Typically people compare same sized screen notebooks. How expensive is the dv6t to the XPS 16?

Oh believe me I know, but they're still clearly nailing you with some sort of premium. I would call and complain and try and get them to match the price.

 

I ordered mine (for the fourth time) today.
My first order was a XPS 1640. There were some problem with it (keyboard and speakers). I sent it back.
I ordered a XPS 1645 at the beginning of october (the 1st). Was suppose to ship the 21 october. The order got mysteriouly cancelled 1 week later. I order the same laptop again. And again it got cancelled one week later.
It was because of the bluetooth module...the rep chose the wrong one...
I pissed them off. Talked to two reps and they finally offered me the SSD 256 and i took the RGB LED Screen.
Here is my configuration. The EDD is 11/09/2009 :

Yeah, definitely give the Jaguar guys a call: Dell, extension 2169173 or 2169174. They're primarily a sales team, but they're fully authorized to give deals and the such.

Ikjadoon, I will give them a call if it becomes applicable. Right now I need to figure out WHY my order was canceled and if the current people I'm talking to aren't helpful then I'll give them a shot if I decide to continue pursuing Dell machines...

 

Basically, the dv6t Quad with same parts and 12-cell battery is $1143, but the dv6t Quad only comes with a 1366x768 screen, which is why
I used the dv7t Quad as a comparison. The dv7t's 1600x900 is closer to the SXPS 1645's 1080p display.

 

But it's also a different weight and screen size class. Might as well compare 16" with 15" too... besides, different target markets, the dv6t and dv5t would be closer to the Studio 1557 (or whatever number model). The HDX hasn't been replaced w/ i7 variants and is to compete with the Studio XPS line.

 

You're way off my original point. I wasn't saying any of the HP dv models were direct replacements for the SXPS 1645, I was merely making a statement to the fellow from Malaysia and his comment how $1680 was a great deal for an i7-based notebook, and that for roughly the same equipment, you could even go way cheaper.

Weight, screen size, target markets, inches, pounds, etc...not interested in comparing, really...it was just a price observation.

 

It's all relative. It is a great deal compared to say the Envy in terms of components against price. It isn't so much compared to this and the Studio. Either way we're OT.

 

I think everyone is having a few woes with Dell. I'm just a bit annoyed as it has been over 3 business days since I placed my order and I still don't have an ETA. I placed the order around 9:30AM on Thursday, and it is now 5:30PM on Tuesday here in Australia, still with no ETA. The ETA will probably show up in the next few days, however I have a feeling that it will be an extremely long wait. Here are the specs:

I paid AU $2180 (yes, we do pay a fortune here for notebooks). Although an equally attractive notebook for the price is the Asus G51J, with a GTX 260m and 2x320gb hard drives for AU$2200, although you loose the slimmer form factor and RGBLED screen. I guess I will wait a few more days for an ETA to show up before making a decision. Is it easy to cancel orders once they are made? It should be if the ETA is further than the 10 business days specified on the quote, however I have never had to do this.

As anyone heard about or know if the new i7 revision has the heating issues that I so often hear about in the earlier versions?

Yes guruguy, that sounds like a fortune. If you dont have an ETA, get in chat with a rep, tell him, he will ask your number and confirm status and ETA.

Hi guruguy - I too am still waiting for an ETA on delivery. I ordered on the 10th Oct and I have no update (so its been 7 business days already). I rung Dell on Friday arvo and was told I should have an ETA today but this did not happen. There is another person that just posted to Whirlpool who ordered on the 9th Oct and is in the same boat as us.

The specs for my hardware are the same as yours except I opted for the blu-ray drive. My guess it is the i7 cpu that may be the hold up although it seems people ordering in other regions are getting ETDs it seems (?).

I will be ringing Dell again tomorrow ... I too am considering cancelling the order (I will probably give it until the end of the week).

 

Out of curiosity, will I see my EDD change? It is estimated to arrive the day I go on vacation (11/12). People in this thread said that they tend to over-estimate, but still, I'd like to see some verification of that if it is indeed going to ship earlier.

 

They do tend to overestimate but the i7 chip laptops have not started shipping yet. I ordered mine on 9-25 (day after release of mobile i7) and my EDD is 10-26. Still in production... =/

Maybe once they start shipping, the laptops that were ordered later will spend less time in production but that is just a guess.

 

I'm just curious as if I'll actually see the EDD change on the site. I'm tempted to choose a faster shipping method so it won't come while I'm away.

 

No, they'll either surprise you or be on time as far as I know.

 

In addition, you'll be able to see when your computer gets out of the production phase and into the shipped phase. Once that happens you can estimate when it will be delivered based on your shipping method.

 

Good point! If it starts to get uncomfortably close to the EDD without shipping, I'll call and ask for a better shipping method.

 

at last! after 48 years of waiting, my order is now "in production" and my ETA is on Nov5! cant wait! lol

Just like it took Europe ages to get the 4670, it looks like it's gonna take ages to get the i7's too.

I don't get how everyone else has EDD dates beginning Nov?? Mine is Nov. 20!! We ordered the system on 10/15. I called yesterday to complain and they switched to next day shipping and said they'd put it on "Expedite list". Anyone know what exactly that is?

Well Dell change the offers every Thursday so you might find the 5300 is available then.

The annoying thing is you can buy an XPS1640 and spec the 5300.

 

I just spoke with my Dell rep here in Canada and he told me that corei7 was backorder for 15 days at the beginning of October.

He told me that they now have it and all systems ordered before Oct. 5 (mine was ordered 1st Oct.) should be processed on the next week so everyone that have a EDD of 26 oct. - 2 Nov. Should get their laptop on time.

Still 2 weeks to wait for me... Arg!

Yeah, there is a good chance it will ship before your ESD..thats par usually over estimated anyways to protect Dell from any potential delays!

Now relax, stay awhile...read up on threads to keep yourself busy til the arrival of your new fatastically awesome lappy arrives!

Well my rep got back to me this morning in e-mail saying that he isn't sure what happened to the order and he's looking into it along with a manager from the financing team. I told him that after all we've been through I would like to get upgraded to SSDs on both notebooks we ordered (I purchased the xps16 that i posted as well as an XPS13 for the wifey). If he is unable to oblige I'll be giving team Jaguar a call.

Hopefuly they can at the very least process an order correctly so that it can some day arrive on my doorstep

On an interesting side note, the same rep who placed my order is telling my friend that i referred to him that the RGB screen has never been included on any Dell eValue items because it is a premium upgrade. I think this is a pretty bold-faced lie considering so many of us have gotten it on various deals. I'm losing faith in the one Dell Rep that I had faith in. I'm going to give him Team Jaguar's number as well. If we were to tell Jaguar that we were referred to them by NBR forums do you think we'd get any VIP treatment of sorts?

About 4670, does anyone know if it's a 40nm GPU like the 4830?

 

No. It is 55nm. The 4830 is basically a smaller die-sized 4650 AFAIK

The rep I talked to said that any bag that can fit a 15.6 inch laptop will be fine.

If you aren't sure, I'd call up and ask to talk to an accessories specialist.

 

The 4830 has double the shaders. Sorry forgot to mention that, but same 128bit interface and same clocks. My apologies, forgot that part.
And the fact that it is 40nm helps in the heat production, so you can have it under better control.

 

More shader, oh that's good but I fear that'll also cause more heat, no? May be the extra shaders and 40nm advantage will cancel each other and we'll just get better performance with same heat But that's a good thing.

 

The AU$2180 price is after a 15% off coupon and a futher $50 by haggling. So that would come to AU$2650 before discounts. I'll wait a few more days for the ETA, however I'm expecting something like mid November. I'll try to get Windows 7 with the system, as the sales rep said that there would be a price hike when the system comes with Windows 7, however the price stayed the same.

 

I cant say rexian. The 5830 is a relatively "new" GPU. Well, not new, but never used before. Nor the 5860 which is the better version (GDDR5 and faster clocks), so no reviews/benchmarks are up now, but I am guessing it is above the 4670HD and below the 5850HD. (you could call it a hybrid between the 4xxx 5xxx series). We must wait and see

 

You mean 4830, 4860 and 4850 right? Since mobile version of 5xx0 is not out yet. But I get your point. We'll see. Just need NBR to get an SXPS with i7 and an Envy 15

I just ordered mine! same specs as yours however the 15.6 WLED screen, 9 Cell battery, no office, Mcafee 24 months (thou won't use it) and windows 7. I paid $2040 after 10% off (Autoclub member). You got a pretty good deal there with the RGBLED screen included.

Sales rep said there will be 1 day delay before production due to Windows 7 coming out, and a few more days delay due to processor (I think) he said basically to allow 4-5 days on top standard delivery time. We will see though it seems dell are not too good at sticking with their EDD's!

It's annoying to buy when you could have got a cheaper price, see if it is possible to get this coupon applied, however I am not sure how easy your order can be cancelled. If an ETA doesn't come by the end of the week I will get onto Dell and see what's happening.

Thanks for the coupon but I've already made the purchase and the extra 5% on top of what I already got off, it's really not wth all of the hastle dealing with those guys in malaysia (don't get me wrong, they get the job done and my guy was very helpful & frank, but cancelling, re-ordering etc, I could imagine a nightmare)... my budget was as much as I spent pretty much so the ex off won't help a great deal... wish I had the coupon yesterday though lol! However i'll save the coupon and try for something if the ETA starts getting screwed around (really really badly). Where did this coupon come from or what/who is it for?

Anyways, after waiting for this model to come out for so long (so long ago) then realising I could only get the S15 ($$), and finally ordering the SXPS16 with the new processor range, back home in Aus, i'm just glad to have an order in and look forward to it's arrival. I'm not gonna get too stupid about delivery times as long as I get it in the next 3 weeks (and there are no major sales within those 3 weeks!!). Went down to officeworks yesterday to look at an older model SXPS 16 with 15.6 inch screen and it's a beauty!

OK folks I am new to this forum. I ordered my Studio XPS 16 today with the i7-820, 8GB RAM and 16" Full HD RGB LED 1080p screen. Oh boy I can't wait. I hope this thing will be smooth for working w/Light Room 2.5 and PS CS4. I shoot RAW files only with a Sony A900 25 megapixel camera so my files are huge and I need lots of processing power. I am also very interested to see the new LED panel. I have found many of the comments on this forum helpful in deciding on my new computer. I am currently running a retail release version of Windows 7 and love it (will have the same on my new XPS). It has an ETA of November 10th. I will continue to read threads on the forum to learn and be ready when it arrives.

 

So has anyone got their sxps 1645 shipped yet? The Studio 1557 (15' with i7 720qm) are being shipped already. Just wondering if mine wasn't the only one still at the "in production" phase.
