Wow, you have been waiting for a while!

Maybe in a one and a half weeks. Hopefully, Dell won't have a shortage of the 9-cell batteries.

I've been hearing that the 175.97 driver from dell for the m1330, which just came out, will work with the m1530 since the driver supports the 8600m.

Is this true? Am I better off sticking with the 174.31 driver from dell or will this one most likely increase gaming performance?

According to DHL's tracking system, my m1530 is "With delivery courier." Yay! Unfortunately, I won't be able to use it until I get home from work...the waiting will suck.

Welll, mine's in Memphis and has been since Friday...the thing is, I live 20 minutes from Memphis. In fact, I work there (I know, I shouldn't be posting on forums at work...heh) so that somewhat made me mad that I couldn't just go pick it up myself, but I guess that would throw things off... I've been waiting for this thing since I ordered it on June 22, so I guess I can wait a few more hours.

In all fairness, Dell support does suck. :( I've been rerouted by them very often and once to a number that was not in service. Hours and multiple days for support is just stupid and would piss me off to no ends too.

The only kind of support that I've ever tried using is the online chat. And I've never had any problem with it...I guess it's just different issues, though. Also, don't tell them that you're using XP if your computer came with Vista. It took me 20 minutes to convince them that I was using Vista after I let the first XP slip...

Just received mine too! Didn't get the leather binder, cleaning cloth and headphones.

Build quality seems good, haven't found anything off yet but I'll double check later to be sure. Had trouble making the fingerprint reader register my finger but it seems to work after 50 odd tries.

The Centrino sticker is crooked, I need to remove it.

On the whole very happy! I love it thus far!

Edited to add: Anyone know the part numbers for the binder, etc? I am wondering if it's worth asking Dell to send it.

I'm typing to you all on my brand new m1530! Yay! Although I haven't yet decided to update my signature...I'll do that later. I like it; the WUXGA+ screen is quite nice. A little grainy, I think, but it's all good. I received the remote and the binding, but not the earbuds or the cloth (at least I don't think that I got the cloth; I didn't open up most things). I'm trying to decide whether or not I want to put XP on as well...I guess I might try to keep Vista on here for a bit. Is there any software that I just have to have? I might need to try to procure a copy of x64. Also, has anyone attempted the OS X86 project on an m1530? This is probably the wrong thread on which to ask, but I was just curious.

    Hey m1530 owners

I just recieved my laptop today, and I am pleased with the overall performance. However, I couldn't help but notice the hard drive noise. I ordered the 320GB 7200RPM Hard Drive with Free Fall Sensor, Seagate Casey for my XPS m1530, and it creates a noticable and constant clicking noise when I'm away from background noise. It even clicks when I leave the computer alone.

Has anyone else experienced this with their m1530? Do you think there's something wrong with the hard drive, or is it normal?

I dont know if I should post a thread...

I don't know...I just have a gut feeling that I have to return it. When I received it and opened it up, I didn't feel particularly elated or anything. The new battery didn't seem to work as well as mine on my e1505 which is over a year old and keeps reminding me that it will be depleted soon. I also was extremely underwhelmed by the performance of the webcam, didn't particularly like the touch buttons, thought the screen was grainy, etc. Maybe I'm being a bit too picky, but I have to have a computer that's going to last me for the next two years (at least), and while this is spec'd well, I don't believe that it's the one for me. If I've had it for less than a day, and I've already found stuff that I don't like about it, things probably won't improve over time.

    (any other suggestions?)

Pretty much most of the stuff you mentioned. I'm going to college, so I definitely need it to be able to sustain a charge for over 2 hours (my m1530 didn't do this, and I was sad). I also want a big enough hard drive to cover the stuff that I download. 160 was a bit on the small side; I think 250 would be good. I like the 4 GB of ram, even if the 32bit OS can't support it (I'd find a 64 bit version). I'd like something better than a 1280x800 screen, and I've been somewhat spoiled by the WSXGA+ screen on my e1505 (even if it did break once and now has 2 lines of dead pixels). I will be using programs like Mathematica, Maple, etc. and need something that can handle that (my current laptop can do this quite well). I'll be doing video editing, so I would like a webcamera that actually works because I don't want to have to lug around my Orbit.

I had absolutely no problem contacting Dell support and getting them to send me a return label. My problem is finding the laptop that I want. Everyone has been telling me to get a Mac, and I think that it has drilled down into my mind, unfortunately...they're just so expensive, and there are rumors that they will be updated soon. I probably won't be getting a computer until the next set of big deals, unfortunately...which will probably be around December.

    @iemdone

I sorta agree with westcoast01...we all know that a laptops can't compare to a desktops....if it was i think we would all be using laptops instead...

I just built a comp that will last me 3 years at least...i also stocked up on some 1TB HDs so maybe longer. Laptops are just a convenience for people that don't want to be stuck at a desktop all the time...portability my friend.

Regarding the battery issue, I'm sure you gave it a good charge so i have no idea what could be the problem except just a faulty battery.

I would say your just a little too picky.... ...but hey...everyone has their own standards and pet peeves. You may not have liked it yesterday...but i could go both ways if you use it more. There is some time before you have to return it. So why not just try it a few more days and see how it goes unless you are absolutely sure you don't like anything about it.

    Let us know. :D

@iemdone- do you have a 6 or 9cell battery. B/c if you have a 9-cell. Under 2 hours is not common. (unless you were running an ungodly amount of apps). Trust me, the grass is always greener on the other side.

(also mac's are a great option if you are into editing- but remember if you go mac, the name "steve Jobs" begins to sound like "God" to a lot of people) haha

    @westcoast01

I have a 6 cell (long story, don't wanna get into it)...and I was just surfing at about half brightness and after about an hour and a half, Vista tells me to plug in my computer. Like I said, my battery on my e1505, although it is a 9-cell, is better than this new one. But this laptop is done. I will have it no longer after tomorrow (guess I need to move to a new forum); there's no looking back.

Also, with each computer I get, i try to load OS X on it...usually just for the lack of somethign better to do...but is that a sign? And I really would rather not revere Steve Jobs as a supreme leader. I like the OS, sure; it's nice and all, but I've been a Windows kid my whole life. I think the problem is that I've somewhat fallen into the Mac hype, especially with Vista, and I can't consciously get out of it...

Well i wouldn't say leave us forever...input from time to time always helps even if you don't own one...my opinion at least....Every system i get i try Ubuntu...lol....
sorry to say but the closest thing to Steve Jobs i get is the iPhone....for what it can do..its great but can still be improved more....

And yes Vista isn't what its all cracked up to be...but hey....Windows 7 is right around the corner..hopefully.... :D

Windows 7...I wonder if there will be technology to retrofit touchscreens onto ones that are, well, not.

    I've decided what I need:

    1) A laptop with a solid construction (unlike my e1505)
    2) A nice battery life (where the battery lasts longer than 10 months, unlike my e1505)
    3) Dedicated graphics (my 7600gs in my desktop is nice, but it's old technology)
    4) Large hard drive for storage
    5) Bluetooth and Wireless-N
    6) Possibly gigabit ethernet?
    7) Look good and last me for at least 2 years
    8) 15.4" screen (1440x900 or better)
    9) C2D 2.4 GHz or higher
    10) Decent webcam

Yes, I'm picky, but I think I'm going to have to get these things to make me happy. I technically had all of these (except for 10 and maybe 2), but like I've said before, my gut feeling was to not keep it. It pains me, but I just can't keep it.

Speaking of your iPhone, how is it, really? I'm thinking about getting one around Christmas time. I'm going to be replacing my aging Blackjack which has surprisingly managed to get me through over a year with only minor problems (except when the alarm doesn't work, then there are major problems). Plus, if I do end up getting a Mac (?), it would work "flawlessly" with it...

yea no gigabit ethernet either....

regarding the iPhone....i definitely like it better than my blackjack 2. obviously u gotta get use to the typing....i like the new firmware with the free appz....takes less time to browse to some sites when i can just open an app to access it...ebay for example....i like it...but again...everyone has their preferences...alot of my friends hate it with a passion..so you really should see someone u know that has one and play with it....

but back on topic.....LOVE MY m1530...reformatted to 64bit but i have a generic lcd device for my monitor in the device manager...is that correct?....i didn't use the preinstalled version so im not sure......
