Yeah, I'd get the RGBLED even if it was smaller (which it is NOT).

I mean, I can't do a direct comparison, but it's the best laptop screen I've ever seen.

OK: you're taking into account that from the above options you listed, only the last one, with the letters RGBLED in it, is an RGBLED screen, right? The first two are WLED, which is better than a regular notebook screen, but I can't imagine it's even marginally close in quality to the RGBLED.

how can you cancel an order from Dell? any penalties?
I got the same deal $1300, but on the phone, not online
I want to cancel it and order it again, to get the 5% cashback from Discover...
Also, my shipping is 3-5 regular shipping, I see online, they're offering free next business day shipping.

One more thing: did anyone manage to get the $100 gift card with this deal?

I have had both the rgbled and the regular wled screens (see sig)
and the RGBLed is WAY better than the wled the colors are much more vibrant and real looking.

1,692.00 before tax. $1,809.75 after. The Dell rep saved me about $100 from what I got on the website while bumping me up to the RGBLED screen.
Estimated shipping Nov 12 :( I went with the 2 year full warranty due to the fact I'll be using it at work as well, so it'll come out in the field from time to time.

I have a friend of a friend who works for MS, so I was able to order a copy of Win7 Prof for $50. First thing I'm doing is formatting and installing. :)

This is my first laptop for personal use so I'm pretty excited. I've been exclusively desktop for home use up until now. Now I gotta find a backpack for it. Any recommendations?

I have checked with a rep, there is only one RGBLed (reg green blue led) screen available and this is the most expensive option obviously when your order your xps. The other screens are all wled (white led) . that would explain the price difference. I hope this clarify the debate.

Nice, thanks! I was also worried about going SATA over SSD. It basically came down to the RGB screen or the SSD. Figured I could always upgrade to an SSD down the line, but I'm locked into the screen once I make a choice.

    Ok sounds good then!

I made the same choice going for the reg led over the ssd and maybe even for the 4gb of ram as well...

I figure both of those are easily upgradeable if I ever decide to.

I don't see anyone mentioning the 16" screen over the 15.4" screen for the RGB model however. I wonder why not?

Does it make any sense for the i7 820QM @ 3.06Ghz turbo to be cheaper than the T9900 @ 3.06Ghz by $60?!? I mean, the T9900 is ancient.

    ..........

All right, let me clear up this RGBLED confusion. Dell only makes ONE RGBLED for the SXPS 16. It is 16". If you can't figure out which one that is, it's the most expensive upgrade.

The first post deals with people WHO HAVE ALREADY ORDERED. If you haven't ordered, then it does not deal with you.

If you have NOT ordered and are customizing one right now: if you want the RGBLED screen, please choose the option that says RGBLED.

The only way to get the RGBLED is if your screen looks like that above.

The first post deals with people's ORDER INVOICES incorrectly displaying WLED as the monitor choice when people evidently bought the RGBLED.

Matter of fact, Cin, I think we should just clear this up now, if you could make this edit to the first post?

"Dell is having some issues with their invoices, particularly with monitor choice. If you ordered the RGBLED and it says WLED, don't worry: you still have the RGBLED, it is just marked incorrectly. Some users who ordered the RGBLED have these part numbers:

    320-8335
    320-8341
    320-8332

If you would like a confirmation (just to make sure they didn't REALLY mess up), please call Dell at 1-800-999-3355. Extension 2169173/2169174 is for the Jaguar Sales Team (great people), but they may not always be available, so if they aren't, just go through the regular phone prompts."

    Thanks,

    ~Ibrahim~

My confusion was due to the fact that I placed the order through a sales agent rather than online. After I received the invoice, I did see some mentions that 320-8335 was the RGB screen, despite the invoice, but wanted to be absolutely sure. After waiting over a month for the laptop, I don't want to have to send it back right away. :)

Exactly the same situation with me. :)

If you want to be 1000% sure, call like I did. But I definitely ordered the RGB (confirmed by Dell) and mine says 320-8335.

The only thing I'm worried about: what if those are ALSO WLED order parts? I don't want someone to think they ordered the WLED and are getting a free "upgrade" to an RGBLED. Hopefully Cin can update the firs post with my edited comments on the post above.

I actually talked to two different reps in post sales support as well as email the guy who sold it to me. All three said it was the RGB, backing up what previous posts in this thread said.

Out of curiosity, is there a way to tell, physically, (or in Windows) if it is RGB over WLED when I get it? Either one would be a major upgrade over the 13 inch Vaio I've been using at work so it may not be apparent at first glance.

Just a heads up, as of today if you order an xps 1645 it will still ship with vista. Only certain desktops at the moment are having win7 installed now, Guess we all have to wait till the 22nd.

unless it is specifically listed, or you order the upgrade on a laptop, nothing will be sold with 7 until after the 22nd. everything else is technically a preorder. after the 22nd the preorders and upgraded laptops will be shipped out.

i understand getting the best deal is important to some people but unless its saving me 200+ i'll just go with what i've ordered.

I might call about getting the 3% off my preferred account purchase though. I bought two laptops total coming to $2400 so unless the offer hadn't started yet I'd like to get that. but cancelling my order isn't worth $70 for the hassle of getting it rebuilt and pushing my deliver date out further

The 3% DPA offer is nothing new, they'd most likely honor it if you call. To get the offer online, one has to select a different card as payment and then choose DPA when they show the "save extra 3%" link.

If you paid with mastercard, there is no way they can refund the money without canceling that order and charging the new order to your DPA.

We ordered the 1645 a couple weeks ago and got in the Mini 10v for $99 deal. Yesterday my wife found another deal using EPP, so we canceled the original deal and ordered another today with RGBLED screen and BDR. Got super lucky and was able to keep the $99 netbook deal though!

Why? So your notebook can fail within a year?

Why would it fail within a year? Do you have a link showing high cpu temps in normal use? My E1705 with Yonah (35W TDP) never had a problem because of the CPU. It's the 7900GS that died twice (2nd time out of warranty and so baking it in the oven every few months until I get this SXPS).

Mobile i7s have a TDP of 45W (a bit more than Yonah) but that'll be reached only in Turbo mode. And I don't see myself using that mode often. I use Lightroom, so having 8 threads is more important to me than 1 thread at 2.8GHz. It's the 4670 I am worried about (from my previous experience with 7900GS).

Search around for the fiasco with the 8600 and 8400. Nvidia is junk.

I canceled my order because I don't think they're gonna put Windows 7 as the pre-installed OS if you order now. I'll wait around the 22nd to actually see Win7 as one of the choices...

I ordered mine on the 27th of September (but it didn't process until the 28th) and it is still In Production (in the build phase).

I think we are all stuck in this purgatory state for a bit longer than we hoped.

i'd place money on the prices of laptops going UP a little bit when win7 systems come out. people have been holding out for it, and i think mfgs are going to cash in on it.

the Dell rep i worked with also mentioned that prices are probably going to jump a bit for a little while.

as another pointed out, its not the CPU that would fail. the nvidia cards have a weak core design on cheap silicon.

You guys talking about Windows 7 should read this thread.

You can get W7 installed before it ships to you (for free).

I'm hoping that i end up with two different keys like when i went from XP to Vista way back in the day. I ended up with a seperate XP key and Vista key that i could run at the same time on different computers.

So thats why I'm gonna do it myself.

I should add that anyone wanting Windows 7 and not wanting to do it themselves should just wait. I wouldn't want my system "upgraded", i would rather it come with Windows 7 already on it so i KNEW that any possible driver issues or otherwise had already been ironed out.

The 'upgrade' is the exact same thing, Zlog. If you are waiting for a machine, you can tell Dell to postpone shipping and install Windows 7 on it when Windows 7 releases, then ship it to you. That means its the exact same thing as you installing Windows 7 yourself, its the exact same thing as everyone will be buying in stores. Also it means you save $$$ because you don't have to pay shipping and handling when Dell mails your 'free' copy out to you.

Its a great deal for people who aren't expecting their notebook in the next week anyways, just tell them to put W7 on it and rejoice.

That's ONLY on select systems that Dell is offering that upon. It's not system wide. If there is NOT an option when purchasing your computer, then you'll have to install Win7 yourself via their free upgrade, OR you will have to wait and purchase a system that already has it on it.

Basically, all the computers on their landing page qualify:

    http://www.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/windows-7-easy-upgrade?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

The upgrade for win-7 should be close to the same as full install, However I think many would rather wait and get the full win-7 install disk, incase you ever reformat, you would have to install vista and then upgrade and would just be a pain in the .
