The original delayed orders will always be delayed. If Dell pushes them to the front and bumps the next set of orders then you'll have twice the number of delays posted to the books, twice the people that are upset at you, and twice the potential comps you'll have to dish out.
If you continue that process, you'll have every order delayed until after the new year and a lot of angry customers instead of just the early orders. It sucks but it's business.
-
I hope Dell rushes with these order and get them out of the door. At the same time im really concerned that midst of rush of things the systems built will have no QA/QC whatsoever and all sort of manufacturing defects. Hopefully no one finds a screw driver inside his laptop
-
Well, mine is already in the boxing stage and it's in Tennessee and I'm in KY. No tracking #, tho. It's been in TN since yesterday.
~Ibrahim~ -
Drive over and pick it up then! Just head north.
-
mmm... How can you tell where it is? mine doesnt say anything about the location.
-
That appears to be the case. Most people who ordered in late September appear to be in the boxing stage.
There are several who ordered later who has not had their orders cancelled, but their order is projected to ship within a few days and they're still in the build stage. It takes at least 1-2 days in the boxing stage prior to shipping, and several have reported at least 4. -
Those of you who placed an order with the 430-2955 wireless card and haven't had their order canceled and reissued, may want to be proactive and call Dell. My EDD of 11/2 was pushed to 11/9. I gave them a call today to check on the status and after being bumped around was told that there is a problem with my order. The wireless card 430-2955 is the bandit. At first she said the order needed to be reissued, but a I pushed back. She is looking at some alternatives and is going to get back to me. I was clear that if this is going to mean a several week delay, I will need to look elsewhere.
-
The card 430-2955 is a part of the delay problem... That's for sure. My new order is with the 430-0737 wifi part. My three previous cancelled orders before that are with the 430-2955 Wifi card.
-
I called twice in the past week and both times I was told there was no issue with my order and it would ship on-time (ESD 11/06 & EDD 11/10). I specifically asked about the wireless card and both reps had no knowledge of the problem. I asked why so many other orders are being reissued with the new part number and they said that the cancellation could be the result of multiple issues but had no specific information. This leads me to believe that 1: They really didn't know 2: The whole wireless card issue is a smoke screen to justify the cancellation 3: They can only comment on a specific order and if the system says no delay, they stick with it.
I also e-mailed 2 days ago but have not received a response. -
I just called to get a confirmation of the actual status of my machine since there are 3 different statuses on the website. The woman I spoke with had very good english and told me from what she could see it was in the final stages of production and the next step is getting carrier/tracking info for me.
Regarding the statuses on the website she said to allow 24-48 hours for those to be updated.
My EDD as of the revised/cancelled order is 11/30. She quoted this but said "Since your order is in the final stages expect that to be MUCH sooner than anticipated by the EDD." But she did not provide me a hard date. This is very good as my "original EDD" was 11/12. I'm hoping this wont be too far off from that. Now i'm all giddy again. -
Yep for some reason my order was never canceled, just sitting there getting delayed. I am curious to see how this is handled. -
The first person I talked to said everything looked fine at first but then went to double check to see what the delay was. I lost him and got bumped to someone else who sent me to a "special" department for help. She seemed to know what the issue was right away and appears to be on top of things. I got a service number and a promise to get a call back tomorrow after she has a chance to talk to someone else to try to get my order corrected and expedited. We will see....
-
I just called Team Hollywood. Wasn't too helpful. Lady said that all she can see is it is still showing on track to ship tomorrow. I asked about the bad wifi part number, and she said she did hear of that, but everyone who had it should have been notified by now. I don't feel too confident I'll be seeing a shipped notice tomorrow.
-
Best of luck then!
-
What phone number are you calling?
My order hasn't changed at all, just there with the "old/bad" wifi card. -
Argh! My order just got cancelled... the strange thing is I don't see a new order replacing it. Time to call Dell.
-
I still have the problematic part (430-2955) on my order that's scheduled to ship tomorrow. I've never been notified.
-
Me thinks you need a geography lesson.
-
So I just got off the phone with another rep. What he told me was the original part (430-2955) was defective and they were receiving complaints from the consumers. Dell canceled future orders to replace the defective parts with new hardware. During this whole process, the manufacturer was notified of the defective units and has corrected the problem so some orders will continue with the original part number.
I also asked him why my system was still in the "build" stage but scheduled to ship tomorrow. He said they can go from that staged to shipped very quickly and again, said the unit is still on track to ship tomorrow.
Whether it does or not is another question. Just passing along what Dell said.
*edit* this is the first of three reps that admitted to a problem with the part -
I just got off the phone with Dell after being transferred about 12 times... finally reached the original sales rep who placed my order, and he mentioned that there were "another round of cancelations today". He could not tell me why my order was not replaced, but should be fixing this now.
Kind of strange that they cancelled it without automatically replacing it. My EDD was 11/13, and he assured me that I should have it still by then... we will see, hopefully it will come up online in the next 30 min or so.
I had a feeling something like this might happen, given the problems everyone else has had. I also had the "defective" 430-2955 WiFi Card.
-
Just today on the order status page where my edd used to show n/a it now shows 11/16 to match my order details page.
-
I've been calling 1-800-283-2210 3-2-1-1 to check my status. After I checked my status I just used the automated menu to get through to a rep.
Mike -
My original order date was 09-28. My second-time rescheduled EDD is 11-10 and my order still shows the 'defective' 430-2955 part. My order has been 'in-production' for many weeks. Whenever I call Dell order support, they tell me that the i7 processor is back-ordered and they expect to have it by tomorrow (Friday). I am still uncertain that I will get it by the current EDD. Is there anyone else also experiencing the same thing.
-
I hate to break it to you guys, according to Dell, nobody's 1645's are being built at the moment. They are waiting on parts. The good news is that they upped my EDD from 11/30 to 11/19, go figure.
I ordered 36 days ago, and still waiting. -
I just realized that they just took today and added 2 weeks to it, for my EDD.
-
I would call them everyday and keep trying to get the manager of the person you're speaking to. Keep moving up the chain until you find someone that can resolve things or tell you more details. They can't have a shortage of i7 parts if other notebooks in Dell using i7 parts are being sold and shipped...
-
We'll find out tomorrow because there are a lot of ESD's for the 6th.
-
So i just made the pre-emptive call to see if my order was going to be cancelled and sure enough it was marked cancelled in his system but was not reflected on dell.ca . My first order was placed on 3/10/09 my new EDD is 7/12/09 however im bieng "assured" it wont take that long.
I hummed a bit politely and noted americans with re-orders are recieving 6GB of ram as 6gb is the standard in the new US build, he offered to match it once i mentioned having an HP dv7 deliverable in 2 weeks.
I just thaught Id let you know that if you have the 430-2955 wifi it is only a matter of time until your order is cancelled. Call now re-order get some free stuff. the longer you wait the later your new EDD wil be!

This is correct. Dell shipped my i7 Studio 15 on Nov 3. Fedex confirmed by phone that they have the box. It would have arrived tomorrow, but I called Dell today to have them direct the package to my workplace, since I'll never be home to pick it up. So any delays must be from other Studio XPS-specific parts.
-
Right, technically I would head south to get to Tennessee. But, whatever.
I found out the location by calling Dell, ext. 2169174. I don't know who they are now, so many names, but it's the old Jaguar team. They are based in TN and they said it was at their plant there.
~Ibrahim~ -
Kudos on the RAM upgrade. Ouch on the price (unless that is CAN dollars).
-
Grr... I just tried calling Dell to ask them about my order (still with the old Wifi SKU number), but got a message saying they are closed. Supposedly my system is 'on track' to ship tomorrow, but I think my chances of winning the lottery are better.
-
Read that wrong. Was thinking you were in TN and had to go to KY.
And after the 10th time calling the 800 number, it still says it is in production but will ship tomorrow. I feel like im in for a disappointment. -
I'm with you on that. Tomorrow will tell if there are another round of cancellations planned from Dell. I'm remaining pessimistic to lessen the blow if I received the cancellation order.
-
Well that's funny, I now have 2 XPS 1645 (RGBLED, 256Go SSD,4Go RAM, Core i7 720) with the good wifi card that are In Production...
-
Awesome, good to know, thanks! They're closed now... but I'll call tomorrow morning and get my free RAM upgrade. I gotta say that waiting until 7/12 at this point would suck, but adding some RAM will help.
As of right now, I still do not see my re-made order online... which is still concerning.
-
Don't mention this to Dell and I'll buy the second system from you
(special discount???)
-
My sxps 16 is in final stage, not cancelable : (
Ordered it on 10. 13
"
As per the update from the factory, the RAM (memory) is on backorder and the supply is expected by 11.05.2009, which is today. I will contact you with more information on the status of the order.
"
I guess lots of people will get their sxps 1645 very soon -
and they told me that the i7 processor is backorderes, before that they used to say that the base of the notebook is backordered. My order date is 9-28 with EDD of 11-10
-
That's not really nice, the rep told me my computer should ship within 2 days.
Did you creat a case about your concern?
I just took a look at dell.com, the exact same config cost $600 more
I'm lucky
-
yes, the RAM or whatever it is that's backordered is 'expected' to be supplied today, and the dell reps on the phone can only confirm it tomorrow (Friday) whether the shipment actually happened. That's what I was told by my rep today and he'll call me tomorrow.
I agree that it's nice price and everything, but I want to see some sort of progress on my order....if nothing else, some honest answers and some sort of concrete EDD. They have been pushing back my EDD again and again.... -
So has anyone been canceled with the new wifi card (430-0737) on their order?
Ordered 10/28
EDD 11/19
Website: In Production
Tele: Build Stage -
My order is still in-production and no-cancellation so far. Still showing that 430-2955 part.
Ordered 10/28
EDD 11/10
Website: In Production
Tele: Build Stage -
lol thanks it is in canadian dollars but doesnt make up for the exchange which is at .93 right now. its ok though were used to getting pooched on the prices up here.
-
I also was upset about the extra wait but it looks like id be waiting anyways and for a 550$ upgrade for free ill give em a few weeks. if you have any problem getting it just pm me and ill give you my reps number.
-
I tried the same config as I have, and it is 366 more with a 4gb to 6gb ram upgrade (4's not listed anymore the way I went). I went a different way and it was exactly the same config that I ordered and is 34 cheaper than when I ordered. I'm not sure how you come out to a 600 difference.
-
I am calling BS on the different parts on "back order", what it is now, the memory module? Dell's telling me they do not have 2GB memory in stock? what about the alienware and other laptops that already shipped that use the same part? They need to be honest and say, we never had an i7 processor in a sxpx 16 frame. We are still trying to fit everything in. thought we can do it in 2 weeks.
-
I totally agree. I was told that they aren't building them yet. But everybody thinks that they are being boxed up, yet no shipping numbers. hmmmm
We already know that they have memory, processors, hard drives, and network cards. So it is something else besides the mentioned parts.
I hate being lied to. Give me an honest answer, and I can respect that. And it helps being patient. -
I think the recession has caused a shortage of straight answers. As soon as we can get those shipped over to Dell, we'll have our orders in no time.
~Ibrahim~ -
There are a lot of complainers on this thread. I ordered on like september 27 or around there and edd was like oct 20th or something. Then they told me that the order would be delayed 1 week. ok so like oct 27 or around there. then i checked and the pulled the old wireless card trick on me and now my edd is nov 25. I have been waiting patiently, ive called and put up with their bs. And i will be really pissed if people who ordered a couple of weeks later get their laptops before me which seems like a possibility. i did in fact order the i7 model the day it came out on accident and i thought i was getting a core duo. I got the i7 xps 16 with bluray, 4g ram, 500g HD and WLED and some other stuff for 1300 which is a lot less than some of you are saying.
