    As a follow on note, it appears that switching the resolution to 1280x800 makes the scores pop up to 4630. This is probably because the monitor doesn't support 1280x1024, so it upscales to a resolution higher than the default, thus causing the scores to be lower for 1680 screen owners.

    Just download GPU-Z, it will tell you exactlly what you have.

    Sounds about right on everything you mentioned.
    I chose the 1440 knowing it would be better as I've seen all the resolutions before buying.

    Tusin: Have done, all specs are correct to what NVIDIA quote on their site as the 8600M GT.

    Regardless, it's an awesome machine, impressive performance for the mobility factor!
