Cool. I'll definitely try then. Also, I tried WEI again a few times and got a 6.9 for the processor, so it must have been a fluke.

    Specs:
    - Core i7-820QM
    - 8 GB DDR3 RAM
    - 256 GB SSD
    - 16" RGBLED
    - Intel 5300
    - ATI 4670
    - Bluetooth

    Warranty exchange:
    - Same as above but ATI 5730
    - Intel 6300

    Reason:
    5730 > 4670

I think this will be my last free replacement since my warranty runs out in July.

I know what you are doing to do... send it back! ;)

but anyway I was supposed to receive a call from my indian handler before my new replacement shipped and it seems my 1645 was already shipped this morning and no call, hopefully I will see some nice goodies in there.

Has anyone else received their replacements this quickly? That was literally a call the day before and shipped 1 day later, I hope they aren't sending me one of you cbaty's old ones or something haha

For some reason they don't let me see the specs before hand, this is the 2nd time they only updated it on my service call status page

    first time:
Y174G BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP)..., NOTEBOOK..., CPEN, P7350, XPS-1640 00001
2835C MODULE..., DOCUMENTATION..., AIRBORNE..., 2-DAY, DELL DRCT 00001

I knew that was wrong immediately when it said 7350

    2nd:

TMJ06 BASE (ASSEMBLY OR GROUP)..., NOTEBOOK..., EXTREME PERFORMANCE SYSTEM..., 1645, CLF, CTO 00001
    14VXC MODULE..., PROCESSOR..., CLF, XXXXX, 1.6, 6MB, 1645 00001

So yeah pretty vague other then knowing it has the 720

Wait, the reason you got a 5730 is because it is greater than the 4670?
How'd you manage that? And how was it a "free replacement" :O

Your system is fully loaded! (except for a bluray drive maybe)
Do you experience any throttling with the RGBLED?
Vikram_Rajpal told me that the RGBLED may cause it.

Well figured I'd post here also, seems lots of replacement systems are arriving. I got my replacement system today as well, now I just need some time for testing...Hopefully I am now DONE WITH DELL...

So basically almost 3 months, $600.00+, 20+ phone calls, 4 tech visits, 1 depot attempt, 3 motherboards, 4 heat sinks, 3 fans, 2 palm rests, 1 DVD, 1 LCD, many small parts and countless hours later I have a new replacement 1645 system.

06/12/10 - Dell agreed to send replacement system
06/23/10 - A new 1645 shows up at my door

Noteable changes from prior system are:
    refurbished > new
    4670 > 5730
    320GB > 256GB SSD
    Black > Red

Posted a bunch of pictures in my log thread:

Okay, I spoke with tech support, and complained about the screen. The tech then said he would send someone to replace the screen with an RGBLED 16", as if there was no problem. I am guessing they are interchangeable.

Also, they apparently still make these screens.

Got the 5730 today, and if you are not watching the other throttling thread, the 5730 720 combo still throttles...

Not sure whether to even bother with Dell right now... rather wait until a real refresh comes that can perform as advertised....

    3670 graphics
    250gb hdd
    RGB screen

Mine was "In Production" for only a few hours then shipped same night, I had the blu-ray and ssd installed in my replacement system by an onsite tech. the blu-ray to match my old system and the ssd for compensation for the drop from a 16 to 15.6 screen. This was after speaking with the customer support/replacement support person at dell who called me about a week after receiving the replacement.

Wait so you were able to request for the ssd upgrade for going from FullHD RGB screen to a FullHD LED even though they upped you to a 1645? I want to know how to do that in case they don't give me my RGB screen!

Issue was games would play fine for a few mins then slow way way down. They sent a 130 watt adapter and changed the bottom plastics on Trip 1 which we know wont solve the issue.

Trip 2 they swapped motherboards and vent assembly. New issue where video was garbage on lcd. Tech said it was a driver issue, But after a reload had same issue. Spoke to tech support and they said they would send tech out with another motherboard and lcd to fix it and if that did not resolve the issue they would replace the laptop.

Trip 3 replaced mobo and lcd. new mobo had the 3670 vid card so i was even worse shape than where i started at. Called dell and tech agreed to replace the laptop but he told me the xps1640 could not play any games more demanding than solitaire due to the fact that it had onboard video and not a dedicated graphics card. this of course was utter bs but he agreed to replace the system but he said I would receive the same xps1640 for a relacement. That thankfully was not the case. got the 1645 and it was worlds better and my games wow, torchlight, civ 4 all played with no issues. replacement support called me a week later and i informed them of the missing blu-ray issue and that the screen was smaller than the 16' one on the 1640 she said that they usually offer to upgrade either memory or cpu to compensate for that but since I was more than happy with both of those asked her if she could exchange the 500gb hard drive for an ssd. She put me on hold a few mins and came back and said the largest ssd they had was 256gb would that be acceptable and I said sure. So tech came out couple days later installed the blu-ray and ssd. I am very pleased with the 1645 and have no issues at this time. So I guess my point was with them not that I had a better screen but a larger screen and she accepted that as being valid. She was much easier than any previous techs to work with but she was with the "replacement" dept i guess?

Yeah I know which is why corporate was supposed to call me,

in you all's opinion what would be the best thing I could request for:

in place of my RGB display: ask for the ssd, upgrade to 5730, or ask for them to frankenstein my old on onto the replacement

or if possible take the 4gb ram (I don't think they will go this route) and ask for 2 of the above

I am also missing my black leather which was one of my favorite parts :(

I would demand BOTH the new 5730(for lower power consumption purposes) and the SSD on top.... and yeah also the leather... should be manageable.

You could fight for an RGBLED but I (never having owned one, but have had both 900p and 1080WLED) would give it up in spot for those other parts personally........

I do like the RGb a lot but if I was to get those two in place of the screen I could live with that

Yea, the RGBLED is crazy better than the WLED, I had the two side by side when they sent a replacement.

If they gave me an SSD and 5730 in compensation however, I would take it.

The thing about RGBLED's is it is kind of like a digital vibrance setting. When you first turn it on, it seems a little too colorful, but when you get used to it, it is beautiful.

Once you get used to it and turn it off, everything seems almost colorless, grey even.

The supervisor of a dell corporate is going to contact me today, I requested an even higher authority and after 3 hours of arguing he finally made a call appointment for me. :D

nice! and yeah I feel the same way not only do the colors seem bland but the screen feels that much smaller as well, and if I am carrying around the same notebook either way it would be nice to get as much real estate as possible

So it turns out that even with consent in the form of email, that I can not discuss other peoples orders with Dell.

(Corporate Vikram Rajpal told me that we couldn't discuss it until we had the order number, and when I got it said we can not discuss it until we have consent, and when I got it said we can not talk about it at all.)

It isn't really a problem anymore because the supervisor of Mr. Rajpal has been very, very cooperative with me. He said I should be getting every upgrade listed, besides the solid state drive.

Although I really wanted an SSD, I am pretty happy with what they are sending me. He said it is a brand new system. (I bought a refurbished one for $985)

1-3 days til the in production stage is over and it ships!

Aww thats too bad about the ssd but at least you are getting a nice hdd, processor, and ram upgrade

They unfortunately could do nothing for me yet because somehow no one knows the specs of my system because my warranty has not transferred

It's the same HDD, but I know what you mean :)

I'm gonna see if I can get the ram upgrade replaced with a SSD as I never asked for ram..

Who knows.. doesn't hurt to try

Oh and also, does anyone know or has anyone been able to do a screen swap?
I have an RGBLED on my original system and if I can, I wanna have a technician come in and do a quick swap.

I asked the supervisor but he said he couldn't discuss anything until the system arrived.

Well I got a call from corporate today and he agreed to send me a different hdd but not ssd, and he will replace my leather trim so tech will come sometime next week

He refused to give me the 5730 upgrade and said RGB is not possible even though I told him to take some ram back... UGH!!

Wow, corporates are pretty strict man. I couldn't get anything accomplished with mine. Try talking to his supervisor! Good luck

Well got my 1465, the fun powers up and down constantly from full speed to medium and never really goes off... cycles every 2-3 minutes and is VERY annoying.
