Yes, that was my concern and question back on page 101 of this forum! After a few ruffled feathers of some users, the moderator posted that, indeed, as soon as the 1645's start shipping, a new thread would be started for those that actually own them, and this one would be closed. At that time, they also renamed this thread from Owners Lounge to Discussion Thread. Presumably, the new thread will be a real Owners Lounge! :D

So, there should be actual OWNERS today...who's going to start the Offical 1645 Owners Lounge thread??? (since I'm not an owner, yet, I'm not qualified!) :)

    New update from the front...

I just spoke with a rep with the manufacturing team (she says). I was told that there has also been a shortage of the base assembly for the laptop, as well as the screw-up with the wireless card SKU. Next expected shipment of the bases is supposed to come in tomorrow (11/10/09), and the parts will be distributed in a first-in first-out method.

Not that this info makes a difference to anyone... I just know sometimes for me it's easier to wait if you know what's going on.

Well my order placed 10-16 with original EDD of 11-12 got an updated EDD yesterday of 11-19. today i got an email telling me my order was delayed, saying they were confident it would ship on or before the new EDD, and giving me the option to cancel.

Yeah...Whoever is the first to report theirs in their hands will be under a TON of pressure to do a review, take and post pics, etc. If it were me getting it today, I wouldn't tell anyone! :)

If your order still has the old item number for the Intel 5300 card, then I'd suggest calling Dell. If you don't, it's almost guaranteed that your order will get cancelled at some point between now and the 11/19 EDD and then recreated.. in other words, I believe any time between now and the cancellation will have been for nothing.

Mine just got delivered and it is beautiful! I will post pictures soon. Dell sure makes the packaging very simple. It is also thiner and lighter then I had expected. I am very pleased.

I don't absolutely have to have it right now so I'm thinking that I may just wait till they cancel and see if I can get some free stuff then. I sure wouldn't mind more ram or more warranty.

I've ordered one of these in the UK last Thursday and I had an order acknowledgement straightaway but no other correspondence.

If I look at my order status it gives an edd of 10/12 and it says it's in 'phase 2 preproduction'. Did you guys get any other confirmation emails from Dell as I've had nothing else?

Where are people looking up the spec of their order as I can't see nything that shows the part numbers in the build or does this only appear once it's in production?

I promise I will try and answer what I can. Right now I am doing a clean install of Windows 7 RC until I get my windows 7 upgrade. Sadly my laptop did ship with Vista as that is what I ordered with. I was hoping it would ship with Windows 7. I guess I was pushing my luck a little. I have some other things that I need to take care of, but I will get pictures soon. I bet others who get theirs today will post their pictures as well.

I just want to see a prime95 torture test to see how well they did the cooling for the I7.

I had an Envy 15 for a few days and it got near 100C within a few minutes. I think the sagers keep it in the 80's under full load, so hoping for something near there.

The issue with the Envy 15 is its like a single cooling system (heatpipe/fins/etc) that try and cool both the GPU and CPU, or at least thats what it looked like from the pics i saw.

lol i never understood why so many ppl want the pics its the same as any other SXPS 16 just with i7 unless you wanted proof that it was indeed i7 and im willing to bet the cooling system hasnt changed too drastically

Envy 15 cooling is dual heatpipe on the CPU going into dual fans on the left side. One of those two fan has no vent on the bottom and as a result never felt like it pushed much air. Probably a design flaw is to have the heatpipes on the outer edge of the CPU heatsink (normally they are centered over the core).

The GPU had its own heatpipe and fan on the right side and had its own intake vent on the bottom so could move air well.

Also not concerned with pics of the outside, as we know it hasn't changed much if at all.

The inside may have changed a little or a lot. So far every mobile i7 heatsink I have seen has had two good sized heatpipes on the core. As others have mentioned the northbridge is gone, so the motherboard layout may have shuffled around a little (maybe move the southbridge to an area that can have a small heatsink on it).

I will try and get pictures of the inside when I have time. If someone else posts pictures of their inside thanks in advanced. To the poster who asked about if my XPS has the RBG Screen, the anser is yes! And boy is it beautiful!!!

Screw the photos, review it and tell us about heat, battery life, and weight. I know it's fast, I don't care about benchmarks and the rest of the components are the same. I know cosmetically it hasn't changed much, even if they revamped the cooling - but is it good enough to cool it and has it added any extra weight (hope you have an accurate scale)? And if possible, try any undervolting software to see if it works!

Oh man I had to call directly to the order modification department and get my order remade, for those who still have the old wifi card, call the order modification department and change the order with the new wifi card.

Anyways they changed my order so that I have the new wifi card and Windows 7. The screen model number is a bit different tho
I used to have 320-8332 Full HD Widescreen 16.0 inch RGBLED LCD (1920x1080) W/2.0 MP
Now i have 320-8335 Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam
Can anyone confirm this is the same screen?

Hope they dropped your price. WLED = White LED backlight and is a $75 upgrade.

RGBLED is Red/Green/Blue backlight and is $250? upgrade.

What number/options do you have to call to get them and what did you tell them? Did they acknowledge the wifi problem? I would like to call ASAP.

This is a bit complicating/confusing. What's the real diff? If anything this thread should be renamed to "Owners Lounge" instead of making another thread that will be having the same discussion as this one.
