Just double-checked. No orders appear for me. Perhaps it has something to do with my 1645 being an EPP purchase?

YAY! Just joined to say I'm excited that Dell resolved this issue! I've been following this thread since I placed my order, and now that I have my laptop, I'm happy that I don't have to deal with the throttling for much longer. (I thought it was over-exaggerated, but holy crap its annoying).

I put in the billing address and shipping address in the PM because they were different. Also, does anyone know if this will have any effect on the RGB LED flickering? Because that is the only other issue I have with my lappy.

    Thanks Dell!

Good question. I had the engineer on my conference call this morning. I wish I had asked this. I will chase him down and ask.

I really don't know what the deal is with some orders showing up in customer accounts and some not. Bottom line, if you don't have it by Friday, shoot me another PM and let me know.

I had originally broadcasted to just PM me your order number if you don't have your system yet, but there's been some internal chatter from the parts planners about inventory levels, so I'm kind of backing off that and thinking I should put priority on those who already have their systems. All the planners have been notified in all regions, so I would guess the supplier should be up to speed some time after Chinese New Year. I would wait until I got the system to request the adapter just to be fair to my fellow owners with systems already in hand.

Ok thanks bill for the quick response. And that makes sense, because my 130w would just be sitting here untill my laptop comes in. Just gotta wait for the XPS now.

For those who may be interested, I just received an e-mail conformation from Todd over at Dell forum stating my adapter is ordered and on its way. Woo-Hoo!

However, it is not showing up in the my account/order status on Dell.com and I now see I am not the only one. No big deal though, might still be processing. As long as it shows up at my door, I'll be happy.

ETA is 2 to 3 business days, ASSUMING no supply problems. Good luck to everyone on their shipments.

A07 countdown is on, Lets just hope they get it right, Right is better than fast, even though we've been waiting a while for a fix.

FYI, my adapter was shipped through FedEX and came "Next Business Day"

Next Business Day means (Monday-Friday), no sat or sun deliveries.

Also for those that don't know, you can go to the Dell website and sign in with your user-name and password, and then click on My Account to follow/track your Adapter delivery.

    Enjoy

With all due respect bill, that's crap. Its going to take another 2 weeks at least for the dust to settle with the 1645. Then you have to bring it up to the engineers? Its not like its a different problem, ITS THE SAME PROBLEM! There is no investigation that needs to be done, its already been done for you just like we did it for you on the 1645s. The 1640s were the first model to come out, but yet the 1645 and now a 2 month old 1647 gets priority? Ive had this for 5 months..Dont you think it's logical to take care of the issues that came out first? Just because we didn't know about it until now doesn't mean it didn't exist. The 1640s had throttling issues way before the 1645s even came out, and you're telling me to wait for all the people who bought laptops AFTER me to get their fix first.

From what you say, a solution is not even guaranteed and probably will be at least another month out.

So glad I was guinea pig for dell and Im so glad I spent $2000 on a product and warranty that only helps me after it helps its newer customers first.

To be quite honest all I want to do is return the darn thing. I've had nothing but unpleasant experiences with this. I shouldnt have to spend the majority of my time on a notebook forum trying to diaganose whats wrong with my laptop and looking for fixes. That's all I do with this laptop.

I am sorry you think it's crap. Is there a link to the 1640 throttling discussion you could drop into this thread? I realize I could search and find it, but you would be doing me a favor if you could point me to the thread. Thanks.

    Edit:

As I said on the first post of this thread...

"8. For other issues raised with the 164x series, please start a new thread or drop the URL for any existing threads in the "AC Adapter replacement thread," and I will ask Brad and Todd to look them over. If they are large in scope, I will size them at all venues on the internet, and get them into my internal process for escalating issues to engineering."

I just noticed that blu-ray players were back available for the 1645 (i didnt check 1647). My order is still in pre-production I'm assuming because of the RGBLED with EDD of 2/25. Half wanting to call in and see about adding a blu-ray player, but at this point I don't want to do anything that might result in even more delays or problems. If anyone else with a current order does something, please post how it goes.

Sigh. I got a reply from the order management team about parts causing order delays by platform. The problem was 1645 and 1647 were not covered in the reply, so I had to send a follow up email. Apologies for the delay. I will stay on it until I get an answer.

Sorry for the late start tonight, folks. I just cleared my PM box. To all those outside the US and Canada, sorry again. The BIOS should post really soon, so please be patient. When it goes live, tech support will get a globally broadcast message to start sending ac adapters upon request.

Gnight all. See you tomorrow night.

FYI, to all that keep asking Bill, Todd from Dell to check and see if they got your reply, you are just slowing down the process by having them stop and look for your "PM". It will go much faster if you could be a little patient and give it some time as I am sure they are flooded with "PM's". Just keep checking your PM and also you can check at Dells website to see if your order was processed.

Thanks and have a nice day.

There is no 1640 throttle thread Bill. It is mixed in the 1645 thread because the issue wasn't known until it surfaced on the 1645s. The reason why I think its crap because you're telling me you basically have to start from scratch and there is no guarantee anything will happen. The only reason 1645s got any attention from you was because you couldn't ignore the huge amount of people complaining and like I said, the 1640 won't come close. The #s of people who reported throttling on 1640s pales in comparison to 1645s and from the looks of what you're saying won't get any attention because of that. There needs to be a separate investigation even though its the same problem? That doesn't make any sense. The only way the 1640 will get any attention is if its tacked on with the rest of the 164X's because its the same problem..Why don't you understand that?

    Bill,

Good to hear the fix is coming soon! I love this laptop, but have noticed the throttling during gaming. I'll keep an eye out for A07 posting on the Dell site.

Now, I have a question... I'm currently deployed to Iraq and I know some manufactures do not ship to APO. Would this be the case here or will Dell ship the replacement power supply to an APO address?

I think 1645 users got a fix before 1640 because some of us, 1645 users, were very involved in this issue (atlstang, Unclewebb, ikjadoon, Zlog) and have spent so many hours trying to find the problem, do the testing and report here on this forum. (Big thank to those guys!)

Now that you got all the tools needed to proove that your 1640 is experiencing throttling, why don't you start a thread with your testing results? I'm pretty sure other 1640 users will come soon and help you to get the same attention from Dell we were able to get.

p.s.: Sorry for my english. It's not my native tongue.

Wait a minute. Here's what I don't understand. Your are telling me it's crap that I have told you that I am busy dealing with an issue on the 1645, but promised to look into your issue as soon as I could- an issue which has no thread of its own, an issue which is not admittedly widely reported? I have to prioritize somehow, and I think it's more than a bit myopic on your part to come into a thread entitled "Solution S-XPS 1645/1647 Throttling Issues," and call me out publicly for not addressing your issue with the 1640. I think it's only reasonable to ask you to start your own thread so that I can gather data as far as issue severity, overall impact to Dell and our customers, and volume of comments so that Dell can make a decision based on a business and customer experience case to move forward.

So, I should take some of the bandwidth away from myself and the engineers working to serve a customer base of thousands of 1645 and 1647 owners to look at a problem that is not nearly as widely reported as this one?

Look give the guy a chance, he cant deal with 20 million issues at once can he, all i know he could have just ignored everybody here and the thread would be in its millions. Just let him do what he is best at and he will deal with other issues if need to be at an appropriate time.

I think everybody's getting too emotional to the prospect of this issue being resolved.

Just give the man some breathing space!!!!!!!!

Thanks Bill. Just saw my order number on the Dell site. To all those hacked off, please show some courtesy. Bill has shown a willingness to honestly address real problems. To those asking for a return on their pm, please show some patience. Just wait a day or two and check the Dell site. Dell is solving this problem and Bill has put in many extra hours. A little gratitude would seem to be in order, not flames.

One more thing. To those who say I'm responding as I have only because MY problem is close to being resolved, it's not true. I've been following this from the start, and have found that simply waiting and doing what is requested when it is requested without flaming or insinuating worked just fine.
