Hi, my order got cancelled last week. In the new order I can see a different part number for the Bluray drive
from "313-7056 BLURAY COMBO,INSP " to "313-8729 4X BLURAY DRIVE". The guy at online support assured me it was a CD/DVD burner. Can anyone confirm this?
Thanks!

In that picture you posted, it looks like the vents on your i7 are MORE restrictive than in previous versions. See in this link the vents are open on the bottom and your's are closed? Do you have better pictures? What are your thoughts?

How does the LED screen compare to the RGB LED for brightness?
What does setting Windows power mode to "power saver" do to the processor speed? CPU-Z should tell you the processor speed. -
The internal cooling has improved compared to the 1640. For starters, the NB is gone. Secondly, the layout is quite different and one of the biggest changes is that the SB has its own heatsink now that is linked to the main system heat pipe. The 1645 should no longer have overheating track pad/front palm rest issues that the 1640 suffers from. -
technically it was run at 720p...the default is 1024 iirc
-
I was referring to how the LCD obstructs the exhaust vent when it is in the open position.
-
Looks the same to me but its difficult to tell based on that picture. My reply wasn't to you, it was a comment on the picture he posted. -
If you put the pics side by side you can really see the difference. I would like to see some more pics with the screen open.
Here is the 1645.

Here is the 1640.

See how the vent on the 1640 goes almost all the way to the rubber foot? -
Isn't the other thread closed?
-
So I got mine today and have already been messing with it. Its fast but the first thing I did was turn off user account control and enabled advanced performance on the disk. Enabling advanced disk performance increases speed a ton...
-
Are there any pictures of the notebook fully assembled?
-
Can any owners take a picture of the vents on the back of the laptop with the screen opened AND closed please?
Thanks! -
I dont have my digital camera with me now. I literally pulled the computer out of the box and left the house... had to go to school (college). But the LCD does cover the vent on the back slightly. I am now trying to decide whether I need to go through the trouble of installing vista business (I run a business and the backup software is great) or just install seven cause it came in the box.

I ordered September 28th and I still do not have mine -.-
Original EDD was October 28th
I was delayed to November 6th and then to the 10th
They Canceled the order on the 4th of November, reordered, and "expedited" my order...
My EDD is December 1st with next day shipping. -
can someone take a picture using the 2.0 built-in webcam? i want see the quality
and
is the black part of the bottom panel a air vent holes?
http://www.anandtech.com/GalleryImage.aspx?id=6200 -
yeah but thats the 1640 and people are trying to figure out if the cooling has been adjusted in any way to allow better exhaust
-
what day did they cancel your order finally? im still waiting on mine and its supposed to ship tomorrow and arrive on the 13th if you're crazy enough to believe the EDD... I've been trying to get it pushed through for a week now.
-
Yes the bottom has a kind of 'mesh' to draw air in.
-
People. Can we please keep this thread a little limited in the ship dates thing?
To discuss about that topic, please head to this thread (thanks Cin') http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=430672 -
INteresting. The heatsinks that are on top of the CPU and GPU look much bigger on the 1645 than they do on the 1640. Maybe that's why things are running cooler. I'm still not sure why they would go with the 4 vents instead of the 5 (that's what it looks like...but I can't really tell from the 1645 picture). It also looks like they moved some of the wireless cards around and extended the CPU's heatsink to cover the southbridge under the trackpad. Interesting.
-
Isn't this where the air comes out?
...Nevermind I see you are talking about the bottom panel, I thought it was about the differences in the rear exit area where the 1640 seems to have a bigger area to blow the air out than the 1645. -
Yeah it does appear that way. We'll have to see if the temperatures are affected by this or not. -
In the pics of the 1640 it appears that plastic piece with the rubber foot on it is removeable. I wonder if this was done intentionally to address a heat concern? If not maybe it can be a future "mod" if anyone starts having heat issues on the 1645s.

They canceled the order on the night of the 3rd. November 4th is when Dell called me to reorder.
I will continue any postings about the order date nightmare here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=430672 -
Interesting to pass the benchmark at 1024x768 to conpare with notebookcheck results...
-
313-8729 4X BLURAY DRIVE is a blu-ray burner
-
Just wondering the guys that canceled to go with hp which model was it? Dv8t? I found this and its the i7 with blue ray and stuff for $999. http://bfads.net/
-
1645 has 5 vents, not 4... if referring to the ones on the backside of the screen, which covers 1 vent..making only 4 visible when the screen is up -
I just tried the coupon code which was working earlier and now it says it is invalid. Don't get me wrong, the XPS 16 is way way nicer, but I would rather save $1100 dollars and get the HP. I'm still mulling it over.
-
That's good to hear that they went with the 5 vents. From the pic of the 1645, the vents OR the rubber post is positioned differently. The vent is further from the rubber pad, so I figured the extra space was due to Dell slapping on the older 4 vent piece.
Could someone take a picture of the ventilation porst on the back of your 1645 (with the screen open on of it closed)? Much appreciated! -
The rubber foot is clearly in the same position if you look at how it lines up with the seam by the hinge. We really need to see a better pic because it looks like the vent is smaller.
-
You get what you pay for, just remember that. HP's are good if you are on an extreme budget and don't know any better. The SXPS 16 is built much nicer and the display alone is worth the price of entry. I had the DV7, SXPS 16, Asus G51 and tomorrow the Sager 8690 arrives. Of them all (excluding the Sager since I haven't seen it) the SXPS 16 had the best display by FAR. Looks wise the 8690 reminds me of the SXPS 16 (kinda like a bigger beefier version) so that's why I got it. If Dell had a gaming version of the SXPS design (I hate AW) with an MXM 3.0b slot and GTX 280m, I'd have bought it right away. -
Well guys my order was placed on 10/09 it was then canceled on 10/13 for some reason. Then the new order on 10/13 had an edd of 11/16. I called and tried to get them to change the wifi card but like some they said its ok. Well its canceled today so I called in and they told me they would take $100 off but I told them no and canceled. I still made about $135 because my deal came with a dell mini10 for $100 which I sold for $250. The xps16 I order had the i7 820, white with white leather, blue ray burner, creative sound card and ms office student. I got it for $2200 which was a pretty good price. I guess no xps16 for me for now but my envy13 did came last week and I'm very happy with that one so I might get the envy15 instead.

I ordered last Monday (11/2) and received my laptop today, very impressed with the ordering speed. Already formatted and installed Windows 7 Ultimate, can't wait to put it through its paces.
-
I'm smelling a little something here...
-
Anyone have any thoughts as to how worthwhile it is to get a Zalman NC2000 and arctic silver for the 1645?
Does the NC2000 (or any cooler for that matter) lose some value as a result of the laptop being raised with the larger battery? -
Yeah hard to believe, I know. But it was in build for 3-4 days, then was in boxing before last weekend. Shipped yesterday, and I had the free next-day shipping.
-
Impressive...I ordered Friday...so hopefully I can get as lucky as you got...
enjoy it!!! -
How the hell......? That's total BS because mines been in the "build" stage for almost 45 days (according to Dell). And I still have 2 more weeks until my EDD. I'm not saying you're full of BS, I'm saying the situation is jacked up. aahh Honestly, I'd prefer it if you were full of it, lol, I wouldn't feel so jerked around.
-
Yeah I know, not trying to sound like a jerk or anything. But for people who've been holding out on ordering because of all the issues, the new orders are going right through the process.
-
I wonder if another part which you did not order is now backordered.
Congrats on winning what feels like a lottery now. lol -
You mind saying what parts you had ordered on your laptop?
Dell rep called me today out of the blue to state my machine was in the build process (which it has been since at least 10/20). He stated new orders being filled before mine were most likely because of part available. thanks..
Ordered 10/14 - Dell Reordered 10/29 -EDD (both orders) 11-19
i720, RGB screen, 500GB HD, 4GB RAM, Bluetooth.. -
When dell is doing it right they ship pretty fast. I order from them many times before and it takes about 7 business day till it is shipped.
