    According to DELL, They will be having some deal breakers upon the release of Windows 7. Windows 7 will ship pre-installed on systems starting Oct 22 according to DELL. They should have them shipping with Windows 7 NOW, as anyone who orders now will most likely receive after the 22nd. Vista needs to go FOR GOOD!!!

    Wouldn't the systems start to be built in Production now with Win 7? As, the release date is less than 1.5 weeks away? That way the ones that have an EST shortly after..can be shipped and *ready to go*? That is, how production works? :)

    I mean, I spoke to Dell this afternoon and they told me that systems won't show up with the Windows 7 pre-installed option until the 22nd which is ridiculous because anyone who orders now will get Vista pre-installed even though they will receive after the 22nd?

    Last week we started adding win 7 to systems, so even if you order now (depends on system) you will get win 7 on arrival. All should show win7 available by 10-18

    Everyone who has ordered their system with Win 7, will get Win 7 on their ESD ~ if showing on or before 10/18, and after 10/22 (the official release)???

    So great, if I order now...and I get an ESD on 10/17..according to you..it's shipping with Win 7!!! Awesome!

    Not to pile on with the questions, but does this mean there's a chance the 1645 I ordered on 10/6 with an EST of 11/9 will come with 7 and I won't have to go through the BS of installing a new OS on my brand new computer? That would be nice :p

    All I can say is that most of the systems being build not will have win 7 on them, I am not promising that if you order today that you will get it but chances are you will. To be honest if you really want win 7 then I would wait another week at least before ordering.

    Oh so so true. I've been waiting since May to get a laptop with pre-installed Windows 7. Waiting is a killer, sure I can order next week but then probably have to wait a month. OH well something to look forward to while I work my you know what off in school :D

    Yup it has been a long wait. I hope once its released that people won't bash it. I hope it gets a lot of positive reviews as its already gotten from the RC and RTM versions. Oh well time will tell. I just want them to retire Vista for good. I browse Best Buy and HP, and still see it as the main OS and I'm just blown away, we're so close and people are still getting Vista pre-installed. Not everyone who buys a computer NOW will want to go through the hassle of 'upgrading' when they just bought a new PC, they shouldn't have to do that NOW.

    Considering the i7's aren't out until end of October AFAIK, I wouldn't expect anyone to have a 1645 at their doorstep until early November to be safe.

    intel hasnt began shipping the core i7 mobile chips and the new chipset along with it. so dont expect delivery of studio 1645 anytime soon.
    its just a pre-order.

    They are probably not available by etailers because Intel is giving everything they've got to their main customers (i.e. Dell, Sony, etc). But Intel did release them in late September and people have been receiving them (check the Alienware thread to see). But as far as I know, no i7 SXPS's have been received by anyone yet. A lot of us have an EDD of October 26th or 27th...so we'll see!

    Haha, no, it's not that I want to wait.

    I'm in my freshman year of college and if something goes wrong (highly doubt it), then I'll be out of my very-much needed computer. And it'll probably take me a few hours (which don't sound like much, but the college I go to demands time-management). If this wasn't so needed, I'd be all over it. Heck, I would've bought my disc by now. I mean, I overclock my computers, so it isn't a risk issue (lol). It's just a time thing. :(

    I'll probably try it over Thanksgiving break if I'm not too bogged down with finals. :)

    Ooh, it'd be nice to get it early. :D :D :D Something eerie: when I first purchased it, it said estimated October 13th (today!), but then it got bumped a few weeks. Maybe that was the "true" shipping date, but they pushed it back for safety?

    I will get this notebook someday before the holiday's end, i think i will just get the 1.6 quad core i7. 1.6 times 4 and then turbo mode times 8 i pretty powerful. ikjadoon what college do you go to? I go to rutgers, i always make sure i have more than one notebook. You will love that RGBLED screen, my precision m6400 has it and it is amazing.

    I have been waiting for some comments on heat this laptop generates before I order since my experience with current E1705 + 7900GS is not great. But it seems so far no one has had their hands on this beaut ... come on Dell.

    BTW, Is $1444 before taxes for the configuration below a good deal?

    Another question, is it possible to cancel the order without any penalty before they ship?

    Is everyone totally convinced this is correct. Every 4670 review I've read says the 512MB 4670 uses GDDR while the 1024MB 4670 uses DDR..
