. I also want to emphasize, as kooler pointed out, that the remote comes separate from the leather binder. They are in the same white xps box, but the remote is not located in the binder.

I am in Canada, and just received my 1530 last Friday and it came with two boxes, the leather binder, earphones, cleaning cloth, and the remote. It wasn't listed on any of my invoices or anything, so it should just be a standard item that comes with your order...I would call them back and insist that they send it to you.

Looks pretty good to me. That's about the price I paid for mine. Would have gone with a bigger hdd, but that's just me.

Thanks. I thougt this harddisk is enough for me. How much free space (160 GB Hard disk) will be available while getting the new laptop?

Actual usable space after formatting works out to be around 130 GB.
