Great news, I am glad that finally Dell is doing this the right way!
Thank you again Bill. You will be hearing from me soon, once the 1647 bios update is released.. -
I posted the same info in the other thread but this won't be buried as quickly so I'll post it here as well.
Chinese New Year is February 14th this year, on the same day as Valentine's Day. I can't imagine Dell releasing the BIOS on a Saturday or a Sunday so I guess they are aiming to release it on or before this Friday, February 12th. -
This is a great news...I can't wait for the BIOS update for 1647..... Thanks Bill!!!
-
OK. I knew something was too good to be true. Just got an email from the engineer. He says that 1647 will not require a 130 Watt adapter. You will be getting a new BIOS shortly after Chinese New Year, and testing so far shows it eliminates throttling. If you find out differently at that time, or if we need to revisit the 130 Watt question on 1647, just let us know after you install A04.
Everything else is going according to plan, except my wife says I have to take a break and play with my son. I'll be back after he goes to bed. -
Very, very very great news.
I hope this fixes everything, I allready liked the system when not gaming, but I would like to see it's full potential in CPU/GPU intense applications. -
Go play with your son, you've done enough! -
Appreciate all your help Bill.
Thank you -
I really hope this problem is fixed this week. That would be great. Thanks Bill for helping with getting this issue fixed.
-
Well, it's not that bad. If we discover we need more adapter, and the BIOS is alreay up, it's just a simple matter of flipping the switch and telling tech support to ship them for 1647's upon request. -
Thanks Dell-Bill_B. Super effort!

@Bill_B
Thanks, you covered it in the other thread. -
w00t!
Oh, and I think everyone included needs to take a mandatory break from the forums for at least one week to actually enjoy this laptop (or enjoy the peace of not having to answer my emails....lol). I'm disgusted by my post count...

If that's the case can I borrow some of your posts ? I don't have enough posts to send the PM
-
-
-
Thanks for the efforts.
-
Thanks very much, Bill. It was great to see the one like you in a forum.
I need one more post to send a PM to you.
-
Excellent news! Thanks Bill
-
My PM box is clear, and I'm calling it a night, folks. Keep them coming, and I'll be back at it tomorrow. I probably will not have time during office hours to get to too many, but I will be at it after I get home and spend some family time. Gnight, all.
-
Now what about all the ordering problems bill? This month it's the rgbleds...
-
Now, gnight for real. -
-
Thank you very much! Can't wait to have the 130w psu!
-
As so how long I've been waitng, adding up all the bs i've gone through, just about a month. -
Hello Bill, could you please find out how this works in Europe and if there is a contactperson?, the Netherlands especially
Thanks. -
Hello Bill,
thanks to you and to all the Dell people's that have worked on this issue.
I would ask if European people can send the PM to you also, since seems that Todd are accepting only US and Canada request in the official Dell forum.
Thanks for your response! -
what kind of adapter are we recieving? is it a slim? and if its possible a picture?
-
While I am NOT an XPS 1645/1647 Owner, I DO think once things have settled down a bit, that maybe a mass email into Michael Dell's Inbox on behalf of all the work that Bill Todd and - Im blanking on the third fellow's name - for taking the initiative and visiting this forum and then RESPONDING to all the complaints and requests.
I don't know HOW Bill got involved or found out about this forum, but I think he should get some accolades about what he's done here the past couple of weeks on behalf of his company and Michael Dell should definitely know who he is. -

So I guess those with throttling 1640s are out of luck?
So happy for you guys. -
-
The actual size of the 130W slim adapter is:
Length = 6 inches
Width = 3 inches
Height = 1 inch thick -
-
I understand this only applies to US/Canadian customers?

When should we expect to see a confirmation of shipment?
-
I saw this list on the Dell forum:
1. Your full name
2. Your shipping address (cannot be a PO Box)
3. The service tag of your Studio XPS 1645
4. Title your PM "Replacement 130 watt adapter - SERVICE TAG (and, of course, substitute your lservice tag in the title) This will help me to keep the PMs a bit more organized.
5. The owner name and shipping address should match those on record for the system. If they do not, I will not be able to send out a replacement adapter.
Does this, especially point 5 also count for us ? As I shipped my system to another place as where I am right now... -

Cool, I just gave 'm my new address and said it's changed...

One more thing in case I didn't spell it out before, this is not my usual role. I jumped in due to the magnitude and in light of the fact that we were not showing any movement that was publicly evident. It is rare when you see me engaged like this. I used to be "that guy," so this is nothing new to me, and it's kinda nostalgic, TBH. Just know that I'm always the guy inside pushing buttons, and I do see what you guys are saying in most cases.
Since I have regular duties that I have to attend to during normal business hours from 8-5, CST, M-F, I can only get to my PM box after work and family time and on the weekends. I'm not going anywhere until the volume of dispatches is low enough that I can transition the outliers to Todd and Brad. So, typically you will see my canned responses to your PM's and the dispatches going down after hours. So, that will add 1 day to whatever lead time you may be thinking when you send the PM. -
I was just curious on this comment. Does this mean if we install the new BIOS and purchase a 130 watt adapter, the system would utilize the extra juice?
I am not as concerned with Dell making the fiscal decision of acknowleding the need to provide adapters to 1647 owners as I am with having the ability run my system at full performance levels without 3rd party software. -
@Bill: Quick question regarding shipped adapters...
I received your notification via PM that I can expect an AC adapter in 2-3 business days, barring unforeseen delays. Will I receive a tracking number and/or will the adapter order appear in my account on Dell's website? (I currently have no orders listed)
Thanks again!
