The upcoming 1440x900 LED backlit LCD display will be glossy. There will be no matte version of displays for this computer. The glossy displays aren't that reflective either. It is only a matter of time to get adjusted to it.

    Another option might be EBay.

I don't know personally, but Frazell agrees that warranty transfers can easily be done. See posts 4 and 6 in:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=189407

Has anybody else managed to get the ownership and warranty transferred from the US to Canada?

It is fairly simple to make a glossy screen not so glossy anymore: There are filters from 3M.

I've bought a new Dell XPS M1530. And I am considering of buying a new monitor. I will buy a samsung 2232BW. Now the question: will I be able to watch the 22inch monitor at a similar time like my M1530. BUT the M1530 shows a part of my background, an the 22inch monitor shows another part of my background. Is that possible that I can use '2 displays' at the same time, so I can swap my mouse from the 22inch directly to my M1530? For compare: you have a desktop with two monitors at the same time ;) .

Hope you will understand my question.
Sorry, but my English isn't the best I can.

Yes you can. Just plug in the other monitor and extend your desktop to it.

WOOHOO...just recieved my XPS M1530 (well ok I did get it yesterday...)
    T7500
    1gb -> Upgraded to 4GB :D
    120 GB HDD 7200 RPM
    8600 GT
    Tuxedo Black
Primary 6 cell, secondary 9 cell

I just want to say  I am so amazed. I feel like a 5 year old on Xmas day!!! Wait a sec, we are Xmas day :p

OK I love this ting, the keybard, the screen (1280 X 800) the slot loading DVD. All amazed. I have to admit, I was getting worried by all the comments from loud hard drive and loud DVD. I know its a question of taste and personal preference but I honestly have to say I have none of these problems. I cannot hear the hard drive at all. As for the slot load drive, it is my first (apart from de cd deck in my car  ) and I was expecting this thing to be really loud. It isn't. Yes it makes noise there is a mechanism that pulls the dvd in the drive so yes it does make noise but not much more than if I push the dvd drive in a T42 or my wife's Acer. OK if you do it gently these things won't make a peep...but if you lightly slam it in..same thing.

The screen resolution, what can I say other than it simply is really good. I didn't have a choice when I first ordered my lappy but I still wouldn't of upgraded if I was able to. In Canada the only other option right now is the 1440 X 900 and is $150 more. In my personal opinion it simply isn't worth it. I would rather spend that money on an external monitor wich would get me an even better resolution on a much larger display say 19" or even 20". I can see some people really want / need / prefer it but in my case I'm very happy.

So if you are worried about the loud hard drive, build quality, loud DVD drive and screen resolution, don't jump to conclusion. It is in the end a matter of personal preference and some people, like myself really, really, really like this laptop :D

Have a wonderful X-Mas and enjoy!

Just got my M1530 a week or two ago. I just found out about this site today so I figured I'd post my take on it...

Since I received this laptop, I've not had the urge to use anything else. I've got another gaming Desktop and a crappy HP Desktop at my disposal. My 1530's specs are...

    Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz, 4MB L2 Cache, 800MHz FSB)
    Glossy 1280x800 Screen *unfortunately*
    1GB DDR2 667 *Will Upgrade this week*
120GB 5400RPM Hard Drive *Will Upgrade later*
    Slot Load DVD+/-RW
    256MB Nvidia Geforce 8600M GT
    85 WHr 9-Cell Battery

At first I was VERY disappointed that I couldn't get XP pro on the laptop, but I've adjusted to Vista fairly well. The biggest hold-back is the 1GB of Ram. Vista runs fairly poorly under 1GB of ram... I'm gonna purchase 4GB of Mushkin ram tomorrow =D.

Hard Drive space isn't a big issue to me since I've got around 600 gigs of storage on another machine on my network. I plan on upgrading to a 7200RPM drive sometime later next month.

The only resolution that they offered, when I ordered mine, was the 1280x800. That was, slightly, discouraging to me but the screen looks fabulous anyway. It would be nice to have a little more height on the screen, but the backlight's bright as it can be and the display is as crisp as I've seen in any LCD.

Battery Life is great. I've been using my laptop today *Christmas day* on the battery since I woke up at 11:00AM *It's now 6:00*. I did get the 9-cell battery which helped a lot. The battery has not lasted 7 hours. I've had it in sleep mode probably half of the time *which equals out to 3.5 hours of actual use* and I've still got around an hour of battery life left.

All things considered, this is the best laptop that I've ever had. I don't regret my purchase at all. I spent around 1400-1500 dollars for my laptop and accessories. I got 12 months no interest on my XPS financing. That'll help a lot. =D

If you are confident with computer drivers, check out this thread about downgrading Vista to XP on the M1530:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=193815

Or you could wait until Dell releases all the XP drivers itself. Dell is expected to offer Windows XP as an option on new M1530's. I suspect it will be in the next couple of weeks.

I agree with you, no noise was there on DVD, or HD.... It's a great machine... The LCD was also very nice, but since I had to return my laptop because of "put togeather problem' I then got the new LCD resolution , in the uS it's cheaper 100 for the higher one 1050X1680

I just have to say I love watching dvds on this. The remote is also very handy when watching from the bed. I really love this laptop, it's great. Except for the problem with closing the lid and the touchpad going crazy. I just switched it back to going to sleep[rather than doing nothing when the lid is closed] because I'm impatient and cant stand waiting for the mouse to return to normal.

It's a little warm on my lap, and I can feel the HDD during heavy use (ex: Crysis), but it's very manageable.

Compared to the Athlon X2 in my desktop it does get hot. Idles around 45C, web browsing or music will take it up to 50C. While gaming it does hover around 75C (this is the only time that I actually hear the fan, but only if the game sound is muted). Despite the high temperatures, the laptop is still relatively cool on the bottom. The only places that get *hot* on the laptop are the front where the wireless card is, and the hard drive heats up after being on for a long time.

Thanks for the info! I do work and type a lot on my computer and had read that it does get "hot" to the hand when typing. Sounds like it is a small issue and the benefits of the M1530 outweights this negative.

Could you argue about the glare on the screen? I looked at some 1530 photos and it looks like there's a lot of glare.

Helmut, if you don't like the glare you could get a 3M filter.

Yes, I'm considering getting one, but, do you mean one of those big framed filters? (didn't found anything non-framed besides privacy filter 3M branded).
I wonder if there's some simple plastic anti-glare film out there.

Seems to be a little bit off topic, I'm just looking for glare feedback on the 1530.

Thanks anyway (still looking for filters).

Just got my "ruby red" 1530 today and I can really say I am totally impressed. Love the color and the features. Bluetooth works great with my headphones.

It does seem a little slow, but do you think it is because I only ordered it with 1 gb ram with the intention of upgrading. Would it be better to get 2 sticks of 2gb's each , total of 4gb, or just get one stick of 2gb and end up with 2.5 gb? My processor is the 2.2 intell processor.

Other than the speed I am totally satisfied.

Great computer--the size, the weight, the performance.

Honestly it all depends on what you'll end up doing. To be honest with the price of RAM right now so cheap might as well go for 4gb, sooner or later you'll be able to use it all. Vista will only "see" roughly 3.5 gb even if you put in 4!

Just got off the phone. My ship date is sometime mid January. I got a great deal in my opinion. I got all that for $1461 after S&H and taxes [$80 :(]. And with all those 3 year warranties I have a feeling this will be my laptop for a LOOOONG time. If anyone's curious, I used the coupon on Page 19 as my base laptop and upgraded from there. It's the best deal you can find if you're going to install your own RAM.

I'm really NOT looking forward to uninstalling all the bloatware first :(

I hate you. I ordered mine on the 16 and had it the 26th. Ten days.

    Suckage.

Anyone else had a problem where their speakers buzz at high volume? I'm pretty annoyed because of it. Definitely going to complain.

you are right, you need more ram for the vista... if you are going with vista 32 then 3GB ram is good,. if you are thinking of going to 64 then you it will see the 4GB ram

I got my 1530 on Dec 18th... however, I am having an issue with it. Whenever it goes into sleep mode, I can't get it back. I have to hold the power button until it turns off, and then turn it back on. Is there any fix for this?
