I wouldent get your hopes up. Im pretty sure they wont install 64 bit. if you call and try to get them to they will prolly tell you to cancel and reorder.

No, what I mean is how do I get them to install 64 bit vista? Do I call them about my order, or is it impossible?

i would call them first. If they dont want to do it, then just barrow a disc from a friend or download it off the bay.

Yeah, but where do they get the 64 bit version of it? Do they buy, get it for free because they own a cd key, or do they download it off of bittorrent?

personally I downloaded it off of bittorrent but if you can get a 64 bit dvd from someone you know that will be much easier but the torrent works too.......

Wouldn't getting it via torrent bring up legality issues?

Well kind of........theres controversy over whether or not downloading it is legal but the key dell gives you gives you the right to have a 64 bit system........your system WILL NOT be illegal.......the way I see it your just getting an operating system that you paid for already....but didnt get the one you actually wanted

Wait, isn't there some kind of check that makes sure that your copy of the OS is valid and legal? I don't want to go to jail just because I wanted a 64 bit OS that Dell was too horribly incompetent to give me, even if I called them for it, and then Microsoft wanting to pump more money from me, even though I have a legitimate copy of Vista Ultimate, and essentially want an upgrade similar to a service packet, except better.

Sorry if I seem annoyed, but this is getting slightly ridiculous. I figured a simple call to Dell would fix this.

So yea I installed x64 version....but how do i install the Integrated Sound Blaster Audigy HD Software Edition...it keeps asking to install audio drivers...which i did...is there something I am missing (certain other driver) or is it just not compatible with x64 vista?

LOL your not going to go to jail even if you use a illegal copy of Vista. The worst that will happen is you won't be able to download updates. If you use your Dell provided key then it's legal.

Also my friend just ordered the new asus. Will his windows index score rip my maxed out 1530? WHat index scores are you guys getting on your 1530's?

Still, its a known problem that Dell is trying to push under the rug. If you see a problem coming, even if yo can remedy the aftereffects of such, you generally try to avoid the problem in the first place.

This is so annoying, I don't want to deal with something that I know will eventually need to be sent in for fixing.

Just unboxed my brand new Dell XPS M1530, and I'm amazed how light it is compared to my old Vostro.
The keyboard is also much better. This laptop looks a hundred times better in real life than in pictures, lulz. In pictures I looked it like "meh, seems okay" - but in hand I look at it "wow, so this is an XPS!".

So far I love it, probably the best notebook I've ever had. Ah and I did recive the two bags with it, in-ear earphones, cleaning cloth and remote control. At the moment I'm uninstalling Mcafee trials and other useless stuff. Anyways I'm extremely happy to be one of you, XPS owners now. :)

I posted this in the forum, and no one has answered me in the 20 minutes it's been up, I'm sorry for posting twice in such a short time period, but I would really like to have some help on this as it's preventing me from enjoying my new laptop, also I am assuming that most of you have gone through this procedure, so it won't be hard to help me hopefully. I just got the m1530 yesterday, and I was going through the whole bloatware and removal guide for a fresh install/reformatting. Anyways I am stumped on the ahci step, and don't know where to download it for the xps1530 after searching online I couldn't find anything on the dell support downloads, only 2 other drivers for the SATA drive, could anyone help me with finding a site, or link me? Help would be most appreciated. So far this is a lovely machine and this is the only hicup I have run into so far.

Hmm, so uhh can you guys tell me if its really worth reformatting my laptop when i get it. Will i be able to notice the difference in performance, cause i did this with my desktop (p4 at 3.2 ghz from '05 lol. Xps Gen 5 :D) and it took a while, but damn, it ran faster than it did when i first got it (i reformatted it a few months ago cause of some malware or something). Oh, and is the mcafee subscription any good???

meh, i gotta wait till Monday or Tuesday to get my laptop despite it being here in Brooklyn :/

haha nice!!!! well the big advantage is you can use all of your 4gb of ram which you can do with a 32 bit system........the only downside is you may have to look for a driver here and there and some super old programs may not run on it but I've heard nothing but great things and mine is awesome so far!!!!!!
