I got the Bizlink cable with my 130W. Holding it side-by-side with the Volex from my 90W, they look exactly the same size... but apparently the bend in the Volex is just a sliver wider, and it makes all the difference.
For those of you who received the Bizlink, swap it over to the 90W. Unless yours isn't the same as mine (which is certainly possible), it should work fine with it, and you'll end up with two fully functional adapters.

reply 10 times to this post before PM? Hmmm, I was able to PM Bill, but I guess that will not work so I have to go to Dell forum? or post 9 more of these?

I mean other than being able to swing it around your head without coming unplugged. (I don't do that very often).
seems to me inline would make more sense. -

I got mine today, ordered on Monday or Tuesday. I did have to shove the power cord in but it seemed to fit ok I think. the power brick is a bit thicker than the 90W one.
-
Bill just wanted to let you know that my order along with about 5 other people who have been stuck in pre-production for weeks have finally moved into the build stage of production.
I'M assuming there was a new shipment of RGBLED's? -
Its a very small difference, I couldn't visually tell them apart. -
-
-
-
Yesterday, if you wanted to order an RGBLED it was a delay of 61 days. It has since gone down so hopefully the new shipment of RGBLED's is sufficient for a while. -

THanks BILL

Let the testing begins.............

Thanx alot Bill and its crew and Dell.
Now just waiting for an official announcement in Direct2Dell so that all the global customers get their 130W AC Adapter -
Thanks bill.
-
Thanks Bill.

Great news. Thanks, Bill!
-
not such great news.. according to some users the laptop still throttles in several games, and thats in real scenarios, without considering the prime95 + furmark.

I got my adapter the next day after I ordered it. Wow! I don't know when is the bonus time at Dell, but I sure hope Bill gets a HUMONGOUS one this time, after all that he's done for the company.
This experience has improved the image of Dell tremendously in my eyes. I'll definitely be buying Dell products in the future.
Dell needs to hold on to people like Bill, and make sure they're happy, well-paid, etc, etc, etc!!! Especially since the guy has been doing all of this on his own time. He pretty much made it his job to solve this problem. I'm totally impressed! -
Getting identical performance with or without Throttlestop on the Crysis benchmark using A07 bios.
-
Initial look at A07 it would appear as if the battery multiplier is stuck at 7X while there is significant improvement on 130 watt.
This is a dissapointment to me as this was not a desktop replacement for me but rather I am one of the few that appreciated better performance on battery. -
Maybe an idea to start a seperate topic with comparison results for A06 and A07?
-
Just updated and tried Anno 1404. Works flawlessly now. Full brightness, keyboard light on and all details on and I'm getting 12-13 multiplier (i7-720). When I switched to battery multiplier dropped to 11-12. I ran for a few minutes and then plugged back in. Even with battery charging, I was getting 12-13 again. Guess I need to install Crysis again and see what happens.
-
Any update on non-USA people? Or should I just send my details to you bill??

I think that the system is so close to throttling with current games, as soon as an RTS comes out that uses 4 threads to good effect. This laptop will throttle and we will be in the same boat.
Games are going multithreaded people, and not just to increase the graphics. So that means our 4670s will still be fine, but the cpu, a CoreI7, will be the limiting factor IN THIS SYSTEM. Because it will run at 1ghz, instead of 1.6+
Try running your games and adding 2 threads of Prime 95. Something that should be well within this systems ability. -
Strike that!
Seems the power on processor got dumped back to to zero. Upped it back to 100% and I'm much happier. -

I'm hoping to get a few opinions. I am not a gamer. I am a photographer, and I use the 1645 for Photoshop and other photography applications. Those applications don't stress the laptop's resources nearly as much as the things that many of you use your computers for. During the 3 months that I've had mine, it has performed superbly at doing the tasks that I need it to do. In fact, the difference in performance between my 1645 and my $3500 custom built desktop is marginal (for the tasks I do with it).
Here is my dilemma. I have the 130 w adapter and was ready to install firmware version A07. However, considering that I'm not pushing the computer to the maximum, that it has performed up to my expectations with A03, and that I'm concerned about the possibility that something in BIOS version A07 might, for example, increase the amount of time that the fan is running (right now it runs only rarely, and the computer is quite cool) or change something else that makes things worse for me, is there even any point in my installing A07, or would I be better off just sticking with A03.
Thanks for any input here.

what ac adapter did you guys got from Bill? mine is thicker than the other and i cant correctly connect the cable from the electricity to the adapter to it being thick

peste19,
There was some discussion on this earlier, three solutions came up.
One was to just jam it on, it'll go, just not perfectly square.
Two was to switch cords with your 90watt, it is only a power cord and the 90 is said to fit better.
Three was to use an xacto knife and cut a little bit off the plastic where it hangs up (do so unplugged please!), some were trying that.
Mine came and though it was tight, I just used option one and it looks okay to me. I'm using it right now with A07 and happy as can be.
THANKS BILL! -
Little dilemma with A07. Midway through the flashing process, Win7 decided to take a stroll down Freezeville
(not the first time this has happened
). In other words, the flashing process was essentially stopped as everything locked up and the progress bar did not move after about an hour of waiting. I then decided to manually shut down the laptop. Problem is now that i restarted the machine, i cannot get the installer to go through flashing the bios once more b/c it states i already have this version installed. Same goes for installing A06. Anyone know how to force the installer into flashing the bios once more
? Much appreciated....

Maybe you should try A03?

Just spoke with Dell Tech Support in the UK. No issues at all with the AC Adapter replacement, spent some time going through the System details and shipping address etc. Even received a confirmation email before the call had finished stating that the new adapter would be deliverred tomorrow. (So far so good)
Let see if they ship me the old style brick, or the new style slim line. Will update the board tomorrow.

Hi, just finished a call with french tech support for XPS line 5 minutes ago.
After keeping me a few minutes on hold for checking their internal KB they came back to me explaining that :
- as of today the A07 BIOS fixes all known issues by itself.
- no new PSU is needed and if this should be the case customers would/will be directly contacted by DELL (as for a regular recall campaign i suppose).
Anyway, Bill : i know A07 has been out in the wild just for 3 days now but any ETA for this worldwide communication to support teams would be highly appreciated.
Thanks again. -
Just got confirmation on the shipped 130w adapter, Big thanks to Brad and Bill. Will flash 1645 to A07 tonight.
Again thanks-you guys.
