I tried the device manager again, clicked on monitor and it said Generic PnP Monitor. SO I guess I don't have the RGB? But I think I do have a LCD.

Well, right-click Generic PnP Monitor and hit properties. Go to the last tab. Go to Hardware_ID.

SEC 488 or something like that is the RGBLED. However, mine says MS_0000 (even after a restart). So, it still might be...

SEC5448 is the RGB-LED. I've had the MS_0000 Bug, too. But it went to normal by itself.

Another excited owner of a new Studio 1645 here. Ordered from dell.ca on May 17th with ESD of June 7th with the following specs:

    i7-720QM
    6GB DDR3 @ 1333MHz
    HD 4670
    500GB 7200rpm HDD
    Blu-ray combo
    Soundblaster Xfi MB
    1080p WLED

    $1529 Canadian after $309 savings.

Originally I was going to get the Studio 15 for $1419 with $469 savings with same cpu, ram, screen, optical and hdd but he better video card and included backlit keyboard and bluetooth made sense for the extra $110.

lol, yeah i dont know what gave me the idea for the name...it just sounds funny because its unique and random.

Is there a way to check on the type of power adapter they're sending me in "my account" order details? if so whats the Sku for the 130w adapter?

Also I have been building desktop pc's for years but I dont know much about notebooks nor have I ever opened one so hopefully I dont have heat issues. I plan to use this notebook for everyday use most of the time and as a multimedia center for watching Blu-ray and hd movies on my home theatre system via hdmi. I am concerned about the GPU throttling I keep hearing about...I just sold my higher end gaming pc which could run most games maxed at 1080p res. I know the gpu in this notebook is mid-range so I'm assuming I can run games like Left4dead 2, Mass Effect 2, Modern Warfare 2 and Gears of War on high at 720p res and games like Bad Company 2 and Crysis Warhead on medium at 720p?

I can't imagine you will have any heating issues when watching movies or doing any normal, everyday tasks. I personally hasn't ever had throttling while playing games, but then again I only play games like Dawn of War II, Counter-Strike: Source, Team Fortress II, and STALKER. I've been able to play all of these at full res (1920x1080) with max details and achieve smooth framerates.

Im curious as to what the "soundblaster xfi mb" software allows me to do. Is it similar to realtek hd audio control panel? I liked the realtek setup because it allows you to matrix 7.1 sound for stereo sources like itunes and vidoes without ac3 or dts tracks.

Or...did i just waste extra $, from what ive read on here many people have had to uninstall this feature because of freezing issues. Please enlighten me.

Okay, this morning the volume, play/pause, eject, etc. buttons stopped lighting up. I can guess where they are and they still work and the on-screen overlay still shows up, but there is no lighting for the touch buttons above the keyboard (it's completely dark). I tried reinstalling the Dell Quickset but it said that the one I downloaded from the Dell website was older than the one currently installed... Any suggestions?

Hmm...I'd call Dell. If you're feeling adventurous, you could open it up. Probably the cable just went out.

The lighting of those keys are not controlled by any software means.

EDIT: To get QuickSet to install (for whatever reason), uninstall the old one. Then install the new one. :)

Does it make any difference that my keyboard lighting/trackpad lighting still works?

I feel like the audio/wireless/eject buttons went out when I launched the game, I don't know if that has anything to do with anything.

The keyboard lighting/trackpad are on a different light system, I'm fairly sure. The lighting on the keyboard/trackpad can be set with QuickSet: not so with the media key lighting.

Hmmm...just a fluke, then? Maybe try taking the battery out, letting it sit for 15 minutes, and then coming back to it. :)

K so I fixed my issue. I didnt even have to take it apart. I unplugged the battery for a few minutes (I was actually just cleaning the laptop off) and when I turned the computer back on the lights lit up. Weird.

edit: I need to learn how to type...

I have the strangest problem and it "seems" to have something to do with the webcam login via my monitor. Sometimes when I boot from hibernation and log in using the webcam facial recognition, I will get to my desktop and a couple seconds later the system goes into standby. I hit the power button again and log in fine and everything is normal.

I have low hopes that anyone else has run into this issue as I have read almost all of both of the owners threads.

Does the Studio XPS 1645 come standard with embedded Bluetooth or do I have to add it? When you go to configure bluetooth options theres a $20 USB module...I only want bluetooth if it's embedded, is it standard? If so why would you need the usb module? Thanks.

Depends on which link you click on, but it is an option and it is embedded. Sometimes it is part of a deal, but I don't understand why you wouldn't see it while configuring.

You can buy yourself and install too if you want.

Im configuring a Studio XPS for $1599 Canadian (the best model you can get on the site currently):

    CPU: Intel Core i7-720QM
    RAM: 8GB DDR3-1333MHz
    GPU: Mobility Radeon HD5730
    HDD: 500GB 7200RPM
    DIS: 1920x1080 FHD WLED 15.6"
    ROM: Blu-Ray Read Combo

and in the customizer it says "Bluetooth Options" with an available selection of "DW 370 (USB module)"

So im just wondering if it IS embedded, why would you need a usb dongle? I need to tether to my iphone for 3G internet when I'm travelling and I would prefer to do it wirelessly instead of using the USB cable. Thanks.

Correct. It is a module. Don't know why it says USB. And it should be this.........

    From American Site:

    Dell Wireless 370 Bluetooth Module (2.1+EDR) [$20.00 or $1.00/month

with the studio 15 on the canadian site it shows the bluetooth internal edr 2.1 or whatever but on the studio xps it says usb module and it doesnt even seem like you can configure all the sxps 16 models with BT, only the most expensive one. in the spec sheet it says "bluetooth mini 2.1 internal card standard" which must be a hoax. I called into dell canada and spoke to a sales rep and he said the bluetooth is an add-on you HAVE to pay extra for and he said it is internal and wasnt sure why it said usb module on the website....man i hate that website the more I use it.

Just ordered this exact configuration (Ultimate with 1080p upgrade) from Dell Canada. In fact, the phone sales guy sold it to me for CAD$1,549. That's as far as I could manage to negotiate. I sure hope it's worth it!

Yes, they told me 10 business days.

It looks like you just ordered one too.

I was told by the sales guy that the system is price-guaranteed for 30 days. If the same configuration comes up at a lower price within 30 days, he said he would refund the difference. Did they tell you that too?

Nope, i just forwarded my shopping cart to my sales rep...i originally had an order placed on the 20th, luckily i was able to change it today to include the 5730. I was supposed to recieve my original order by June 07 but due to the changes I made today the rep said it would be pushed back about another week.

    Hi all,
I'm awaiting for my replacement order as well.
    Specs in my signature.

    Ordered 05/24
    Shipped 05/28
EDA unknown because Walsh Western shipment tracking page gives me an error while I'm trying to check date.

Well got fed up with the alienware issues and returned it and got a 1645 with the following specs:

    i7 720QM
    15.6 LED FHD+
    4GB RAM 1333MHz
    ATI 5730
    500GB 7200RPM
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit

Im a little upset Im going to buy into the whole 16:9 non-sense but I needed a laptop that works and it was the best offer in my new price range. Oh and on the remote subject Im hoping the one in my dell will work as well as it did in the m17x and my vostro. Currently in production.
