Wow, you guys got great deals. I ordered mine and it came out $1800 before tax.

Same specs as in signature, just change to an i7-720QM and a Blu-ray burner.

:D While all this talk is nice, I'm afraid that this thread will be gigantic soon. ANY information needs to be brought/updated to the first page. :)

Like, one thing Cin: On most people's orders, it says WLED, even if they got the RGBLED. This should save some double-posts.

These are ALL RGBLED, confirmed by myself, a few other users, and Dell confirms the first one:

    320-8335
    320-8341
    320-8332

Wait, how are you getting Windows 7 Upgrade around the same time? I ordered my i71645 about a week or so ago now and when I ordered for the "free upgrade" it said that you had to wait until you RECEIVED the laptop before you could order the upgrade disc, and then you'd have to wait even longer for the upgrade, which is pretty stupid...

EDIT: My estimated delivery date is also November 3rd. Though when I ordered it said October 30th, which was enough of a let-down. November 3rd felt like a slap in the face when I saw it changed to that.

He isn't getting it the same time. He was wondering if that was true.

That is a bit messed up, really. And MS will be *overloaded* with sending out upgrade discs, I'm sure. I sure hope they ship quick.

this is correct. I wondered if/assumed that I'd get them about the same time (didn't realize you need the barcode from the laptop to get a disk). After getting more info about the upgrade program, I wouldn't be surprised if ikjadoon is right and there's a several week wait for upgrade disks.

Do not think so....external, of course, but I don't think you can put it internally anywhere.

Maybe MS will get it right and have lots of them ready. But I doubt it. :(

how did you guys get the RGB screen with BD writer and Core i7 under $1500 before tax? The price is changing everyday and ordering from Dell Home or Dell EPP comes out to be the same.

    A little help?

You're right the price changes daily it seems. I ordered when they first came out, 9/26, and there was an instant savings of $450 and EPP gave me another $110 (7%). The full price was $2,050 and I paid about $1480. I would think the prices won't go back down until Windows 7 is released. Also, you won't see your EPP discount until you are done configuring and put the computer in your cart.

ordering now through EPP: no leather option and the instant savings are less than $200??

Why is it more expensive now?

Should I order through Dell Home, then login with EPP, OR directly through EPP site?

I ordered mine on 9/25 and was able to get the same 450 instant savings plus the EPP discount. That is how I got my XPS 16 for under 1500.

If you are a EPP member, and want the greatest savings and are seeing a *better deal* at Dell Home....*Configure* your Order..*Save it to your cart*..Then call Up a EPP Rep. They are supposed to Price Match and/or beat all Dell Current Home Pricing + give you your 7% savings, and always free shipping!

So, if I wanted my EPP to match THIS DEAL, I would just tell him I have it configured, and saved to my Cart ~ and all he would have to do is pull it up to get the *approval* for the price match going. And, that would include the $100 GC Promo + my 7% EPP savings on top of that.

Sometimes the deals thru EPP are more expensive than what you are seeing thru the deals on Dell home, that is why you always have to look at Dell home, first! :) I just got an excellent deal on a 32" LCD TV that EPP had to PM per Dell Home standards!

I haven't looked around much but I've been keeping my eyes on these drives:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Value=4215:30857&PropertyCodeValue=4215:49216

They are Solid State Drives that go in the Express Card slot. Some of them work for express card and also have USB 2.0 on them. For the past 4 months they had a 32GB and 64GB listed for cheaper prices from FileMate but it seems they have dissappeared from the listing for now (they were never in stock, always estimated to be receieved).

But as for future expansion it wouldn't be bad... I've considered installing the OS on this as for my 1645 I have the internal drive using a 320GB 7200 RPM drive. But I don't think Windows allows it by default, would need some experimenting.

SSDs via expresscards have been pretty bad in terms of speed. There hasn't been enough interest to get good controllers in this form factor. And you won't be able to boot from it since the BIOS doesn't recognize expresscard as a bootable drive.

Yes, check the hardware section for tons of SSD info or search NBR. The SSD is the Samsung Gen 2. It will definitely be many times faster than the fastest notebook 7200RPM drive (even any desktop/server drive).

    Hola,
I've been lurking here for a few weeks and can hold on no longer as I'm bursting with a question :)

A little background though. I need a new notebook as my current one (Dell XPS 1710) has a cooked GPU, this is the 2nd notebook I've sent to the graveyard with this problem, playing MMOs is the cause of death.

So this time I'm going for a 3 year warranty and have been looking at the Studio 16 as the weapon of choice as I dont need overly powerful gfx for MMOs and like the weight/general speed of this vs the 17s (And the alienwares are damn ugly imo). I ordered one with the 2.8 cpu a couple of weeks ago but cancelled it when I got the delivery date as I'm going to be away from home until November and they couldnt deliver it before I left.

So - the question. Does anyone have any idea how much better the 1.6 I7 is going to be vs the 2.8? The 1710 was great for gaming but quite slow in general and I want a machine that flies, the cost difference between the processors in the UK atm is around 400 dollars so it would need to be impressive, I've been unable to find any good info apart from the euphemistics - fastest processor on the planet etc, but I have no idea what that actually means in relative terms. Apologies for being so longwinded, look forward to hearing opinions or getting some links to benchmark comparisons.

    Cheers
    Richard

Depends what you use your computer for. Any sort of calculation based program such as MATLAB or video rendering/encoding will be much faster on the 720QM. Only CPU limited games will have a fair increase in performance depending on their multicore optimizations (most are GPU bound though). On basic tasks, it will perform the same (since they won't tax either processor). I'd say at worse about the same, at best a couple times better (4 cores and 4 threads vs. 2 cores).

I cannot wait to order the Dell XPS 1645 with the i7 Core processor once Windows 7 ships. The 1333mhz 4gb ram looks impressive. Everyone can't seem to say enough about the RGBLED screen :D

Anyone know of any deals Dell plans to offer with the release of W7?

How is the heat with the new i7 Processor?

How is the SoundBlaster X-FI card?

In Europe Dell are saying if you order now theyll upgrade it to 7 for you on the 22nd before its sent out - in other words can already order it with 7. I'm wondering if you get a Vista key still if you do that, always nice to have spare keys.

I'm starting to get worried about the RAM thingy. It looks quite expensive to get it up all the way to 8GB, like 700$. Will it get cheaper with time? I mean it obviously is going to get cheaper, but will it come any closer to the 200$ you pay for 8GB DDR2?

I bet it will ship before your 11/12 EST (usually always over-projected for reasons to protect Dell from potential production probl's like delays, etc). :)

Yes, it's a nice Mouse..I have it :) I *bounce* with it on my 1530 and my Mini 9 Netbook! The *syncing* of the BT between your Mouse and your 1645 will be quick and easy! Oh Snap! :p :D

And answering this question for you has made me realize that the price in my confirmation e-mail is about 100 dollars less than the price in original setup/acknowledgement e-mail. ? All my specs look good, so I can't complain. Strange though.

Edit: I might have to buy the Zalman NC2000 with the newly created cashflow. :)

Question about the bing cashback here, I remember seeing somewhere in bing cashback terms that the cashback cannot be combined with in store offers. Which in this case would mean that we cannot get a cashback since dell already has an offer on xps 1645. I could be mistaken though

Has anyone got the cashback amount in their account?

Almost identical to the one I ordered Saturday except I skipped the Blu-ray and went with the 500GB drive for $1533.00 before sales tax. My estimated delivery date is 11/09.
