First day on the internet?
-
Umm, yeah, nice multi-post there. Anyway, there are videos with the XPS using the 4670 ATI card, which is what affects gaming. Dude.
-
I am pretty sure the 1640 uses a different motherboard, it's ram is 1067MHz not 1333MHz (like the 1645) and not to mention the i7. So I agree, that I would like to see some videos on the 1645. My order has been delayed again, so I wouldn't mind seeing a video review since I have all the time in the world according to Dell.
-
Yeah Nehalem-based processors require a radically different chipset, mainly it gets rid of the FSB.
Did anyone notice there is a new BIOS update for the 1645, A02? Says it fixes "sound quality". I had no idea BIOS had anything to do with audio. -
I'm not surprised there isn't much information about the 1645. After all, the first wave of 1645 appeared 2-1 weeks ago. Some people that order at beginning of October and the very last week of september have yet to see theirs. Don't rush the internet, rush dell lol.
-
Sorry for the multipost... big lag...
I have seen the video with 4670 1Go but it's not the only component affecting games... I'm sure that on optimised games or application using Quad-core there is a big difference. At least 15-20 fps in GTA4 I (full Quad-core optimised) think... but it's ok I will wait for the delivery ... -
No, I agree with you hifiger. The 1645 is not the same as the 1640. For some CPU bound games it could make a pretty big difference (Flight Sim X, for example... needs the best CPU you can throw at it). I'd like to see a review as well and thankfully a few people in this thread have already offered.
-
come on dude, its just a job to these people. when i was a kid i worked in a supermarket, doesnt mean i cared about vegetables, or knew what a starfruit was.
-
I just got the new 1645, i7 820 core, ATI 4670 card, 6gb ram and I noticed a few people have posted about the frame rate issues when gaming.
I've been trying crysis and I get 50fps which then drops back to 10fps, then back to 50 etc.
I've installed
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx
that driver and it doesn't seem to help.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
-
I know that Crysis is a CPU intensive game, could it be possible the i7 Turbo boost is causing havoc with it, after all the game it is not optimized for a quad processor? Just i thought

Did the same multi post my self. thats how i fixed mine. Just sayin.... -
you can use this to install the latest desktop drivers from ATI instead of the notebook ones, which are better i believe
http://www.driverheaven.net/modtool.php -
Hi Guys I figured out question 2 and I will go for the 256GB ssd from samsung
... but question 1 is important for me... Anyone ???
-
No idea, how do I turn that off to try and see? Up for trying anything atm -
Yeah when I disable the ATI PowerSaver I don't get framerate drops, note that disabling this actually locks the GPU at a slower clock-rate. I also don't get framerate drops if I disable the laptop display and play on an external monitor. Honestly it seems power-related to me, if I do something to reduce the total power consumption of the laptop the framerate stays steady. I'm not running on battery of course. -
This stopped the drops but still only getting 30ish fps
I also used the desktop drivers rather than notebook which helped too. Might contact ATI later and see if they have any other suggestions.
Thanks for the help guys

Hi all, I just received my 1645 a couple days ago (ordered 10/25, recieved on 11/18) and I thought I'd use this topic to make my first post. I too noticed the color issues on my RGBLED screen and after a lot of playing around, I found that the best way to resolve it was to just dial down the saturation in CCC to 75%. Its an absolutely stunning display, better than my mom's MacBook Pro 17" IMO. I do do some recreational photo work so I got this screen more to be future proof. As time goes on I think more and more displays will be high gamut, and at some point microsoft will implement High Color color management, ( http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistaappearance/thread/e59e4056-c328-45b3-9a2f-263b5ae698d8/) its explained in the first answer after the poster's question.

First question guys. Doing a full reinstall of win 7 (works? Macaffee? face recognition security software? who needs this rubbish!), and its the first time i have had a dell or win 7 machine.
What are the 2 extra partitions on the disk already (Recovery and OEM) ? can i safely delete Recovery and add it to the rest of the disk?
edit : too impatient to wait for a reply, guess i'll find out
-
To those of you who received your machine after over a month of waiting, would you say the wait was worth it?
<-- looking for an affirmation
-
And how much was this, if I may ask?Last edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015

So i can still modify my order but confused if i keep the RGBLED order or downgrade it to WLED 1080p. I don't do any photography or editing or anything special basically on internet and some gaming. Will notice much lower quality if I down grade? like less crisp and clear? Is it really a problem with the RGBLED getting the correct color( hassle)? I just want out of the box working system. Plz advice.
-
It really isn't a hassle. A few clicks into Catalyst Control Center (where you control the ATI 4670 GPU settings) you can set the color saturation to whatever you want. Mine looks perfect at 75%. If you game you'll probably have to go in there at some point anyway. I have an older SONY trinitron 1600x1200 CRT that I used to think had the best colors I had seen, but the RGBLED LCD is better. Its quite accurate and well worth it IMO.
-
Hi RyGuyer My name is Carlos I was reading some of the threads and would like like to know how much did you pay for yor laptop. I am basically getting the same system you have. i see you order your on 10/25. I would like to get an idea of much to pay or not to pay. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone confirm if the 1645 comes with an active Infrared Port? Does it include the Dell Travel Remote by default?
-
I paid $2705 after 7% EPP discount.
-
Anybody know what brand of ram Dell is using in the 1645 6GB configuration?
-
Nice, clean windows install all sorted, drivers sorted, dell dock back.
Tried out a few games. World In Conflict benchmark gives me 24avg fps in 1280x768 with "high" settings.
now just gotta install fedora and we're set! -
It's samsung
-
No, to the remote. I think it has IR but I'm not 100% sure.
Dell uses several different memory brands (not that it really matters since most brands come from the same source, ie. Micron, Hynix, Samsung, Elpida). -
Relaxed2000: RGB screen is actually pretty decent in reducing glare. Not perfect, but it isn't glossy enough where strong light makes it unusable.
I think there is an IR port...should be on the front, below the stickers.
Crysis FPS issue:
Disable Turbo Boost with Real Temp and see if it goes away.
Windows 7 DVD came in! My Dell upgrade didn't work yet anyways (service tag not recognized), so I just went to my school software store and got 7 Professionl for $50. I mean, it's expected for how much I pay in tuition, LOL.
Don't have a Soundblaster, so I can't tell ya about the Windows.wav sound thing.
BTW, people who ordered in September HAVE gotten their laptops....like me, lol. Was the wait worth it? Heck yes, even if just to see this:
-
ikjadoon, can you please resize that image to under 800 in width, please? Makes going back and reading others posts on this page difficult the way you have it now.
(my preferences are set to have as many posts per page as possible so your image distorts 50ish posts).
Thanks. -
Crapola, sorry! I completely forgot about that. It's better now.

Thanks, man. Appreciated.

PowerPlay can be either optimized for maximizing battery or performance. It senses whether there is 3D requirement from the running application or not. The drop in frame rate is a result of a wrong conclusion that there is no need for the 3D performance so it switches to 2D.
Here is a couple of things that people report them:
1. click on the battery on the bottom right side, click more power options, click change plan settings, change advanced power settings, select ATI Graphics power settings and adjust to maximize performance.
2. open the catalyst driver search for OpenGL settings and select Trible buffering.
Also make sure you installed DirectX
Please report your results. -
There is an infra red port, but not the remote
-
Just installed Windows 7, very easy process. Took about 30 minutes from inserting the CD to first boot. Very smooth!
And, interestingly, the fan has yet to spin up even though I'm doing my usual browsing.
Off to install drivers.
~Ibrahim~ -
You can get three and half hours or more surfing the internet on a single charge if you enable the Dell extended battery life
-
Just a lil FYI for everyone:
The Matsh!ta [stupid vBulletin settings] (Panasonic) Blu-Ray drive (BD-RE UJ-235-A) sucks the big one. It has RipLock, and there aren't any progs out that support it to remove the lock. My guess is that ANY of the 1645 offerings that are Matsh!ta all have RipLock.
Does anyone know of a replacement slot-load drive that wouldn't have RipLock? -
And everything has installed and is working great: Bluetooth, IDT Sound, ATI, etc.
A happy customer.
~Ibrahim~ -
Under Memory mine says 1.30, yours says 2.21. We both have 4gb of memory. Is there something wrong with mine?
-
Nothing wrong with yours or his. He just got more applications running that uses more ram than whatever you are using. This part of the taskmanager is suppose to reflect the load on the CPU and your RAM not your total (which it kind of do but not directly)
-
I flashed my bios, updated drivers, restored to manufacturer's settings, and my computer still freezes. I've been talking to Dell tech support. The system will just stop and display the last thing I was doing. This can happen once in a day or as many as four times in day.
Is anyone having a similar problems? -
A simlar thing happend to me a few times the first day I got my system. It was always while running IE8 (protected mode). Then I must have changed some setting or disabled something while playing around because it hasn't happened again (knock on wood) and I'm still running IE8 (protected mode). There may have been some conflict somewhere that I inadvertantly fixed.
-
Are i7 CPUs supported by RMClock?
-
Do not think RMClock supports i7 mobile.
I had a random BSOD one day, but I think it was just a glitch with Vista because it spewed about 7 errors right before it happened. Nothing with 7 yet, though.
Yeah, I'm fairly certain I was just running OCCT to check some temperatures.
I'm free for Thanksgiving break. Anyone need any tests run? I won't be able to run any games (don't have any here), but for everything else I'm open.
~Ibrahim~ -
Ibrahim,
Not everyone has received their laptops who ordered in September. Mine just got delayed for yet another week according to the new EDD they gave me yesterday. So I canceled yesterday, went to Best Buy, and grabbed the Envy 15...couldn't be happier. I don't know if I'm happier that I got the new laptop or that I was able to tell off Dell, not give them any money, AND still get an awesome laptop.
I also took advantage of the Windows 7 pro deal with my university...I just got it today and it'll be on my desktop tonight.
I'm glad MS did this promo...not only do we make out with a great deal, but it will probably help MS in the future since it's targeting the people who will spread the experiences with W7 a lot better than MS could try and promote themselves. win-win
-
I am fighting with myself, deciding between the 1645, 1557, Envy 15, m15x and the kobalt g860.
Realistically, all of these systems have the specs I need to do everything I need (bar the 1557, which may suffer due to its GPU for games such as Diablo3/SC2 upcoming).
What I want to know is, is 32nm processors around the corner? Is it better to wait it out? -
It's always best to wait (if you can)...things are always getting better hardware-wise. In your case, 2010 is what you'll be waiting for...
-
Can you run Furmark? It stress CPU and GPU
-
I have done it before and posted earlier
