Hi guys...I overclocked my new XPS a little bit today.![]()
And the 555M is great for overclocking..a lot better as the older 445M in my XPS before.
I overclocked it a lot and the temps are not going over 79C in Games like Crysis and Crysis 2.Before I overclocked the card I played Crysis 2 with 19-25 frames on "very high"..now I can play with 30-35 frames in 1080p.Great.No artefacts or other problems.
But let´s see the score in 3D Benchmark 11:
First the card with no overclocking:

Now with maximum overclocking(great...but too much heat and artefacts in games):

And now my perfekt settings for gaming and the benchmark is not bad at all..:

Nice! Do you have any idea how I could overclock the 550m? I'm sure I would need an unlocked BIOS or some other software right? I haven't overclocked a PC since my desktop several years ago but Laptops are a different story.
-
from most reviews , it seems like gt555 runs quite cool....
so yeah i would be intersted in overclocking a bit also.....
which software u used to overclock??? and also can we permanently set new clocks in GT555 ??? -
can you do some 06? Not sure what good scores are in vantage or 11. I would assume you are getting like 10-11k in 06
-
i think L702X should cross 12k when overclocked in 06....
-
Oh,sorry guys...using the "MSI Afterburner" for overclocking. You can control all dates(temps,fps,clockpower..etc.)ingame in the upper left corner, too. You only need to apply it first in the menue.
Here a pic of my settings...I didn´t overclocked the memory so much, because it brings not really more fps,but the temps are going up.This config was the highest power with great temps in my runs without any artefacts:
Uploaded with ImageShack.us -
That´s right. For permanently overclocked settings you must set the afterburner on "Apply overclocking at system startup" on the down left corner of the display.
@corvette53p:Sorry man,no idea with the 550M card.I only have the 555M and the 445M.The best way is you make it in small steps. And after a step you play a fast Shooter like Crysis 2.
Look at the temps and the fps..and artefacts or mistakes in the graphics.
First I controlled my 445 temps and dates with furmark...but I think that can damage the card very fast.No game f****´s the card like this program..so it´s the better way for me to play real games for controlling. -
appreciate that ...
but i was talking about something hard flash into card ... i guess that will require modified bios or something like this.... -
I don´t know...I´m only overclocking with afterburner. For the working in BIOS my computer "know how" is not good enough.
Here the 3D Mark 06 Benchmarks:
Only the 555M without overclocking:

And now with my settings...in the most scenes the fps are so much more..great..:

Nice score..... even surpassing GTX 460M

I got 12403 with the new driver 270.51 BETA out of the box no O/C at all. Strange
Ooh my CPU is 2720 ...probably is the reason for it. -
You got the 3D display? It seems like the non-3D display laptops are around ~1000 points faster.
11k points is the maximum I can squeeze out of my l702x (2630qm, 3d, 4gigs). -
Yeap it is 900p one. So what actually bother 3d sceens? Driver? Hardware?
-
That's the big question. The yesterday released beta driver from Nvidia didn't improve anything on my site. Maybe there a more differences on the motherboard than just the 4 ram slots and the directly connected 3d screen?
-
So the 270.51 beta are GT 555 compatible? Have you experienced problems?
-
Yep! But the drivers are not signed yet.
Is seems like 3DMark06 is running in 1280x800 on the HD+ panel and in 1280x1024 on the 3D one. Anyone got the advanced edition of 3DMark06, so he can do the test on both resolutions to see if this fact makes the difference from about ~1000 points? -
I think it´s about your CPU.I have only the 2630QM.It would be interesting what score your CPU and my oc settings works in benchmarks.14xxx...15xxx...16xxxx...???
-
Thanks man...like it too.
-
Nope in other forums some people surpass the 12k with the same cpu (2630qm) and the HD+ panel. It has to be something about the drivers or hardware (mainboard).
-
Do you mean that you can use MSI Afterburner on the Dell machine too?
-
How did you install the 270.51 beta drivers? The nVidia installation complains about no compatible hardware. Did you just extract the drivers and manually update it? Laptopvideo2go.com doesn't seem to have a modified INF for 270.51 yet. The package contains a few different drivers such as Gfx, HD audio, and 3D.
-
You have to download the Verde driver (for notebook).... the normal 270.51 are for desktop video card
-
Thanks, I found them. Is it really necessary to uninstall the previous driver first? In the past I've just installed over the existing version. nVidia's instal script should be pretty decent by now I would hope...
I just don't want any driver conflicts.
-
You're right, but better safe than sorry: just uninstall via nvidia unistall manager, then restart in Safe mode and use Driver sweeper, restart and install new driver.
1 min more will not change your life and will spare you from troubles. -
whats the max stable clockspeed you got without artifacts? i want to compare with 6770m can u post benmarks like
avp, bfbc2, mw2, bulletstorm at max out settings? -
So is anyone planning on writing a guide for OC'ing the 555M for those of us less savvy about this sort of thing?
-
The thread starter posted a picture where it goes 760 Mhz core/ 970 memory (from 590/900) without artifacts... I'm now at 690/940 just to be safe
It's kinda easy:
-Install MSI Afterburner
-set core speed (try to stay lower than 760)
-set memory speed (lower than 970)
-click "Apply"
-check the box "Apply overclock ar startup"
-profit
-
so i was wondering, is the gt555m(overclocked as urs) powerful as the gtx 460m ?
-
Not really (460 got 192 pipelines, more mhz and DDR5)... however with heavy overclock the gap is very tiny
-
Hm,ok.I have only the new Dell driver in on my card. You can see it in the afterburner-settings-pic.The new nvidea is a BETA,right?I don´t know the system runs so great with the clock like mine.In games...in benchmarks it looks that the Betadrivers has more power.
-
Before Afterburner (Stock Config):
Here's my results with Afterburner:
-
wow 2000 points jump? nice.
-
Nice score..but why don´t you show your driver in the afterburner pic?
Your afterburner is a BETA?The actual version is the 2.10.You can find it on chip.de or other sites for free download. -
plz post 3d mark 11 p score and show the resolutions and settings u ran on 3d mark 06 is useless also so for gt 555m 760 on the core is stable and without artifacts right?
-
I can confirm same results. Difference is +/- 5-10 points.
Resulution 1280x800(900p screen) same clocks, but the tool I used was nvidiaInspector, cos MSIs one gave me problems with the drivers.
Can someone with 3d screen do the same settings and clocks to see where is the difference in 3D and non-3D screens? -
It must be a Afterburner thing, I'm using the Stock Dell driver. I downloaded the beta & 2.10, I'll install 2.10 and post the results shortly.
Edit:
Not sure why but once again the driver doesn't show up, according to nVidia system information the driver is 267.21
Edit 2:
Re-Ran the tests @ 1600x900 and the results are slightly lower.
-
how much is the 3d mark 11 score P for max oced at 760 core using latest nvidia drivers? please i am comparinng this to amd 6770m
-
I'm not sure what it is you're asking for, I don't know what 11 score P is or how to get it.
Edit: With the power of Google, I found the 3D Mark 11 software, hang tough for a minute while I get some results for you. -
so oced to 760 gives p1649 heh?
which version of nvidia driver u using? can u plz update to latest and run again 3d mark 11? tq -
Yes, 1649.
According to nVidia system information the driver is 267.21, it's the newest as far as I can tell. -
Someone please run 3DMark Vantage.
-
Hang on, it's downloading!
Edit:
Stock:
Afterburner:
-
Is that 1280x1024?
-
Yes, the default settings for Vantage. Were you after something else?
-
Nope just making sure it was at the default resolution.
That's incredible. My 260M only scores 5000, overclocked. -
NVIDIA DRIVERS 270.51 BETA
its beta but it adds a ton features for laptops -
Lol man they have to be trolling GT 485M owners.
-
My card is named "generic vga" in 3D Mark11.Yours is "intel HD graphics 2000/3000"?Is it about the display?Because we have both the 555M card.
You have 21 points more in 3D Mark11 with the stock driver/afterburner settings like me.
But in the results link your clock scores are 0 mhz??? -
I have no idea why these tools don't report some things correctly. MSI Afterburner recognizes my 555M card but not the driver. You'd think that would be a pretty easy thing to detect.
I cannot really answer any questions about benchmarking tools since I had never heard of any of these until I bought this laptop and found this forum.
I'm just running these test to see how my POS matches up with everyone else's.
Edit:
In the stock config results, it shows no processor clock speed, but with Afterburner it reports a processor clock speed of 2394 MHz. I'll re-run the tests today and see if we can get some numbers.
Edit 2:
Re-Ran the test in the stock config and here's the results, once again no clock speed:
http://3dmark.com/3dm11/957906
Re-Ran the test with Afterburner and here's the results, once again no clock speed:
