You will get the 90 watt adapter most likely, depending on when your system goes in to the production phase. Sorry but since you live outside the US or Canada Bill cannot help you. He's currently working on it though, go about 3 pages back for mroe information.
-
The Dell forums will be the alternate place to request the adapter. Todd will be handling those reqeusts, and Brad and I will be handling them here. -
Does anybody know the part number for the 130w PSU (slim) i was contemplating buying one rather than waiting for sometime for us XPS owners outside the U.S
-
And sure, I can multiply output volts by output amps; but this tells me neither what the PSU is actually doing at any one time (as the amps draw is varied by the BIOS) nor what the corresponding AC side power draw would be - as this is affected both by the efficiency of the adaptor (i.e. how much power goes into DC output, and how much into making this adaptor so hot to hold) and the power factor of the adaptor (i.e how much capacitance/reactance phase shift goes on to make the volts lead or lag the amps, so laying off the actual output by some factor from the pure U * I you would only get with a perfect resistive load -

Add me to the list of people who are glad too see a resolution to this throttleing problem. This thread is so busy It took me all week just to get caught up.
I had to wait 2 months for it to get delivered and then had to send it back to get the motherboard replaced. It would consistantly hang when resuming from sleep. So far its been ok, but I have had issues with the screen on rare occations.
I'll get the RED or BLUE screen sometimes when the battery runs low and I plug in the AC. Sometimes, the screen will go black, and I have to plug in an external monitor to switch it back.
Keeping this laptop sure has made me nervous !!

Thanks, mate!!

I imagine the Dell Engineers are monitoring the power draw on the motherboard after this power regulator, to ensure the power components here are not over heated when running on a 19.5 volt supply at nearly 7 amps. We would all be a bit put out if the revised bios allowed the motherboard to self destruct. -
To Dell-Bill_B,
Sorry this is off topic (not about throttling), but since you are monitoring and responding, I thought I'd ask:
Is Dell planning on releasing a firmware update for the Samsung SSD to add TRIM support for Windows 7?
My 1645 Samsung SSD doesn't support TRIM (I think they do now). -
Does the throttling problem discussed include the SXPS 1645 freezing several times a day. Mine does that in addition to the throttling.

Hey all, first post on here but I have been following the whole thing since December 28th. I received my comp on the 24th of December, loaded up Mass Effect, and bam, throttling. Just like on my P.O.S. Toshiba p105-S9337. I thought to myself, holy shnikeys
, this cannot be haunting me from system to system. This cannot be happening. I waited 2 years for Toshiba to address the issue and nothing. Nothing at all.
So, now I am here, and we are on the verge of a miracle. I have many complaints with this system.
1. Throttling
2. Freezing, constantly.
3. Screen flickering
4. Rattling due to vibrations.
I hope 1, 2, and 3, will be solved with the bios and adapter.
4. I don't know why this happens. I had the palmrest, speakers, and subwoofer removed and replaced. My system also had a missing screw. The guy came by today, replaced those things, and the problem still exists. I called tech support and got it straightened out though. Can't tell you how.
So, overall, the system has lots of problems and is definitely a major time waster with all the troubleshooting and shnit. It performs like a beast however. I got mine fully loaded with everything except the ssd.
Worth the money, yes, but not the headaches.
I will be PMing you Bill when you say go. Until then, thanks for your hard work. I can honestly say you do a better job than TO- P.O.S4it- BA. -

OK, folks. Here we go. I guess due to my being classified as a "Notebook Retailer," I do not have rights to start a new thread. So, if someone could kindly copy and paste my message below to a new thread and post the URL back here, I'll go start working the thread and my PM box. My PM box is now empty, and I'm ready to roll. So start the Benny Hill theme music and load me up.

I would like to send 130 Watt, slim AC Adapters to NBR community members who own throttling Studio XPS 1645's. 1647 owners, you are coming next, but your BIOS update is going to be after Chinese New Year, so let me take care of the 1645 folks first, please. It was not clear after the conference call last Thursday night whether 1647 would be needing a 130 Watt adapter, but I got an email today that says we will be sending them out for 1647 as well.
What I need in PM from you to send out the adapters:
1. your service tag
2. your current shipping address to include your name.
Brad will be dispatcing AC adapters to customers who request them on the Dell forum via PM. Todd will be assisting me here. You can send your request to Todd if I do not reply fast enough. I'm shooting for less than 1 business day to reply. I am ordering these as new parts, which means they will possibly ship via UPS or FedEx ground. I'm just not sure. We will find out in the next couple of days when they start going out how they are being shipped.
Once I reply, there is no need to reply back to the PM. I want to keep my inbox as lean as possible, so I can get them out as quickly as I can.
If you have already sent me a PM about the adapter, please send it again. I had to delete all my existing PM's to be fair to those who waited to send them as I had requested.
What you need to know:
1. A07 is slated to post soon. I am sorry, but they are still asking me not to go public with the date at the time of this posting. They are trying to get A07 web posted ahead of Chinese New Year. If it does not make it by then due to failing out of test, it will surely be a short time after that week. The latest update I got is, "We are checking the validation data and status daily, so far so good."
2. The adapter alone, without installing A07, will give you absolutely zero relief from throttling. You will need to wait until we post the new BIOS.
3. You will not be required to return your existing 90 Watt adapter.
4. If you purchased a 130 Watt from Dell.com, Dell sales, Dell spare parts, or a third party retailer, you are still entitled to receive a 130 Watt adapter from me.
5. If you have an order in production, please PM me the order number, and I will try to check the order details to verify whether you will be receiving a 130 Watt with your system. If the order details are not visible to me yet, or if they indicate a 90 Watt, I will just send you the 130 Watt to save you the aggrevation.
6. If there are any questions that I missed, please use the new thread that someone will kindly start for me.
7. If you are outside the US or Canada, I am very sorry, but I cannot replace the adapters for you myself. I cannot guarantee anything, but if you want to try to just send me your information anyway, I will try to locate someone in your region to send you an adapter. If I cannot get it done for you in regions outside of North America, you will have to wait until we post an official announcement on our corporate blog, Direct2Dell.
8. For other issues raised with the 164x series, please start a new thread or drop the URL for any existing threads in the "AC Adapter replacement thread," and I will ask Brad and Todd to look them over. If they are large in scope, I will size them at all venues on the internet, and get them into my internal process for escalating issues to engineering.
Thanks for your patience, and let's get rolling, folks! -

For those who don't know, Chinese New Year is February 14th this year, on the same day as Valentine's Day. I can't imagine Dell releasing the BIOS on a Saturday or a Sunday so I guess they are aiming to release it on or before this Friday?
-
sorry to ask the silly question, but where is the PM link or button? Or do I not have privilege to send PM's yet?

@Bill_B
Any word on the 1640 throttling issue? -
OK. An update. There was feedback in this thread about our BIOS release notes being lacking. I took this feedback to the engineers, and after a spirited "exhange of ideas" between them and myself, they are going to provide more detail. I just saw their first draft of the release notes. If they wind up going with this version, the engineers and tech heads here will be more than pleased. I would copy and paste it in here, but I am waiting for them to finalize their discussion. -

Its probably too early but i was wondering if there is any update on the heating of the 1645's
-
Please see this post regarding an update to 1647.

Just order mine during the first week of January, and has already been delayed twice. Hope to get it in my next week. I wander if it will have the new bios update and new 130w adapter.
-
Really great to see that it is really coming.
As an outsider from US or Canada, I still need to wait for more.
But as you suggested, I will send my info to you.
The only problem is that I did not reach the minimum post counts for a PM. -
Any news on the benchmark post or when that will be posted on direct2dell regarding A07. Not the actual bios, but the post with benchmarks that was mentioned to happen this week (I thought - could be wrong).
-
On the Dell Forums please read this post. I put it up with information on how to contact me and what information I need.
Todd -
I have updated the main page, linking to the other thread in this forums. And for those without pm options a link to the dell forum provided by todd earlier.
First one with before and after benchmarks using throttlestop for logging wins a cookie!!! -

On Mass Effect I set everything to high, on battery I have no throttling.
Bill, I am never gonna get enough posts the fair way, so I am going to just write these B.S. posts. Hope that is ok with you. -
I too have the problem of the uneven battery surface towards the left side. It's ugly.
-
And yes please dont spam to get post count, For those new without pm ability sign up at dell forums and pm them there. -
Dam, you just made me really curious. I'm not sure I'd understand it anyways LOL.
Bill, I emailed you. Should I send you a PM as well. I'll wait your response I don't want to be part of the problem filling up your PM box again. -
Finally, I hope I can run NFS Shift in real speed, no more lagging when the car hit something. (My friend's Desktop can run max graphics with no lag at all with only half the price of my 1645) -
-
-
Glad this is finally going to get fixed! I'm guessing sometime before this weekend A07 will be out.
-
Has this issue been posted worldwide to Dells various offices?
-
Tired of having a non working computer... HOW loong will customers outside US need to wait before we even can get a decent answer from countrys own support? -
FYI, my adapter was shipped through FedEX and came "Next Business Day"
Next Business Day means (Monday-Friday), no sat or sun deliveries.
Also for those that don't know, you can go to the Dell website and sign in with your user-name and password, and then click on My Account to follow/track your Adapter delivery.
Enjoy -
I talked to Dell support Sweden for about 5 min ago . They told me that we will not get 130w adapter yet because they have tried it out and the result was a burning motherboard... is this true ? im really TIRED of this now , have called support in sweden several times but they dont help me.... what to do Dell workers at this forum ?
-
If you call Dell support 5x, i can guarantee that you'll get at least 3 different replies.
Please just call some people at the EU department and have them send out adapters too!!
Thanks
