Well the rep gave me a quote and I asked her if I could purchase it the next day as I didnt have the funds avaiable, she said yes. Then I went to purchase and they said the quote was unavaliable and couldnt seee why bacause there was no deal offered that gave the my original specs for the price she quoted.

I said F**k that I have a wirttien quote here saying its avaliable thats false advertising. After 3 days of hassle and a nice manager. He said that he would not only give me the same price but give me a free upgrade of my choice.

Original system was an i7-620 for $1017 but I wanted to i7-720 (god knows why reading the other threads I should of kept the proccessor and chosen the screen) so he upgraded the proccessor for $1099 and a 9 cell battery :)

Any news on when we are going to get a fix so that we can sync with iTunes? I plugged a new iPhone into the laptop today and the system wouldn't even recognize the iPhone...

I would have thought they would have fixed this already...

I struggled with this for many days. Apparently it's a bios issue with the PM55 chipsets.

Anyway, I installed it like usual but ran it in vista compatibility mode (right click itunes.exe, properties, compatibility). See if that works for you. I also have bonjour service uninstalled.

Thanks for telling us. I will be surprised if it addresses the throttling.

    1.Enhance system stability.
    2.Support new graphic card.

Pretty open statement to say it enhances system stability and I'm unaware of any new graphic card currently offered.

Off to work so no time to install. I will follow your experiences.

I am thinking of using Arctic Cooling MX-3. It should be good, right ?

No one has actually installed it, though, and reported back if it fixes throttling or iPod issues.
Maybe that would be you! :)

Sorry about that :). I missed the previous post.

I already installed it and quickly tried a single test with NFS Undercover. I did not manage to reproduce the throttling issue. The game did not run well at max settings, but the uncleweb tool did not show a problem. May be it is fixed, but I dont have the time now to go deeper into this as I am now at work :).

Couldn't the throttling issue be classified a stability issue? I really haven't heard that the 1645 is unstable, per se...

I have a 1645 coming, so it would be good timing if they fixed it!

Honestly, I wouldn't go for the xps, since I have one already. Before I got mine I had been using HP dv6500. It had great design, but quite a lot of heat issues.

So, I told to myself, no more HPs, I like the Dells more. So here I am with my 1645 and already regret I didn't get HP Envy 15.

Reading through the forums, seems that this time HP did better than Dell, quite better. But this is how I think only.

Fine, I'll make a video, but it'll be when I go back home which may be in two weeks-ish. :(

Voiding the warranty: frankly, not really. The technician who replaced the motherboard should have done it, anyways. I'm making up for his mistake. Just don't break anything while you're in there. ;)

MX-3: should be fine. Anything name-brandish will be fine. A friend of mine bought some diamond paste a few days ago and put it on his desktop with spectacular results Q6600: loading in the, get this, high40's/low50's. But he also bought a $100 cooler, so, lol...

    Respectfully disagree with you sir.

But every post on here is an opinion so what the heck.

Personally, you can't generalize dell like that, because from what my brother has (the i5, WLED, 1647) it runs out of the box with no issues.

Perhaps you are right. But I still believe that Dell did something really wrong with the 1645 exact model. That is why, may be Envy 15 would be the better choice.

I have just loaded A06 on my 1645 with RGBLED screen.
My test for throttling is a sumple lap of racedriver GRID, with the 90w power supply, the screen updates slow towards the end of the 1st lap making play unbearable.

However with a 130w poersupply that I obtained off EBAY, the game runs fairly smooth all the way through. I say fairly as there seems to be a slight slow down but the game is definately playable.

I felt I had to get the 130w supply as the std 90w supply would almost burn your hands after a fairly light gaming session.

Been following both threads (1645/1647 and Envy 15). Isn't it true that the i7-based Envy 15's, run super slow (933Mhz) when on battery? Whereas the 1645's can run Throttlestop to cure the throttling, I didn't think there was anything you could do to stop the extreme underclocking on battery on the Envy 15.

Hi Guys, I have a question regarding the battery life.

I received my laptop last week and my config is: i7-720, 6g DDR3, 500g, RGB screen, 9 cell battery.

My battery will only last about 1h45 minutes in the balanced model, with 50% of screen brightness, wifi off, keyboard backlit off. I only watched some HD movies for about 8 minutes, and installed couple softwares, and played a little bit of football manager 2010...Is this normal?!?!

When I play games such as Mass Effect 2 or Residential Evil 5, the battery lasts for only about 1 hour...

How long does your battery last?

    Dell's Update:

    Update 2/4/10
Bill_B from dell has finally come and answered some of the lingering questions. After 3 months of near no communications and conflicting reports, it would seem dell is finally coming out. Here are some of the more relevant posts to the issue.

    Quote:
The system should throttle no more with the next BIOS update in conjunction with a 130W ac adapter. Mobo will be fine with 130W adapter, but you will need both the BIOS and a new adapter. How you get that adapter is one of the questions I cannot answer just yet. Working on it.
    ....
OK. I can't say how yet because I don't know all the details, but customers will have a path to get replacement 130W adapters. I can say that we will be replacing them for NBR customers proactively. Don't flood my PM box, please! Brad or Todd will take that up with you guys tomorrow.

As far as new system orders yet to ship, more to come.
Seems like dell now agree with us, and the adapter will be the proper fix. Looks as well like 90w adapter may be replaced with a higher wattage as well. ETA is still unclear at this point in time, but hopefully bill will stay in contact and know more after a few meetings time.

    @Tenax
I appreciate your info. Excuse my ignorance, but what is an NBR customer? I suppose we will have more information tonight after the conference call. It is nice to see Dell making a move in the right direction. Between the build/shipping delays and now the throttling issue, this laptop has been a difficult one to get right. However, in the end, it looks like we (those who purchased and kept the XPS 1645) will have the high end laptop we wanted and paid for.

I just had the third freeze up in a couple weeks when streaming Pandora radio. It always happens when a song finishes. The computer is still on, the screen is on, but it is totally unresponsive. I had to do a force shut down. I haven't downloaded the Beta Flash Player yet, could this be a possible fix?

On a related note, I'd like to undervolt it to try and save on battery time, but haven't had much luck finding a guide to undervolting the i7. Is it much different than doing the same for the C2D?

I don't have any links for you but I've heard that the i7 systems don't expose any ability to set voltages which is why we won't get tools for that purpose (unless someone discovers them in spite of Intel's efforts to hide them).
