You're lucky because EDD are actually dates inwhich they decide to crush my hopes for another week/month/whatever.
-
Please do riot. My order was on 9/25, and in response to that person who said above that all the september orders have been shipped, definitely not true. I'm quite ticked off that someone who ordered 5 days ago is ahead of me in the process.
-
Yeah, how's that even possible? 6-5 weeks vs 1 week. If I were to sue them by the amount of time lost, I could get zillions!
-
Ordered on 10/09 with an EDD of 11/09... Well, on 10/29 it got cancelled (Wi-Fi card). After that they re-ordered it with a new EDD of 11/25. When I placed the first order, Dell had some deal about putting Windows 7 on the laptop if it ships after 10/22. My detail order page says Vista and it’s in the boxing stage as of this morning. Should I call or wait till I receive it? It looks like Dell will most likely make their first EDD on my first order… I hope.
-
Hmm, you ordered on 10/09? I thought the windows 7 started after 16 or 15. You can still get the Win 7 free upgrade anyway.
-
I read a similar thing but the website said it would ship with the windows 7 upgrade in the same box I think. I called to ask about it and the Dell reps knew nothing about it. I ordered on 10/16 but since canceled my order.
-
I think there were 2 guys who said it shipped on friday and it was getting on saturday. One said he couldn't because he's currently not there. What about the other guy?
I know I'm hasty, I just want to get some info. Will all these delays, my "don't do it" sensor is ticking me and it's pulling numbers out of the chart. -
i am set to receive mine on monday.....saturday didnt work out :-( fedex overnight i guess doesnt deliver on saturday....
-
Now, I seem to recall someone saying that earlier! If only I could remember...
I hate waiting for stuff, too, and feel your agony! But, at least it gives you something to look forward to on an otherwise lousy day of the week!
-
All right, get this....
So the package is about 30 miles away from me right now, "in transit for delivery", and about 45 miles away from my college where it is being delivered. Somehow it didn't make it, even though it's been 45 miles away for over 12 hours. Must be trying to save gas, lol.
Anyways, my estimated delivery date is now the 10th.
Dell still thinks it's the 7th (today), though.
~Ibrahim~ -
Have you tracked your package through the FedEx webpage? They usually have accurate delivery dates.
-
Yeah, sorry, should've restated that. Fedex says the 10th, Dell says the 7th.
~Ibrahim~ -
thats because you have 3-5 day shipping. You didn't PAY for the next-day shipping, so fedex will just keep it under a desk (so to speak) until 3-5 days.
-
I ordered next-day shipping...
But here's the catch, they only have ... *drum roll* Next-BUSINESS-Day shipping.
So that means, even though it arrived in my city today...it won't be delivered until Monday morning. That's fine and all, since I have much to do this weekend.
Anyway, I'll try to get a review up and running this week (assuming there's no 'oops' factor involved -- shipping gets lost, laptop defective, etc.) -- it's project week here so I probably won't have a lot of time.
Good luck to everyone receiving their orders and/or getting it shipped out. It's been a good 2+ months for me here as well. -
You wouldn't have gotten it today anyhow, because they don't deliver on a Sunday.
-
Yeaaah!!
But, legit, it is impossible for it to have been two months. I'll go out on a limb and say I have the earliest order, 9/25. Counting the days, it'll have been 49 days for it to be delivered to me. 2 months ~ 60 days. Wait time ~ 50 days. It's not yet 2 months, so it definitely can't be 2+ months.
Unless this is a replacement for an old laptop and your order went in really early?
~Ibrahim~ -
I've been lurkin around this thread for the last couple weeks and I ordered mine 10/21 with an EDD of 11/13 and I have the old wifi so I'm hoping and praying mine wont get canceled!
-
I think that they are cancelling the old wi-fi around a day or 3 before the EDD, so won't see anything changing till you get real close to your EDD. Even if you try to call and get it changed, they won't do it unless you request an entirely new order. My EDD was 11-10 and they cancelled my order on the 6th. I haven't gotten a new order #, hopefully they would give me one on Monday.
Order date: 09-28
last EDD: 11-10 (CANCELLED due to 'bad' wi-fi)
New order #: to be told -
To me, they haven't canceled yet. First Time I ordered had an EDD of 11/2, then it went to 11/9 and now they decided to go to 11/16 and still... no re-order to correct the "bad" wifi part.
-
Here's what is going on with my order:
DELL USA
Order date: 09-28
EDD 1: 10-27
EDD 2: 11-04
EDD 3: 11-10
They cancelled my order before EDD 3, on 11-06 (got a call from a dell rep citing the 'bad' wi-fi part).
New order # and EDD unknown. -
Ok, then I should be getting a note on wednesday or tuesday.
-
This is not always true. I always get the 3-5 day shipping because most of the stuff I order is shipped out of Nashville, TN (I live about 5 hours south) and gets here next day even with the 3-5 day shipping. So it's just according to where your located. Fed-Ex does NOT hold your package just so it takes 3-5 days.
-
Hello fellow Studio XPS laptop buyer's,
I am glad to see that some of you are about to receive your SXPS Laptops.
FYI, I just called the Order Status # and my SXPS Laptop has now moved from the Build Stage to the Box Stage, I guess that I should receive it this week.
Here is how it went for me:
1. Ordered on 10/25/09
2. Estimated Delivery Date: 11/16/09
3. Estimated Ship Date: 11/13/09
Even though the ESD is still 11/13/09, it looks like that it will ship sooner than 11/13/09. I do not think that it will take like a week to box this laptop.
Other than the wait time I had no issues with this order (no cancelations or product issues with any parts)
I hope that it goes well and gets better for the rest of you. I will keep you posted as to any date changes or when I receive it.
Hope that the information can be of help to sombody else with similar dates.

Maybe you should post that a 3rd time.

Well, I have been reading all these posts about this so called "bad" card. But this is not the case. I have been talking to this lady at the corporate headquarters in Round Rock and she told me that the card is just extremly backordered through Intel. They said that they were holding the orders because of the particular card that was selected during the ordering process. If you change the card, your order would move along quicker than waiting for the part to come in. Any they can "change" orders. My is listed as "changed" and has a upgraded wi-fi card.
-
So anyone receive there's yet? I'd be curious to hear about the palm rest heat (or lack of) now that the northbridge is on the CPU.
-
So I ordered the RGBLED and the item number is now: "" 320-8335 - Premium FHD WLED Display, Obsidian Black, 2.0 MP Webcam"" IS that The RGBLED or the WLED screen? Im confused

The northbridge is inside the CPU?! Hmm, I don't know much about motherboard components but sure you don't mean otherwise? Where was the CPU | Northbridge located last time? on the palm rest?
-
My mistake, it was the SOUTHbridge that was causing the palm rest heat in the 1640s. Yes the i7 did away with the northbridge by integrating the memory controller. -
Oh sweet! Anyone knows if it's going to be a different branch of the BIOS for the 1645? Are they going to ship with latest? Because I'm afraid I might crap it out right out of the box :S
Edit: Woops! Looks like dell site only lists A01 for the SXPS 1645. Which is GREAT! -
Southbridge was under the trackpad.
Northbridge normally has integrated graphics, memory controller, and PCIe ports. Recent Intel north bridges range from 3-7w depending on if they have integrated graphics or not.
Southbrige handles most of the ports, disk controller, wired networking, and audio. Heat generally does not affect the components in the southbridge, so they are allowed to run without a heatsink or with a very small aluminum heat sink.
Here is a SXPX 16 Core 2 Duo layout:
I haven't been able to pick out the southbridge in the Asus G51J-a2, or the two i7 sagers.
On the Envy 15 it is probably the little dimpled aluminum heatsink along the bottom of this image:
-
Is the Wi-Fi card that they are using as a replacement a A,G,N?
-
I don't think so. Go back a page and you'll notice someone has the new Wifi Card and it says the same as mine (old wifi card).
Thanks for the pics by the way! -

PM45 Northbridge = 7W
GM45 Northbridge = 12W
*M45 Southbridge = 2.5W
PM55 Southbridge = 3.5W -
Eh? The Intel 5000 WLAN series all have A/B/G/N bands. That includes the 5300.
~Ibrahim~ -
You and I are peas in a pod my friend. Exact same order date. And I just moved from "In Production" to SHIPPED within the last 12 hours! This is after a Dell mandated cancellation due to the Wifi card change. EDD 11/10.
I'm beginning to wonder if there should be a new thread with PC and pics arrive....... -
I'll take pics when mine arrives if there's a want for it -- but is there anything different externally from the 1640? I personally didn't order the leather accent, I saw youtube reviews/unboxing when the 1640 first released and thought it was pretty cheesy -- plus I wanted to throw the extra money on other components
Review will def. be up by the middle of the week. I'm currently running a Toshiba Satellite X205 though; I'd imagine the performance will be quite a jump...1.8ghz dual core and a geforce 8700GT which are pretty outdated these days. My old Dell Inspiron died a few years back. -
Why are so many delays from dell? Is somethink wrong with the notebook?
-
Look, this is what the guy a page behind has:
Which is different to what I have:Code:1 430-0737 Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
Notice I have the 2955 (old wifi) and he has the other one.Code:1 430-2955 Intel WiFi Link 5300 802.11AGN Half Mini Card
Are you saying even though they both have the same description they are different? -
I think your thought process got confused or you misunderstood the question from poster MIKE S. He asked if the replacement wifi card also has AGN and you replied back that it DID NOT. In fact, as you are now stating, the descriptions are the same, because the card is the same, and in fact DOES have AGN as do all Intel 5000 series cards.
-
Ah yes, I misread the question. I thought he asked if they were replacing the card with a different AGN card.
-
Sweet!!!!!!!! My status has changed to "shipped" when I call the robot lady. But she told me it shipped on Jan 1st, 2004??? I think Dell has been messing with timetravel technology, but isn't very good at it.
When I check the website, the status still says "in production" with the EDD still set at the 23rd. Maybe they are in the process of updating it since it just changed. I guess I will see when I get home tonight.
-
Has anyone shipped with the old wifi part number? Or should I start yelling and screaming at my sales guy today?
-
AFAIK no one with the "old" wifi part has their order shipped.
It's weird because the "old" card is still being used on XPS 1640. And since the description did not change I guess that the old card and the new card are exactly the same... -
I sure hope a new thread is created STRICTLY for people that have received their machines to discuss the issues so this thread can be basically discarded.
-
fwiw the "new" wifi card may be a new revision of the hardware or something that improves "something"
-
I'm actually feeling conflicted at the moment. On the one hand, I spoke to an incredibly helpful Dell sales rep who took care of canceling my original order and setup a new order that wound up costing me around $100 less. I finally have an order with the correct part number and even wound up getting the Bluetooth option (which I removed originally thinking it was USB) and Windows 7. On the other hand, unfortunately my EDD is now December 4th and my shipping method got changed from Next Business Day to 2nd Business Day (although I didn't pay for either, so I can't complain about that too much).
The gentlemen said that he would try to expedite the order but that he couldn't make any promises... and basically said that hopefully my order would arrive earlier.
As an aside, the rep actually sent me two configurations.. the first with 6 GB as available on the site and the second with the original 4 GB. Because they wound up dropping the price of the RGBLED screen when they made 6 GB the standard, that's how I wound up saving money with 4 GB. -
Your CPU and GPU are reversed.
