Hey there when did you order yours just curious......but yeah if you got 4gb of ram you might as well upgrade to 64 bit......support is better and better everyday plus why stick with old technology when you have a laptop that is ready for new tech. aka 64 bit

i ordered mine on July 8. (using the $599 off plus student discount).
it wasn't supposed to ship until july 24, but i just got an email today saying it's shipped and it should arrive on monday. yeah yeah yeah. i suppose it's time i put my configuration in my tagline.

doesn't dell offer the 64 bit version for free? can i request that online and have them send me the disc or do i need to call them? is replacing 32 bit with 64 bit very complicated? i'd hate to screw up my new machine...

my config is very similar to yours except i went with the 320GB 7200RPM drive. i'm really interested to see this screen firsthand since i've read so much about it and the LED screen in the forums.

Actually Dell doesn't offer the 64 bit version (dont ask me why) but its pretty straightforward when it comes to installing it (although you do need to get your hands on a 64 bit disc....you can download it with a torrent but be sure to get the same as what you ordered, vista home premium, business......then you can use the key for the one Dell sent you to activate the 64 bit version and its actually legal) Check out these threads

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=236361

Sure hope my order goes through pretty quick Im sick of waiting......how long were you in each stage?

thanks. i guess my question is, is it worth the hassle of reinstalling (either the original 32 bit version as Les's thread advises or of a 64 bit version). is it worth the trouble? if i know that in the long run my computer's performance will be much better then i'm up for it, i just wasn't sure how big of a difference it makes. from what i've read the bloatware on dell machines isn't tooo bad--can't i just uninstall the crap programs they included?

i'm not sure what you meant by each stage. when i ordered last tuesday they said july 24 ship date and it remained that way on the dell order status site until i got my email today saying my machine had shipped. hopefully you'll get a similar email tomorrow...

Haha yeah hope so (you have to call dell and they tell you what stage your laptop is in like build kit boxing etc but nvm that) My advice is if you got 4gb of ram you might as well install 64 bit....especially since ppl have put together guides to make it much easier but really its up to you. It is true that the bloatware isnt all that bad, and yes you could just uninstall it, but the way I see it why not help future-proof your laptop....after all 64 bit is the future and the 1530 can take advantage of that!!!

:D I Just ordered mine too. I just can't wait for the damn Montevina platform, and the enhancements aren't that great either I guess. I also bought the Product (RED) version, because I really like the red color and I will donate something to charity too :).

    So here is my config:
    Dell XPS M1530 PRODUCT (RED)
Processor: Product (RED) Core 2 Duo T7250
    Memory: 3072MB 667Mhz
Graphics: nVidia Geforce 8400M GS (128MB)
    HDD: 250GB (5400RPM)
    OS: Windows Vista Home Premium

    Slot loading drive
    802.11N Wireless
    1 Year of support
    Bluetooth
9-cell battery (overhere, in the Netherlands, it is for free!!)
    Fingerprint reader
    15.4" 1280x800 widescreen

It costed me: 807.13 € (which is; 1273.16 US$ according to Google).

It's a fairly good price, I guess. I also got 10% and 5% off coupons and free shipping :). Than again I also have an XPS 420 here at home, and this laptop is purely for school purposes :)

Does somebody know if M1530 supports 2 different external displays at the same time on VGA and HDMI ports? What I mean can I get a separate, different desktop on the laptop screen, monitor 1 and monitor 2. Or is either of the external monitors going to be a copy of the laptop screen. Or are the 2 external monitors going to be 1 copy of each other.

So, how many different desktops at the same time?

in my experience with dual monitors, you can get different desktops, just on will not have the start bar and you can't put different wallpapers on them. I downloaded a program, the name escapes me now, which allowed me to do this. I'm sure that IF you can get the 3 monitors going at the same time, you would be able to have the 3 different desktops that you want

Ordered mine on July 8th and it was originally scheduled to ship August 4th!
However, I just got an email yesterday confirming that my XPS M1530 has shipped. There was like an 8 day delay for the Midnight blue color but I didn't care. It seems to me that dell overestimates on the ship dates just to make sure that their customers will be even happier once they realize it came earlier. I can't complain anyways. The anticipation is killing me.

I wish that my date had been overestimated but sadly was the opposite. It's strange; I got my e1505 within about 4 days of ordering (with the regular 3-5 day shipping). If they delay it again, I think that I'm just going to cancel it...

Yeah, when I ordered my e1505 way back in 2006, they shipped it one day after I ordered it. I know this because I still have the packing slip that came with the E1505.
It seems that the XPS line is much more in demand and they are struggling to keep up with the orders. Rumors are that a XPS refresh is coming out once Dell sells Centrino 2 cpus. So, it's up to you whether you want to wait for the M1540 or whatever it will be called, or be happy with what you ordered and wait a little more for it.

That's where things get a bit iffy for me. I ordered my e1505 a week before the new line (the 1520s) came out. I was not happy when this happened...and I've had so many problems with it. My LCD just decided to quit one day (luckily still under warranty) among other things. It's just the world's worst feeling to have to disassemble a laptop to fix something. I mean, I'm not technologically ignorant, but I definitely wasn't "gung-ho" so-to-speak about opening the thing up. From everything that I've heard, the XPS line is extremely high quality, so I wouldn't have to worry about these problems (as much, anyway). So if this one doesn't end up coming in, I guess that I might just wait until the next line comes out. On that note, as far as the Centrino 2 deal goes, I don't believe that Dell has even mentioned anything about them yet, correct?

What's the best and safest non-scratching way to clean out the dust in the tiny spaces on the outer edges of the screen? I can see a crapload of dust settling in there and it ticks me off that I cannot get at it for some reason...

well you can try to take off the Display Bezel and then wipe the screen off. It takes off quite easily, but you're risking that it won't fit back as good as it was. When i was dissasembling my xps1530, now the bottom of the bezel don't stick in very good, there's a tiny gap, but i don't worry about that, the most important is that i re-attached the webcam and it works again!

the instructions on dissasembly can be found here:
    http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1530/en/SM/HawkeSM0_H.zip

Hi guys looking for a little advise from the other xps1530 owners on the site.
Just wondering what sort of temps other people are getting from the cpu & gpu?

I've got a T9500 slighting under clocked running at around 50, approx 60 under load.

8600 gpu is running at around 60, haven't had a chance to put it under stress to see what it goes up to.

May just me being used to seeing low running temps in my desk top. The laptop temps seem high in comparison but for all I know this could be the norm with laptops of this build.

What are you guys getting temp wise?

    Cheers

Just to add to the "accessories" topic of the last few pages, I got them with Dell Canada. The CD/Manual case, the Creative Labs headphones (amazing headphones, btw), and the remote.

I installed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on it this morning and was shocked at how well it ran!

    @iceboi714

I believe that some other people have asked that question before, and I have been wondering myself. This is what I found afer a little bit of searching.

Concerning the S and P Drop-in-Box Marcom forDHS Notebooks:
    http://www.maximumpc.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=70034&sid=63c9fb53e6c1e55d10f3061c689529bc

They speculate that it's just a catalog that Dell drops into the box, which I believe is probably right as everything I've gotten from Dell has had a catalog with it.

I still haven't been able to figure out what the "Soft Contracts - Banctec" is.

By the way, would you mind saying how much you paid for your system?

Use HWMonitor to measure temps. Yes, it is supposed to come with creative earbuds and leather organizer. The organizer holds the manuals and cleaning cloth and earbuds.

Does the bolded item means I get a free game? XD (I don't know how good / bad the LOTR game is, but it's free?)

It is a trial version. My invoice mentioned it when I got my comp, but it wasn't installed. I spoke with dell and they told me that it was only a trial version and that they would give it to me if I insisted, but gave me the impression that they would have thought I was a bit slow if I did. I got mine through the outlet as well. I recommend checking the screen as soon as you get it for dead or stuck pixels.

    Mwhahaha.

I'll be joining with you XPS guys in two days. I've had enough of Vostro's bulky look.
Though Dell laptops are expensive here, the XPS M1530 will cost me €1400 euros. (That's around $2200 USD).

hi guys, i recently bought a dell xps m1530 and i am having some problems. My user account type is administrator, i tried to create a text file using notepad and saving it into C:\ or C:\Program Files, it says that i do have the permission to save the file in that folder and prompted me to save in the My Documents Folder instead.
I got on the phone with Dell Support and they asked me to create a folder in C:, and then save the file in it. that works but it is too troublesome.
is there any thing i can do to edit the registry for the file permissions? :(

alright, spent many hours on the phone with dell. HORRIBLE SERVICE! and didn't get the remote in the end. frikin A! I talked to many of the sales agents, and they all said that the remote would come with the laptop, but the prikin customer support says that its not a general accessory and that i would have had to order it seperately! what the hell, i hate dell so much

I ordered my m1530 on 7/12/08 and the ESD was 7/30/08, but it shipped on 7/19/08!! I'm surprised it took such a quick time to build, considering the fact that I ordered a few configurations that were supposed to "delay" the shipment date. SO STOKED!

Dang, now I regret ordering next-day shipping which cost $70...well, at least the order will come really soooon :)
