As for Ibrahim, my order is in the boxing stage with estimated shipping date of 11/20. Original EDD 11/9, re-processed 10/31 with EDD 11/23 with Next Business Day shipping.
In 2007, i ordered a vostro that was delayed with an EDD 3 weeks apart, then it was shipped a couple of days later.

Maybe Dell's whole cancellation and re-order thing is some scheme to make it difficult to cancel and before you can get through trying to cancel they ship the order so they still get it to you, it looks like it still shipped early (per the new order's EDD) and everyone is happy, right?
Well, besides us who had to wait almost 2 months for a laptop we're paying a good chuck of money for... When we would have had the early new technology we're now kinda late to the game. -
Well I'm at day 35, 5 weeks out from the time I ordered until now, and still have 3 weeks to go.
They won't even call me back, which just pisses me off to no end. Oh and I have the old card, and haven't been canceled/reordered yet. If that happens I'll be to PO'd to even except a Dell, as I attempted to ask them several times about the "old network card". -
Why are you even putting up with this, you are a better person than I am as I would have told them to stick their poor customer service and laptop up their Micheal. I know I speak for myself but if I do get the laptop, and I mean IF, I wont be ordering anything from dell for a long long time if ever. I cant believe that you are waiting 5 weeks for a laptop...just so nuts...I hope this is all worth waiting for.
-
-
5 weeks definitely sucks when you have your hopes up. But after Dell canceled the first order (and everyone else's), it wasn't so bad since the anticipation isn't keeping this laptop in the front of my mind. Of course it helps that my current laptop hasn't crap out on me again...(yet). But come next week, I plan on canceling and get something else since I need a reliable laptop for my trip...I don't expect Dell to come through in time.
-
I got a call around 530 tonight and they told me that my order is completed and should be shipped with in the new 48 hours. I just called the order status hotline and it says my order is in the boxing stage. I hope all this info is true as now I am getting really excited. It has been a month and two weeks since I placed this order. I hope all of you get your orders soon!

The worst part is that I can cancel, drive to Best Buy and pick up the Envy 15, today. I can tell you I'm really on the fence with this whole fiasco.

Is HP offering any kind of promotions at the moment? The only thing that keeps me hanging with Dell is the 12 month promotion..
-
or maybe not... time will tell.
-
He offered 3 Year warranty for the same price.
My EDD was 10/26 at the beginning then 11/9 and now it's 12/2. -
I am gonna need more than that...give me something tangible that I can use, 6 gb ram, Blueray, another 500gb harddrive....something....
-
better specs and cheaper.
-
Does HP have a finance plan of any type
-
OMG the website is telling me its shipped and the phone # says preparing to ship... what does that mean?? my EDD is 11/30 after my cancel/reorder with original EDD being 11/12.
Sadly no tracking number yet -
-
In transit...you will get the tracking number when the carriers get it
-
-
If and when you all get your 1645, I look forward to hearing if the i7 runs cooler than the 1640. I am sure it will, but I have been reading the 1640 forum and there is a lot of talk about the heat on the touch pad, screen, and everywhere else.

I dont want to get too excited yet. I still have 3 different statuses according to the website.
On the "My Orders" page i have the new one they did for me and my cancelled shipment. For the most recent order it says "Delivery Preparation"
If i click the purchase ID it lists it as "Shipped"
If I click the order number it still says "In Production"
Automated phone # says "We are currently preparing your order to be shipped" -
Someone PLEASE make up thier minds....I am still amused about the person who had a shipping date of 1999
-
lol!
On my purchase ID page it says:
Order Description Order Date Order Status Estimated Ship Date
Studio XPS 16 Notebook 11/2/2009 In Production 1/1/0001
I'm warming up my time machine now.
However when click on the actual order number it says 11/24 as the EDD. The automated phone says 11/23..
Tomorrow is anotherday -
I have next day shipping which was included in my EPP purchase. So lets hope that I get it either by the end of this week or early next week.
- Garrett -
I am not sure what it means when you are in the "boxing" stage but that is where I am at...online says order is processing no est Del. yet and my cancelled order still has an active status
I called Friday 10/30 after freaking out after a delay and seeing the cancelled status...it took 11 calls to get to an answer I would accept. Same wifi card was the hold up and they offered my next day shipping upgrade...woo hoo, that is how I ordered it and it was already comp'd...so who knows. I need to locate a number of someone I can actually have an intell conversation with at Dell - I had a choice and chose Dell...ooops! -

SXPS 1645
Ordered: 09/28/2009 w/Vista
Orig. EDD: 10/27/2009
New EDD: 11/23/2009
In boxing stage!!! -
Well I placed an order for one of these this morning and then realised after a bit of reading here that no one has actually received one yet and delivery may be a while.
If it's of any interest to people the EDD I've been given is the 12th Dec however from what everyone is saying on here it doesn't mean a lot.
To the people who've bought one of these and paid by credit card, have you been charged yet?
Also how much have people in the UK paid for these, have the laptops gone up or down in cost since you placed your orders?
One final thing after I placed my order I was sent an order acknowledgement email. At what point do you get a confirmation email to say the order has been accepted? -
Well, my purchase id page now has "work in progress" and I see on my online account for my checking that they have already sent the charge but it hasn't gone through. (Funds are still in my account, but available balance is reduced)
I still don't have anything on My Orders page, and still no shipping or billing address. But since they emailed me on the order and included everything I don't think it even matters, I just don't want to waste a ton of time blowing my minutes for my cell phone to call in and try get ask and get something done. -
Anyone know at what stage you get a PO Number assigned to your order? I've had an order "In Production" for 3 weeks now, and the PO Number field is still blank. The EDD is 11/13...
-
I have been looking at the prices of the Studio Xps 1645 Intel Core i7 laptops at the Dell uk website for sometime now and i have noticed that they are significantly higher than what they used to be. I think there is a 200 pound difference compared to a few weeks ago. I think they offer a 265 pound discount which is more than what they used to offer but the RGBLED screen is not included in the price (which is 190 pounds i think). I wouldn't be crazy enough to order one now when everybody else is having issues with their orders but i would also wait for demand to relax a bit so that perhaps their prices can drop.
-
in my humble opinion, it's always like this with dell's new products. When I first got my 1640 (yes, the first version of studio xps 16), there were lots and lots of people having problem with their orders. Dell seems to want to increase the shipping time on purpose....to make the customers wait and that means when he receives it, he will be much happier. In the old days with the 1640, some people had to wait 2 or even 3 months to get their laptops and when they received it, they commented "it worth the wait." Also, I highly recommend the people who wants to place i7 order, to do it now. Back then, the people who placed order AFTER actually got it before the people who ordered it first. Good luck guys.
-
Thanks, guys.
I'm hoping, too! I never planned on cancelling and I don't think this would be the right time.
I'm still in boxing, no tracking, site still says "In Production". EDD is still 12-2-09 and lady robot (like it!) still says 11-24-09 as the ship date. But, right, it must be a massive box if they are taking twenty days.
For some reason, though, my Dell-sense tells me not to expect a tracking number today. Tomorrow, maybe. But this is not based on any information I have, just my body letting my mind know that I might be let down, LOL.
~Ibrahim~ -
the thing is. Even if I would cancel my SXPS where is no any competitors for this features/price / 4670 / sRGB / backlight / build.
Unless someone can point it to me -
I would have gone for more RAM, or SSD.... something that would make the laptop faster. -

I just called the automated line 1-800-283-2210 opt. 3-2-1-1 and that number says my order is in the build stage. estimated shipping date of 11-6. Then i have to count in my 3-5 day shipping. when i call 1-800-433-9014 (another order status line) it says what it always has, order is being processed, EDD of 11-12 or before. online my account page says N/A like always and my order status page says in production EDD of 11-12. I ordered 10-16 and my order has never been changed or canceled. so I'm hoping the first number is right because likely shipping to me will be more than 5 days. Fedex is VERY slow to my part of MT.
-
-
If your estimated ship date is tomorrow, but it hasn't gone through the boxing stage, it's unlikely that it will ship.
Unrelated: my order which was replaced on 11/3 is in preproduction now with an ESD of 11/24 and EDD of 11/30. I have next business day shipping so it probably won't take that long to get to me. -
-
Mine didn't get cancelled until the day after it was supposed to ship.
-
-
Hell yeah (pun intended)
Are there operators 24/7 or will you have to call the next day?
-
To the guys in the boxing stage: Expect a few days until it moves to shipping.
After lurking in the other section of the site/other forums -- turns out boxing stage also includes mailing the product to America, and then transferring to a carrier (Fedex/UPS) before giving out a tracking number and such. -
I guess I'll find out tomorrow. -
Wonder what happened to people who ordered in September? Shouldn't Dell be shipping those first... what the f.

Hi, I'm really tempted to buy this one for xmas in this config:
SYSTEM COLOR Obsidian Black High Gloss Finish with Leather
PROCESSOR Intel ® Core ™ i7 720QM 1.6GHz (2.8 GHz Turbo Mode, 6MB Cache)
WARRANTY AND SERVICE 1 Yr Ltd Hardware Warranty, InHome Service after Remote Diagnosis

VIDEO CARD ATI Mobility RADEON® HD 4670 – 1GB
WIRELESS CARDS Intel® 5300 WLAN Wireless-N (3x3) Mini Card
BATTERY OPTIONS 85 WHr 9-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery
I'm university student and ntb is meant to be carried almost daily (16" is ok for me), it's mainly for multimedia oriented jobs, some programming in C and Mathematica, some photoshop or even premiere (occasionaly), A LOT of movie watching. I also want it to be futureproof and well-built.
Dell XPS 1645 meets most of my criteria, but there are few things I'm unsure about...
1) after reading a couple of reviews and many posts on this forum I'm really doubtful if RGB-LED is worth the extra money. I'm not doing colour sensitive job (however I do sometimes edit RAW images in PS), but i want things on the display to look natural, especially in FullHD movies... (and I'm occasional gamer too)
Those who had honor to work with RGB-LED: would you pay for it in my position???
And just to make sure I haven't overlooked something: biggest DISadvantages of RGB-LED are supposed to be: inaccurate colors, bigger power consumption and some heat produced;
while advantages should be: 0,4" gain in size, wider gamut and (maybe) better brightness...
Do you know any more to be added?
2) I'm also considering usual Studio 17 with Core i7 720QM (almost the same config), because it should be cooler, it has numpad and place for additional hdd (I'd buy 80GB intel ssd 34nm for system while keeping stock 500GB for data, I think it's beatiful idea), but what I DISlike about studio 17 is: dimensions, weight, speakers and design (and maybe a bit worse overal built quality).
So which one do you think is better for me?
Thx a lot for replies and excuse my english...
EDIT: One more question: how does combined e-sata/usb work? If I have a e-sata external hdd do I need only 1 special cable? Or is it meant to be either/or thing???
