McAfee Sucks and takes up too much resourses. Use the free AVG. It works better and takes up much less resources. Trust me on that. -
I JUST ORDERED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
as you can tell i am happy because just a few minutes ago my mom put in the order for me for my new dell m1530. I don't know if i will reformat i might just uninstall some stuff because i saw forte seemed to have slower startup after reformatting.

Can someone tell me if theres a program like the "Express Gate" that comes with the Asus computers?
It runs on start up and lets you perform tasks without opening windows, such as aim, web browsing and such.
Whats your windows index scores on your 1530's? -
My index score is :
Processor : 4.9
Memory : 4.8
Graphics : 5.9
Gaming : 5.6
HDD : 4.8
Specs in sig.
Don't know about the Express thing you mentioned, but Dell has similar thing called MediaDirect for media. -

Yay, finally got my XPS after more than a week or restless nights.
It's a pretty good laptop, and after reformatting, it's even better. -
yayy!!! i finally got m1530
i got it today like around 5 or something. However, i am disappointed with the fact that i have a grainy screen, (at least it think it is). It seems as if the screen was dirty but its not, its just liek taht :/. I also think i have backlight bleeding, the bottom part of the screen is brighter than the rest of it. Can somebody please confirm this. I also didnt get the bonuses. But ill be calling them tomorrow abot the grainy screen with what i think is backlight bleeding and ask for the bonuses or at least a giftcard.. hope this works.
I was also wondering if its normal that 33% of the ram is being used, all the time, or is it just all the bloatware.
BTw my index score is a 5.1, is this good (first time using vista) -
To tell if there is bleeding go to a completely black screen. If you see light around the edges you have bleed. I also have a 5.1 index score, due to my 4gigs of ram on vista 32.
-
ahh i saw the screen saver, which is black and yeah i saw backlight bleeding on the top on and bottom of the screen

Well mine is going back. They're sending a new non refurb replacement.
Left Alt key sticks, have the VGA flicker when power cable is plugged in and of course the defective GPU.
They said because my order was via the paper_wastage found EPP deal, their profit margin is very slim and the best they could offer was $50 coupon, I said keep the coupon, just upgrade the battery from six cell to nine cell. The rep agreed to it.
I would've liked more compensation but oh well, what to do right? -
I haven't tried it yet, but I've read that the vga power cord issue is a design flaw. I also recently flashed my bios to ao9 which is supposed to address the gpu heat issue.
-
SO instead of all the accesories i got a $75 gift card, which imo is better
lol. Ill prolly but a carry bag for my lappie. Now i just get them to sendout a techie to replace my grainy screen. BTw how do you find out what type of screen i got? I looked un properties of "computer and some other stuff, and i got "generic PnP" wth does this mean. Also what is the best 1900x1200 screen? So maybe, i could request it.
ahh sorry for so many questions :/ -
i ordered mine with a 1900*1200 screen, and its been sitting on my aparment gathering dust on its box since the 7/22 because im away, so im sorry but cant tell how the screen is yet

My HDMI to DVI cable arrived quickly and has a nice picture! I suggest others to try and call Dell to see what they offer you if you mention this fact. Let me know. -

I guess I'm an XPS M1530 owner now, at least it's been shipped and received, but sadly I'm out of the country until the 10th so it's just being held.
The estimated shipping date was the 14th. -

anyway i tried to take the best possible pics i could but i dont know if you guys will be able to see the grainyness. Anyway, i pust up pics of my 3yr old dell 1905fp(i think thats it) display. All of them were taken at the same res, and conditions. The pics on the top of the other ones are ffrom the m1530
Backlight bleeding
and one more grainy screen pic at 1920x1080 res
oh yeah the old dell display is non glossy -
MONITOR\SEC3255
what do i make of it? :/ -
oh well hopefully tomorrow someone will do me the favor of picking it up -
Is this something that can get progressively worse? Or is it just an annoyance when you're dealing with a black screen? -
geeze Im bummed out. On on hand its not that bad (compared to Vegabk and daveinto, sorry guys).
Luckily Im still day 15 out of 30 days to return it...but I got a pretty good deal on this (for Dell Canada standards), and its unlikely that if I order a new xps1530 that it will arrive before school starts. worst thing is that most Centrino2 notebooks that have been released/have release dates dont have anything up in canada....on the bright side, he did say if i did decide to return it and say its because of the bleeding, its a legitimate reason and they wont charge the 15% restocking fee
-
Vegabk you have a Samsung monitor. They are the only ones that I know of that make the 1920x1200 screens for Dell. msboc, vegabk and top gun36 the light bleed around the edges is not normal operation. Did you guys try this XPS number: 1800-232-8544? I have read somewhere on this board about people having screens replaced due to bleed. I would search this board and PM those that have been successful. They don't require a pic of the defect. I was asked for one when I told them about dead pixels on my 1st screen, but I don't have a digital camera, so they sent a tech the next day just based on my description. The key is knowing which key words to say. Review the warranty to know the correct wording for the defect. It's sometimes like talking to a lawyer to get them to do what you want.
-
Thanks Kooler, ill be calling them first thing tomorrow, and demand a replacement, I mena come on, this things costs money, i want it to be the closest thing it can be to perfect... I need it to last me throuh all four years of college.
But anywas, i was considering reformatting my lappie, but i dont know what AHCI is or where to get it from, so i can put it on my flash drive. Can anybody please explain this to me? -
Well, the guy was basically understanding about the bleeding, and it only showed on a black screen (aka watching a dvd with black bars on top and bottom) but still said it was normal, I even said my 4 year old inspiron 8600 didnt have this problem, he just said its due to the "manufacturing process" on the xps (right)
I guess I can try to give them a call again tomorrow -
I heard of other people having the problem of the mouse going crazy with the touch pad, but i dont remeamber reading a solution, if there is one (does everyone have a problem with this, or is there a problem with my laptop?). And how do i check what screen i have samsung or LG? I right click on device manager and the only 2 options are open and create short cut. Thanks
-
Well my 1530 arrived today. I have been nothing but impressed with the machiene. All of my worries are now gone (Knock on wood). I installed 64 bit and it looks like everything is working fine. The only problems i have is i see a little backlight bleeding, i will try and get a pic on here to see what people think. And the only other problem i have is that the is a popping noise when i click on stuff and sometimes play music. I am not totally sure what kind of screen i have but it is not grainy at all and i love it.
-
You gotta open up device manager and once its open, double click on moniter and then right click on what pops up and pick properties. Then click on hthe details tab and under the property thing pick hardware id.
ahh can somebody tell me what is AHCI and where can i get it so i can reformat my lappie -
Sorry don't know about Cananian support. AHCI is advanced host controller interface and you enable it in the BIOS.

Vegabk maybe this thread will help: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=271207

T__T my m1530 xps finally had it's first frozen screen due to too much gaming.. i guess the temperature got too high and it froze(therefore i cannot tell wah temp it hitted).. anyone know if increasing ram would help reduce heat a tad? =P

hmm, so once i download the matrix storage manager of the dell supportd site, and save it onto a usb key i set to go, so i can reformat my laptop?
I think the question im trying to ask is: once i get the matrix storage manager driver onto a usb key, i can just follow the reformat vista guide and install the rest of the drivers from the Dell cd?
srry if the q is confusing :/ -
Right of the bat, my experience with Dell product (although I bought an alienware last year) is not a good one. First, they didn't include the earphone which the agent told me that it will be included when shipped. I called their CSR and he doesn't what to do with it. And then, the spacebark is somewhat mis-alligned or slightly tilted to the left. When I played pirates of the caribbean (blu-ray), It played with thick black borders. More than an inch thick and I have a 1920X1200 screen. Plus I noticed some graininess in the playback which I didn't notice when browsing.
I'm leaning on returning it. -

I can now officially post here that I have taken the plunge and ordered my XPS 1530, Woo-hoo!
Supposed to be here around August 11th, can't wait! -
Typing this from my brand new XPS 1530!!!! It finally arrived today!!
Gonna do the clean install // BIOS update // Vista Tweaking when I get home from work
After that ... gonna install Bioshock and Assassin's creed to see how this baby runs -
Thinking of buying this laptop but just two quick questions please?
1. Since I use my laptop with a vga cable for my projector, what is th esolution for me with this design flaw reported where power cord conflicts with vga signal and thanks.
2. Any idea when Dell is going to update to latest Intel chipset? Maybe they have and I just missed it and thanks.

Anyone have a picture of the screen bleeding? I have the LED LCD screen and I put on a black back round, but I can see the top is a little light but I could just be paranoid.
-
@huntnyc:
i dont know about the vga out defect, but i can tell you that the new montevina ( or i think its called that way)
could be coming out on late august or september, but the problem is , noone knows how much more its gonna cost, thats why i bought my xps now, when the offers are good -
did anyone else ever have a proble with the mouse pointer going crazy (just going back and forth all over the screen)? This is when i dont have a mouse plugged in and am using the touchpad. how do i fix this?
-
And it's been fine since I got this replacement computer. However, there have been other issues with my replacement. So if the rest of your computer is fine, see if you can resolve it. Did you call tech support? -
