Any of the M1530 owners faced the infamous Graininess or CPU whining or the headphone jack noise?
Though graininess was more common on WXGA+ resolutions of Inspiron/Vostro.

Heat spreader spreads the heat around to cool the compoment quickly. Dell XPS M1530 does not support memory modules with heat spreaders.

The Dell XPS M1530 will support PC2-6400 (800 MHz) memory modules but they will run only at 667 MHz and therefore waste your money. Buy PC2-5300 (667 MHz) memory modules for Dell XPS M1530 for best performance.

Got mine yesterday, and this thing is sick. Playing Crysis on medium settings, which is what the recommended settings were. Not bad at all. Thing is blazing fast, and the build is very solid. Couldn't be more satisfied honestly. Ended up upgrading to 2.5gb memory, ordered it with intel 2.2ghz, 120gb 7200rpm hd, 8600gt, sound blaster audigy, etc.

look at the top, there's a tab saying "Dell Coupons", right beside the "Discussion" tab.

i guess u don't need to be a u.s. citizen, but they will only ship within the u.s.

They used to be rare, but the product line has expnaded significantly. And we've seen a number of coupons just in the last couple weeks, so it is possible that Dell will discount the XPS line in a similar fashion to the other lines.

I am having second thoughts on my purchase now that I know higher resolution screens will be available. This will be my backup computer so it will not be used for gaming unless my primary laptop is unavailable. Who is the manufacturer of the 1280x800 screen in these laptops?

(I did get a pretty good deal though. $300 off and a $200 gift card)

When making purchases, you should always be 100% sure you're satisfied with the current offering for your needs.

As fast as technology moves these days, you can't always been looking to the future or you'll never buy anything!

I had an old Sony external LDC monitor and it was 1280x1050 and I though it was fine. My primary laptop is 1920x1200 and since I need glasses for reading it is fine. If i had perfect vision I would not have gotten such a high res screen.

Anyone know if by selecting the ExpressCard X-Fi SoundBlaster card, I've opted out of the internal sound solution?

I was hoping that the ExpressCard would be purely an addition to the integrated sound card, to be used when I'm gaming or looking for better quality sound in general, but not 24/7.

    Anyone know?

    Thanks!

Dell only ships 32 bit version of Vista. You can request a 64 bit version of disc to be shipped to you directly from Microsoft for a small fee.

Alternatively, if you can get a 64 bit version of Vista from your friend/colleague/internet you can use it to install as the CD Key you have (on your 32 bit version of Vista supplied by Dell) will work for both 32 and 64 bit versions.

Well this morning cinched the deal. Got on the dell website to check some configurations, low and behold they added the 1680x1050 glossy widescreen in the configuration menu. ontop of that throw in $669 bucks off right away, and the 10% discount i get makes this very pleasing, will be ordering it shortly. hope i can also use the $300 coupon. Already can't wait for it to arrive

You can try the following as well. Search on the dell website for "dydwhjc".
You'll find a lower version of the $669 discount there.
It has the "Trend Micro Internet Security 36-months (Included in Price)" so remember to de-select it (unless you actually want it).

It gives a discount of $400 and includes the 3yr warranty.
Unfortunately looks like there are no coupons available.

There's a Member Purchase Program where you get an additional 8% discount , but those configurations don't allow the higher resolution displays yet.

Just got my new 1530 in, DHL a day late, but 100 less from a friendly Dell rep. Couple of quick first thoughts

    1. Alpine white looks great on the notebook.
    2. Hard drive noise, not really a factor, replacing with a hitachi 7200 drive later.
    3. Finger print device, not a big deal but I like it. Makes loging in quicker.
    4. Wireless N works well.
    5. 1200 x 800, think I can live with it since I am going to be using primarily a 22" monitor at the office. For my road trips, I think it will be OK. If I was going to be using the res all the time, I would definately opt for the Higher res.
    6. Screen itself is very nice.
    7. Did I mention I love the look of the Alpine white.

I have to swap out the mem to 4gb and the above mentione hard drive. I am going to test 3dMark, boot time, and some program opening times with the current 1mb and 5200 hard drive. Then compare against the 4mb and 7200 to see the difference with the upgrade. If you have any other tests btw the two you would like me to run, let me know.

Hey guys, I'm a Canadian resident and I'm wondering if the American site would ship to Canada as well? Since not only does the American site allow for more customization, there's also a sweet 669$ off, compared to 200$ for Canada. Also, this offer is limited time, expires Jan 31, but I got screwed last time with the 200$ offer that expires after 3000 uses, so is there any confirmation that this isn't a limited use offer as well?

And one more quick thing, with all the negative feedback on the one choice of screen resolution, I guess now that there's 3 options, the higher the better? I will be using the laptop mainly for school work and entertainment (movies, games). Thanks!

You cannot order from Dell USA to be delivered to Canada. Why don't you get it delivered near the USA border and pick it up?

Each display resolution has a specific purpose:
    1280x800 is suitable for Games
1440x900 is suitable for Spreadsheet, Design & Production Applications
1680x1050 is suitable for Remote Maintenance

Higher resolution display isn't always better. There are still a lot of unresolved issues with 1440x900 and 1680x1050 resolution displays. By opting for these displays you are more likely to get a defective one. (I only hope that none of you will get one though)

If you can't make a choice, you won't go wrong with 1280x800 resolution display. Most 19 to 21 inch flat panel LCD monitors still have 1280x800 or 1280x 1024 resolution displays.

If you work and see lot of Dell computers in your office, your company is likely to have Employee Purchase Program with Dell. Ask your Office Administrator or IT Purchase Officer/Manager about it. If you are studying you can get similar deals from http://www.delluniversity.com/ Even otherwise, if you have AAA Card ( http://www.aaa.com/) you can go to http://www.aaa.com/dell and use them as your EPP.

    Did this information help?

    Hey guys:

I have a question. Exactly what kind of screwdriver do you need to open the panel that covers the memory module on the m1530?

Dell discourages that (otherwise, they couldn't gouge Canadian customers):

Heh dang, thanks for the help guys. Aside from resolution, I am also interested in the LED display, which I've heard rumours is coming not too long after holidays. I like the non-glossy LED display of my current laptop, though I've never used a glossy display before so I guess I may be biased lol. But I can imagine that the added reflections would hurt my eyes after extended use @_@
